    Use a stick to hold the wood so u dont lose a finger

      You need to wear gloves because you wear gloves! In all seriousness, at that point my hands were plenty calloused to not need gloves. Today, they're back in that state, but they lost a lot of that for a couple years when I wasn't doing as much outdoor & handy work.
