This is a really helpful video! Trying to write a murder mystery historical fantasy that has vampiric shapeshifters and involves themes of "colorism sucks." I think the iron teeth bit and shapeshifting into insects is cool, and I don't understand why more vampire stories don't use that.
That is so cool, your story. And I agree. That was one of my favorite features. I also think it makes the vampire more deadly shifting into a "harmless" insect.
Vampires are my favourite supernatural creatures as well! 😊 It's such a shame that there aren't enough movies or shows that centre around African/Caribbean vampires. And I absolutely agree. I am sick and tired of 'pale' being used as a descriptor for vampires. Vampires don't have to have pale skin. They can have melaninated, dark skin and still be beautiful and badass!
Because of the melanin of dark skin "paleness" doesn't show it just looks like they're ashy and didn't moisturize their skin. It's not a good look. There are other descriptions or characteristics to describe vampires of darker complexion. We all know why vampires are pale. There is a lot of information out there explaining why. My point is when a storyteller is thinking about creating a vampire who is African American there are vampire/vampire like vampires from African and Caribbean culture that can be used and if they still want to use vampire folklore from Europe, there are other great descriptions like speed, the eye color, etc. But it's just my opinion, and it was a fun video to make.
Dope.

This is awesome. I’ve been saying for awhile that we need more black horror and fantasy.
Yup I 100% agree with you and we can use some of these African myths and folklore to create them it will be really cool.
