A meaningful and moving story that I can sympathize with in various ways. Appreciate your art and openness, and look forward to learning more from you. Thanks.
The comments about the hands brought me to tears - what a poignant way of describing your parents live in you always - lovely video. Thank you for sharing
Nial, I just found your channel and watched some of your videos. I love your work !! I am 65 and only started to paint a few years back (pandemic) and enjoy it a lot even though my day time job as a scientist (nearing the end of his scientific career) does not always give me enough time to spend behind the easel. Your staory about your father touched me.... I lost mine 30 years ago, the year I was moving from The Netherlands to the US. We had a lovely bond, but did not have much in common..... one of the last memories of him was him and me on a soccer field, me hitting golfballs for fun, him with his rain coat and cigarette in his hand just enjoying spending a few minutes with his son without having to worry about a thing....... watching your video brought that memory back.... thank you for that.
I'm humbled by this film Nial and grateful to know a little more about your journey. When we met years ago, both wearing the social masks our professional lives required from us, we did occasionally find a way of connecting more deeply. I remember we had some very honest conversations about vulnerability and grief. I'm not sure I knew how to do that justice then but time and experience seem to create a unique patina to our characters. From this beautifully made film I see a glimpse of soulful evolution and am inspired by it.
Thank you Anne, Yes, isn't it the case that only after our souls have been washed out and put through the wringer we finally have the chance to be ourselves. That 'unique patina' is hard earned and proudly worn. I really appreciate your kind words. N.
Wonderfully shot film. A beautiful story and insight into your journey to painting, Nial. I am lucky I have met you in person and privileged to have had your tuition. Such helpful advice and support. Thank you.
Oh Nial, this was so touching, so wonderdul...And to think I met you when you had " sold your soul to the devil"...And the artist in you would still shine through! I am so blessed to call you my friend. Let's hope we can get reunited when the world get's back to a safe pace. Sending my love and my congratulations from very dark and sad California!
Claudine, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. And that this little story has reached the sunny skies of California, even in these dark time. Stay safe and keep well. Lots of love from this side of the Pond. N
I found your page, in my search on how to paint light with oil. Thank you for giving away this part of your personal story. I just have to tell you... be a teacher for others and your father will always live in the paint and brushes of your students. thank you!
What a beautiful film. In my minds eye I could see you painting with your dad , as a little boy. The language used in this film gives me a sense of peaceful contemplation and a yearning to break out my sketchbook. I am only just beginning my journey with paints . I love what your dad said about learning to mix all different shades of grey. Thank for making the film 🙏😊
I love the movie and how it let us have a sneak peak in to the life of Nial Adams. The connection to his father is so touching. I’m very happy, that his Dad gave Nial the input to pick up the brush again 🤗🥰
I just "found you" online. There is so much wisdom in this piece that I was deeply moved. Yes - ah - what we glean by living 40 years... Thank you for the film. Priceless!
Wow, excellent Nial , the emotion and sentiment is beautiful- as a father to a young boy whom is my world this film really struck a chord. Best wishes from Ireland and keep up your wonderful gift from your Dad, your work is fantastic!
I studied Vermeer in university and even wrote my thesis on him. I was/am captivated by his ability to draw one into the work through its beauty and simplicity. All the artists I studied however are long dead and I've been looking for a favourite contemporary artist to capture my imagination. I believe you've done so, sir :)
Wow Nial ... I did not want the film to end which is a tribute to yourself plus Tom Martin and friends. I am proud to be able to say I have known you for 15 years (Antidote #1 at Keswick Hall) and have watched and experienced your life transitioning in several areas over those years with ongoing admiration. You now seem more grounded than ever before which has released your full creativity. You are an inspiration not only to me but to several others whom we both know. Continue being true to yourself Nial, that is your path.
Hi Chris and thanks so much for your kind words. It's been a journey and now this film feels like it's become part of that story. So pleased that you enjoyed it and thank you for taking time to leave a comment. Sending you warmest regards. Nial
Nial this is a great piece of work, brilliantly put together and narrated very enchantingly by yourself. I'm in a lovely place when I paint and thanks to you, I feel able to move forward with my art. Congratulations on this production, take care and see you sometime this year.
Thank you David. Yes, it's a very good production and it was such a pleasure working with Tom Martin and all the team that put so much time and effort into this. Glad you enjoyed it. Nial
Thank you for your video. I found it moving and inspirational. The phrase you used of getting your vision in the brain to the end of the brush completely resonates with me. It is wonderful that you returned to creating your art again and I wish you many days of joy with your paints .
Nial, thank you so much for sharing your incredibly moving, inspiring and honest story. I'm certain it's one I will return to regularly for the beauty and the generousity in the telling of it. Respect and much admiration from Suraya in South Africa
This film touched me very deeply. Reflecting over the memories and the grief over losing a parent can lay under the surface, and your experience helped me connect with my own feelings. Thank you for sharing your experience with us Nial. What a gift.
Thank you so much for this insight to a part of you. Sharing your relationship with your father and your painting was very touching. My heart felt feelings watching this made me tearful but excited about the process of wanting and being a painter. And yes I too looked at my hands and could see my mothers hands. This happen when I was younger and it is nice that even now I still do it from time to time. I haven't been painting long a few years but with each brush stroke over time I learn something new. A process I continue to love.
What an inspiring and thoughtful film. Its themes and emotions are applicable to so many people and situations, not just to artists or the artists within us. Thank you for sharing this with us Nial and thank you to Tom for filming it so beautifully. P.S. Tom's website link needs amending.
Brilliant in many ways.
Many thanks 🙏🏻
