Nice tutorial! Played as a centre back for several years now and there is a lot of good advice here. However, sometimes it can be smarter to stay close to the pacy attacker, as you can rip the ball off him/her before they are able to challenge you at speed. Depends on the security the other defenders provide you, but can be very effective as you don't allow the fast players to use their strengths.
That is also true. I realy depends on the situation. I have recently switched to a more defensive role in five a side. Here they say don't stick to the attacker as he can turn and you're left vulnerable. However, sometimes it's better to jostle, intercept and poke the pass away from the attacking player who's about to receive the ball. 👍🏾
Also, shouldn’t your defensive line be hustling back to cover? If you just “run to the goal” won’t the attacker just play the ball inside? This tip surely feels off.
This comment is important too watchers who haven't already watched the video: 1. Don't get too close 2.run towards goal if u can't tackle 3.Force the attacker to go one way 4. " show them who's boss" 5. Play safe
Samer Alhamdan be big too, simple solution. Train and become physically strong too or maybe just kicked ur ass kicked if u dont want to go to the gym (not being rude lol)
It's not a simple solution, coming from a physically strong, built and tall cb. Even for strong defenders it can be hard to win the ball off the attacker. Look at Lukaku, strongest forward in the Premier League and is 9/10 times going to out muscle an opponent. Plus, adding on size lowers your pace, agility and mobility in some cases.
If you're meaning tactically defend against stronger forwards. Boateng did an article on how he defends against top opposition and stronger attackers. If you mean physically defend against them, do strength training for important lifts/motions you will use during matches, don't look to add size as it can become a hindrance and can make your acceleration slower (which isn't the best as a defender)
We have just played last weekend against team with a very fast striker. In the first half he was a nightmare. We didn't know how to manage him. In the second one we figured it out. One defender stayed closed to him body to body to make it difficult for him to have a good first touch and just let him know "you won't enjoy this game anymore". The second defender was 2-3 meters behind them so if he dribbled the first one defender and starting to run away, the second one got him. He wasn't a threat anymore. Yes there were other attacking players but they didn't that good so we defended them more easily.
I tried this last year where u run back to the goal never do this everyone yelled at me because they thought I got scared of the guy and then the guy dribbled in I went back to challenge and he passed the ball right through everyone
Really I think it's a good tactic don'trun directly to the goal just the path where he can get a goal scoring opportunity. It's good because you block the attacker that has a highest goal scoring opportunity. After you cover the initial danger the whole of your defense should be back by then.
Yes there is an attacker in the opposite team that always exposes me and dribbles like Messi and as fast as Usain bolt so if my team is matching his team it's pretty much the whole defensive line's nightmare
Tip 2 is going to cost you goals if the attacker is good on both feet but most attackers aren’t. If your an attacker and good with both feet you will get so many more goals and assists so you shouldn’t neglect your weak foot like most other people do.
@@sonnyfox8407 I was small before I had my sudden growth spurt. Try to jump before the attacker and place your elbow on his shoulder when you're both jumping, it'll push him down a bit
Nope no offense but RB and LB are usually speedy or very clinical...... Its a very dangerous position. This might work if u r playing very defensive but offensive u need to cut inside always
DJ TEZRON there aint no way to defend against more than one player or multiple players if your team dont defend as a team or if you defend alone. Your best Possible options is holding them back until help arrives 😊
Don't commit show the players the pass that ur ready to go for cover the goal and keep close so u can get a lose pass and block his shoots while defending against 3 u have to bd smart and force them to error and u have to go full in where the ball is meant to be won by u u just can't wait all the time
I got absolutely shredded by a winger because they always dribbled at me which forced me onto my heals, which allowed them to beat me with pace. Once I was overcommitted to recovering, they would beat me again lol
I will usually study his game and how often he uses his feet in passing or kicking, if he is a right-footer I will often guard his left side and let him run on my right side and keep a distance from him.
Question about “forcing him one way” is that he would just attack the other direction? Say you open up your body towards your left trying to force a right winger to go wide…wouldn’t he just dribble inside as it’s now much slower for you to turn towards your right?
Not me not being able to do headers till september because of a concussion. The rest of this helped though. I play the 6 so it's not the forwards, but midfielders who are extremely fast for me.
From a 40 year old playing again 20 year old. The most fearful thing is guys with pace and when you one on one with. Best thing you can do is foul. Not much else you can do

Well said my friend.I think this video however focused more on a stopper type of defender rather than a sweeper.

Bro it's one of the best advice for a defender... First try won't work well maybe... Practice and you ll be able to do this well
