  • As the Deer-Vocal
Normally I play this new hymn, but it's been on my mind and heart in the last couple of weeks as a vocal, a song from my heart. I've been reading a chronological Bible this year, and I'm in Deuteronomy where Moses is recounting the instructions and laws God has given to Israel before they go into the promised land-without him. They have followed poorly since Egypt, falling away from God for idolatry, complaining, adultery, greed, and all manner of sin. God has given them battles, kingdoms, food, water-all the things they would need to survive and thrive as His people. And yet they have forsaken Him for their desires at every turn.
When I sing this wonderful new hymn by Marty Nystrom, I'm reminded that I sometimes follow things other than my Savior. But my underlying desire is to be His wholly, to desire Him more than anything this world has to offer. Philippians 2:13 lets us know that He will help us desire the right things. May this always be our prayer. (Forgive my faux paux on the last verse . . . I missed Him being the true joy-giver!)
As the deer panteth for the water,
So my soul longeth after You.
You alone are my heart's desire,
And I long to worship You.
    Refrain
    You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You.
You're my friend and You are my brother,
Even though You are a King.
I love You more than any other,
    So much more than anything.
I want You more than gold or silver,
    Only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver,
And the apple of my eye.

Sitting on the edge of the bed at 5.15am with a lovely cup of tea listening to you sing and play. I think I should listen to you later on over a pina colada or a Manhattan as I can picture you playing this in a downtown cocktail bar.....would the bartenders and regular customers know it's one of the most famous praise and worship songs there are? Probably not. Would they come up to you and say 'you're such a wonderful pianist and sweet singer, Mrs. Rosser'.....Almost certainly. As would I with a bouquet of flowers and a hug. And a prayer for you and for Greg. Hope he's okay.

Thanks, David! You're very kind. And thanks for your prayers for Greg. He had one of two "devices" removed this week, so is feeling a bit better. Next week he gets the next one out, so he's healing well and feeling better by the day.

Hittin those high notes with beauty and perfection! #Jesusarmy 🎉
Bible teaches not to isolize false Gods, but I think its okay to learn about them, respect them as others Gods, as long as You only Idolize the One True God. it's okay, cos its just knowledge, and knowlege is power. thx Geri! great job.

foe example, I was always spooked out by black cats, til I learned that Egyptian Bastet is a spiritual protector, so I have a Bastet cat statue, and if it protects my soul, then great! but JC and His Dad are still my True and only Bosses. 🎉

Thanks for listening and for your comments. Learning about the "whys" is always good. But borrowing from the culture, as we all have done in some way or other, tends to pull us away from our First Love. I'm glad God is forgiving, and that others intercede on our behalf, like Moses, when we stray away to false gods.
