  • In the Philippines, dance is an important cultural element which makes the country's culture alive and evolving. The Philippines is particularly rich in dance heritage both indigenous and adapted since time in memorial from the cultures of their neighboring Southeast Asian countries as well as the period of Spanish rule.
The video shows the performance of four consecutive dances beginning with Bumajah which is a festival dance performed by the Ifugao people who live in the famous Banaue Rice Terraces. The second dance is Pansak, a skill dance performed by the Yankan Muslim group in Mindanao. The third, Jota Manilena, is the version of the Spanish Jota which originated in Manila. This was closed with Tinikling which is probably the most famous dance in the Philippines, it involves people beating, tapping and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with the dancers who step over and between the poles.
This was the performance of the Kahayag Philippine Performing Group(Kahayag Dance Company), the official representative of the Republic of the Philippines, during the ASEAN Plus Three Joint Cultural Performances 2012 in Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Kingdom of Cambodia.
