Before we have all these Korean Idols, and long before the likes of Charice Pempengco, it was Lea who made a historic win of first Tony Trophy for the region of Asia during the times when there's bigotry for Asians posed by racism in London and America. She conquered the biggest theater awards in both regions which made her a theater legend in her early twenties. Lea's world class talent has always been integral in transforming the Asian representation in global platforms, her phenomenal interpretation as Kim in Miss Saigon and her landing the role of Eponine in Les Miserables resulted to a tilt of perspective that there are characters who could be empowered, intelligent, and beautiful; and they doesn't necessarily always have to be caucasian, that Asians and other people of colors could be beautiful too, or sexy, or badass. And so Salonga went on breaking the Hollywood to give life to more beautiful characters like in Disney's Aladdin as Princess Jasmine and chinese warrior as Fa Mulan. Was hailed as one of the most beautiful people in the world by People's magazine along with other Hollywood's superstars, Lea Salonga, that petite asian chic is among the most beautiful people alongside Movie Superstar Julia Roberts, Music Superstars Whitney Houston & Queen of Pop Madonna, and Supermodel Naomi Campbell. And honestly today she is the only Filipino Artist who could have sold out London, Australia, Asia, North America and US tour bearing her very name as Lea Salonga the Disney and Broadway Legend, so since then and even today that there still is lack of representation of Filipinos in the world stage of talents, Lea Salonga is still our International star for 45 years and counting.*
She sang the Asian Games theme song in Qatar in early 2000s. She's known for it as an excellent interpreter of sporting event song
I would also consider Charice Pempengco being the second Filipino artist to represent in the world stage as well.
I came here to understand the lyrics after watching the Openin Ceremony. Kuddos to the artists that sung during the opening ceremony but I hardly understood some of the lyrics. Lea's pronounciation and diction are so clear that I no longer need any subtitle or lyrics on the screen.
