  • I went out looking for short-eared owls in a new wetland location - I failed to see any, but it turned out to be a fantastic roe deer habitat 🦌
    🐾 Please subscribe to see more of my videos bit.ly/2RXfyUa 👍 I've got loads of exciting nature photography trips and projects with the wildlife camera coming up 😊
    I went to a local wetland and nature reserve to look for short eared owls since they'd been seen in that location in previous years. It's not far from where I live and I'd known about for some years, but still somehow I'd not managed to get out to it until now. While there were no owls to be seen (and I've not seen any records for that location this year), I quickly discovered that it was a location with a large population of roe deer, and I had some really nice encounters with some of them.
    Once again, apologies that it's been so long since the last upload. I have a few more vlogs recorded but editing time is still very scarce so I won't make any promises about when the next one will be! Anyway, when it comes, the next video will be from my second visit to the same location...

      Thanks Andy. The bag is really useful for just being able to bung everything in and not think too much about it!

    Good to see you out and about again Geoff. How often has this happened to me, the wildlife you unintentionally find can be just as exciting as that which you don’t. All the more reason to go back!

    Brilliant chanel Geoff, I really enjoy watchimg your videos, I am going to go to Argaty red kite but this time for the red squirrels, I've not been to Argaty for years but definitely going soon, just waiting for my 500mm f5.6 pf

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper  2 роки тому

      Thanks Walid, glad you're enjoying the channel :) For the squirrel hide at Argaty you might find 500mm to be a bit too long as the feeders etc are quite close. I found that 400mm was right on the edge for everything except the jumps, and even there 300mm would have been better... For the squirrels running around the feeders, the 70-200 (sometimes with a 1.4x TC) was pretty good.

    • @nikonid80
      @nikonid80 2 роки тому

      @@GeoffCooper ok, I might find it difficult because I started getting rid of my f mount lenses but opted for 500 pf instead of Z 400 f5.6, will see how it goes. I literally sold everything. Have you been to trishnesh islands? My favourite place for puffins

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper  2 роки тому +1

      @@nikonid80 Ah well, I'm sure you'll get something with whatever you have! I've literally just made the opposite decision to switch fully to Z and use the 400mm f/4.5 VR S - there'll be a video about it soon... That means I am selling both my 500mm PF and 400mm f/2.8G VR!

    The SEO eludes me too after all these year's, I'll keep trying though. Your right it's so good to be back out and about into the wilds and nature again. I've worked all the way through the pandemic and managed a few trips out but not into the wilds which I prefer. Still, I haven't manged to ditch my car again so that's a plus. I took jnr out today to photograph red kites, I struggled to get decent flight shots with the Z7 but its still new to me, need more practice. You did well to get the roe deer, hopefully you will see the SEO mate.

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jon :) Yeah, I've not seen a SEO for years now and back then all I got was a couple of very distant flight shots... I'm sure one day I'll see one close up! The Z7 takes practice for flight shots, and I'm still not convinced it's as accurate as the D500 for that, but you'll get used to it and the advantages it brings are really worth it.

    A very clear delivered there Geoff like the stills the way you place the subject in it's habitat ( feel when a shot is over cropped it looses it's sense of place.) Roe are definitely my favorite u.k. deer. Look forward to more vlogs. 👍
