Wow!! This is going to be game changing for transferring files!!
I ordered one of these a week ago. Nice to see you already tested it and it works.
Awesome find! I might buy one of these just to make things easier on my XT, but god is it slow. Still would be handy and save the effort trying to connect it to my NAS box.
Thanks for taking the time to make this overview.
I was excited for this until I saw the results of the speed test: 565972 bytes in 61 seconds is 9KB a second, which is slightly slower than a 360K floppy drive. Even your later test at 27KB/s is slower than a network adapter transferring via FTP using mTCP. It also seems limited to 512MB or smaller flash drives. So while this is convenient, it's not for me personally.
I agree it's not for transferring big data. But it's ok to have the option. And also we get a USB port for 5v supply for other gadgets. ;-)
I had no problem using 2GB FAT16 partitions. I know that Touchdev wrote that it was limited to 512MB. Maybe he was talking about boot drives, and that the limit was in the ROM BIOS?
I did a new test with version 1.9 of the driver the speed is now 32% faster. Also copying larger files are considerably faster. e.x. i used 48 seconds to copy 1,964MB that is 40KB/s.
@@RetroErik thanks for the update! That's now roughly at the speed of a parallel port transfer, so definitely a big improvement.
@@JimLeonard Just wait some Weeks, you can order some now ;)
@@JimLeonard No need to wait for weeks, I now have a much faster driver. So you can buy some :)
great video Erik!! Amazing information!! Gonna get one of these usb adapters for my XT!! Thanks!
Thanks, i am glad to help.
Great video! Did not know these existed!
Thanks
After watching Tech Tangents video(ua-cam.com/video/cgtvVi_mjjg/v-deo.html) on this card i ran some new speed test comparing the 1.9 and the 2.0a driver.
Space Quest 3 copied from XT-IDE to USB on ISA card (1,964MB) on an 286-12MHZ machine
1.9 driver: 48 sec with parameter %0
1.9 driver: 52 sec with parameter %1
2.0a driver: 71 sec with parameter %0
2.0a driver: 72 sec with parameter %1
As we can see the 1.9 drivers are about 32% faster.
Oh! Man! How do find that stuff? Would be great to have another board to work the opposite a USB to ISA RISER would be EPIC ♥
