Hmm, a bit misleading for folks contemplating this task that you don't mention the fact that the wifi antennas are merely copper strips attached to stickers, which are stuck to the front of the plastic header in the top center, which the screen adhesive is then stuck over top of. It is nearly impossible to remove the screen and its adhesive without destroying at least one of the three antennas there because the adhesive for the screen is a whole lot stronger than the adhesive holding those antenna stickers down. They're going to want to come up with the screen. As is evidenced at 1:26, where it can be seen that the two antennas to the right of the camera are missing from the header, but can be seen still stuck to the back of the screen you just removed - Oops! But then without mention, all three antennas are miraculously in their proper place @ 2:45 ;-) Just a heads up to anyone considering tackling this, you will almost certainly damage one or more antennas. Replacements can be had on Amazon or Ebay for $30-$40. Just something to keep in mind when doing your risk/cost analysis.
Skilled craftwork is always a pleasure to see and this guy is obviously very diligent and efficient. Thanks for posting it (the client in my case decided to discard the old PC instead, thank goodness, since I don't think I could pull off this quality of repair, even allowing that I just have a swollen battery I can't get at without removing the screen).
you say he knows what he is doing, he commented to be careful on the antenna area and he still ruined one side antenna as they are on both sides of the camera, his clean up of the old glue is good yes, but not very good screen removal
Very good visuals, and your detailed work with the adhesive tape was as good as a surgeon. Excellent demo! Nice to know why it costs so much to fix it, and will consider sending you my broken SP.
Just a quick tip: If you (or a friend) has a 3D printer, use the printer's bed heater to bring it up to 75C to heat the screen for easy removal. Did it tonight and it worked out great! Works just like the heater in the video.
Nice video on removal ans installation. One would have to be more careful in removing a non damaged screen. Also, I didn't see how you repaired the damaged corner, it was pushed in a few mm. How did you do it?
I'm a technician the screen removal isn't the hard part. Just be extra careful around the camera where the wifi is, cause it's just a sicker basically and easily rips. I bricked mine removing the battery tho so be extra careful to put something between the logic board and the battery connector and I would recommend discharging your battery as much as possible beforehand. but if you are just removing/replacing the screen you should be ok if you have did repairs like this in the past.
Nice video! after watching this, I now know why it costs $280! By the time i purchase all the pre-req's for installation plus screen, it's about that. And the fact that I will have to buy screen twice as I will for sure damage it the first time I try to install it.

If the digitizer gets broken, the touch tablet is gone. The good news is it will still work as a normal non touch laptop. Its not like Microsoft couldn’t build a rugged touch digitizer because I’ve dropped my iPad occasionally, nothing is cracked and everything still works! Microsoft should be ashamed of itself for building a fragile product that can’t stand up to normal wear and tear.
Hi great video! Need help though with some questions I need to fix my bf’s surface pro 😱 screen acting weird it have been cracked but like just a tiny bit on the bottom area & now the unit just doesnt respond properly cause it thinks something is pressing on the screen here are my questions 1-What type of adhesive tape is needed any particular ? 2-the alcohol thing you have been pouring on the edges can it be 80% alcohol like sanitizer ones? Or is it a special type just for electronic? What is it for? For cleaning? Diluting the adhesive? Or...? 3-Can i use a hair dryer to heat the screen at the beginning? Thank you for your help

Appreciate your video, but it would have been nice to have some commentary on specific details of what you are using and any warnings, etc., as you go along.

Is there any way to test the display to make sure that it's working? I have a Surface where the screen cracked & was still working, I tried 2 different screens & I can touch the screen & see that the digitizer is sensing my hand when I hook up a monitor to the display port. I've purchased a new digitizer & 2 new ribbon cables in hopes that this would solve my issue. I've replaced several other screens on different surfaces without this issue & I can't figure out if I damaged something on the surface to prevent the screen from showing up.
A controlabl heating table or heating mat with digital readout. Plastic guitar picks, thin edge pry tool, empty cardboard jewelry box, denatured alcohol dispenser, 5mm and 3mm double faced tape, metal sludge (used to remove original mid frame adhesive) two 7 inch long plastic pry tools used to suspend new screen above mid frame in order to center screen prior to installation. 90 degree angled tweezers come in handy too.

When I hook up a mini display cable to the surface I can touch the blank screen & see that the screen senses my fingers on the screen but I can't get an image on either of the 2 screens to save my life. Any suggestions? I'm not buying a 3rd screen.

it's probably over heating, lay it on a flat surface and check to see if there is also a bulge or not... Chances are your batteries are gone bad and are inflated.
It could also be delaminating - I got a single yellow streak on the left of my Surface and after a few month the screen began to bulge ( again on the left ) where the yellow streak first appeared. As best I can tell the yellow streak disappeared after the screen began to separate from the frame.
