We should see toxic people as sick people. Either way, I don’t have time for manipulation, games or relationships that are one sided. I’d rather be by myself. Thankfully, I really like my own company. Stoicism has helped me so much. I incorporated stoicism into my recovery from being a toxic alcoholic. Now, I’m a little over 2 years free from alcohol.

It's important to approach such thoughts with a balanced perspective. Stoicism teaches us to differentiate between constructive criticism and harmful negativity. As Epictetus said, 'It is not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.' Focus on self-improvement and personal growth, but also recognize your own worth and value. Sometimes, people's harshness reflects their own struggles rather than an objective truth about us. Strive for wisdom and compassion, both towards yourself and others.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you're facing. When dealing with a loved one's toxic behavior, it's essential to focus on what you can control - your own reactions and well-being. Marcus Aurelius advised, 'The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.' Try to maintain your inner peace and set healthy boundaries. Encourage open communication and seek support from friends, family, or a counselor for yourself. Remember, you deserve to be in a healthy and supportive environment

This advice however doesn't take into account the moral compass of behaviour range; since for example if this advice is given to a criminal then it is misguiding the criminal into thinking that they should ignore all the negative feedback /criticism about evil the criminal did, and to keep on going on their pathway of maintaining their focus on the crime and strengthening it. The advice should have been presented with a caveat that it applies only to the innocent party. And it also wrongly assumes that toxic people only make mere comments when in fact toxic people in the work place can take action also behind the scenes to cost us our jobs or prevent a promotion by the way they choose to create obstacles in our job's pathway.

Once a single lady came to visit us. Mostly she was interesting, but shared too much about her marriage. She stayed until almost midnight and when I went off to the bathroom and returned she had taken my place on the couch by my husband, laying her head on the pillow. I asked her to move and soon walked her to the door. When she dropped by, as I was getting home, she fished for an invitation to come inside for a visit. I got rid of her.😂
