This match clearly demonstrated why United’s players disliked Rangnick. Because he requires his teams to run and press like mad dog maniacs all game long. Something United’s players haven’t been bothered to do for years under successive managers. Mad energy from the Austrians, massive respect to them, and a huge shoutout to the fans in the stadium. The atmosphere was electric.

Kante playing so godly when he plays for the 5th best team in saudi and nobody mentioning the unbearable heat that makes it SO MUCH harder! Kante got into the french squad ahead of real madrid midfielders european champions even after playing in saudi just underlines the quality of the league. And by that regard how much ronaldos goals are really worth.
It's funny how people sound contradictory in the comments. On one side, there are those who say that France should have done better since it is "only Austria" (suggesting that Austria is a weak team), and on the other, there are those who say that Austria played very well (even better than France for some). Personally I don't think Austria played better than France, they were clearly dominated and ended up conceding a goal because of the pressure. But on the other hand, claiming that it's a bad team is quite ironic, because I think that if it had been another team than France, Austria would have won the match, not because the Austrians played well, on the contrary, I think they are in rather pain, but because the Austrians are much too aggressive. It's good to be a little aggressive in a match, but this is ridiculous.
Because of them and the mistakes they made every 2 minutes, neither team was able to play their game and all the actions ended up being stupidly interrupted.
I understand better why they won their last 7 games, no team is crazy enough to expose their players to injuries for simple matches. When we see the state of Griezmann and Mbappé, I understand them.

FYI-He only did that because France were trying to sub on two players. Austria played a quick throw in to prevent France from substituting and they were down to 10 players with Mbappe off. He forced the game to stop to get them level on players again. It was very smart of him with only a few minutes left in the match.

Did you not read my previous comment? France were only playing with 10 players going into the 90th minute of the match. You delay the match and take the yellow in that situation every day of the week. Securing the 3 points in that moment is much more important than a possible yellow card accumulation ban.

i'd say france were not amazing offensively but they did defend well and made it hard for austria to create something, to get to the danger zone even. thats probably more important than having a flashy offensive which you fall in love with. im a bit dissapointed with austria. they should have tried to bring more structure into their attack. but i imagine france did have a say in that.

Boring punditry to sit there and say France looked better than England, they both looked underwhelming when considered as two teams potentially in the mix to win the competition. France looked offensively better than England but defensively more vulnerable. They conceded more big chances than England did, had less possession & converted less of their own big chances.
France are more accomplished & have a better squad on paper, they are excused because they will "grow" into the tournament, England aren't given the same pass. Maybe that's fair because they haven't done it as often.
Both teams came away with 3 points, England in particular defended very well against Serbia reducing them to 0 big chances & 0.18 xG while converting their chances, but it was by no means a demolition, they are top of the group.
We all need to sit & have a talk to keep it interesting but the narrative is boring now, too much negativity towards England & not enough directed at other nations under-performing. Or maybe for once just see it how it is & acknowledge the quality of some of the smaller nations that are far better than the media give them credit for, both Austria & Serbia are good teams that played well vs higher quality opposition and that should be credited, maybe cover some of the nations that have played extremely well like Romania or Slovakia did yesterday.

Best Austrian side I've ever seen. Not on the level of the big ones, but still. Would have deserved an equaliser at some point, but then again, a win for France was deserved despite lack of efficiency. 1:0 is a good result!
Both teams produced underwhelming performances by their standards in their respective opening games of the EUROs, but I still think that France are slight favorites to win the EUROs especially since they have something in their step that will make them improve after this game. I honestly like the way that Austria was set up under Ralf Rangnick because they made it a 50-50 game and they looked very good with and without the ball. Even though their only goal of the game was an own goal and could’ve been better from an attacking perspective, France defended very well and made sure that their defense wasn’t going to be broken down very easily and they also wanted to attack on the front foot whenever they won the ball back.
Didier Deschamps will be happy with the win even though he knows that they could’ve fared better and if they win their next game against the Netherlands, they secure automatic qualification for the RD of 16 and will easily top their group. It was a difficult game for France and overall they had to work for the 3 points while keeping a clean sheet and it was the same thing for England in their game yesterday because as poor as they were, yes they could’ve played better to be honest and I wasn’t convinced with their performance, but at the end of the day you have to win the game. In major tournaments, it’s not always about winning 4-0 or 5-0 by playing attractive football even if it’s ugly you have to work for the win and ground out results that’s what France and England did and that’s what you expect from a team who’s chasing after a title despite how underwhelming they were in contrast to Spain and Germany who won their games by a convincing margin.

Because England parked the bus and struggled heavily against a weaker team. France kept the play up and open, had many chances to score again, and Austria came in hot with a great squad. HOW the games went was incredibly different.

a healthy Giroud is much better than an Mbappe that can't go in for headers because of course he will be likely to bump his nose / will need to be putting his face at risk. The doctors will tell him he absolutely needs to give it time. I would sit Mbappe next game, then maybe play him for a first half in game 3 if his breathing is fully healthy and no swelling. Absolutely the best player in the world SHOULD NOT BE RISKING HIS NOSE AND HEALTH just to play the next game, when France is very likely to get passed the group stage with or without him playing the next game.
