anyone remember when Kendrick said this about Em:
"The clarity---I got my clarity just studying Em, when I was a kid. How I got in the studio was just all off curiosity. I had a love for the music, but it was curiosity. The day I heard MMLP, I was just like how does that work? What is he doing? How is he putting his words together like that? . . .How is his words cutting through the beat like that? What is he doing that I'm not doing? . . .His timing is impeccable. . ." from that rick rubin GQ interview

Kendrick was amazed Eminem could spit on a beat and actually be understood by listeners. Like if you compare some stuff from the 90s and 80s to Em what was missing so from that older stuff was clarity, that “cutting through the beat” quality of Em’e delivery.

I was in jail when I first heard ( My name is ) and saw the video...it got completely silent Everytime that video was played and everyone payed full attention. Silent !!!!!!!! Everyone knew without doubt Eminem was going to blow all the way up and it wasn't because of him being White. It was Directly that SKILL LEVEL and how he formulated those Bars even in that song. It was a NEW STREET type style only being used on an underground level and not in mainstream Rap. .he introuduced that street style to the industry. Frankly, the one thing that makes Eminem a good rapper is his willingness to change his style from how he writes to his flow.
Listen to other rappers who have been around the scene for a while now, they keep a consistent style and it just seems like they can't step away from it. Like Jay-Z, Nas, Ludacris hell even Snoop Dogg. They make a new album, you'll recognize every part of it as a typical Jay-Z album.
Eminem goes from creating the Eminem show, to relapse, to Music to be Murdered by. Three albums that sound so completely different and have a completely different approach to things. It's like, he wants to continue experimenting and trying new things. While everyone else approaches things with the mentality "why change what's not broken?"
To be successful you gotta be willing to change, adapt and grow.

I think it is kinda crazy how many black rappers say they love Eminem and his music, they just can't relate to it. But It's simply just because he's white. If you actually take skin color out of the equation, and listen to his first 3 albums and certain songs throughout his whole career, most guys from 17-21 to their late 20's can relate to the more personal/serious songs about real life no matter what. Money struggles, being unsuccessful and putting everything you have into becoming successful/achieving your dream/goals, becoming a famous Rapper, Professional Athlete, Famous Actor etc.) other struggles like drug problems or family members having drug problems etc. Anyways, Eminem raps about alot of the same shit black rappers rap about. He just happened to live in trailer parks sometimes but the majority of the time he was just living in bad neighborhoods. So idk, I just don't understand. It's the same thing the other way around as well. I couldn't relate to 80% of the topics 2Pac wrote about but when he was talking about growing up poor, in a bad neighborhood? or drugs, depression, anxiety and paranoia? I could relate. So why cant these same rappers relate to Em when he raps about the same subjects?

💯 facts! If they can’t relate to human emotions just cause the artist isn’t the same skin colour they lack empathy & intellect. You ain’t gotta be same race to understand human experiences. It’s like Celine Dion she is apart of the trinity with Mariah & Whitney as best vocalists of all time, they’d never discredit her talent n say she isn’t relatable purely cause she isn’t the same skin tone as Mariah & Whitney they’d be laughed at if they did.

I'm btw not white. I just find it infuriating whenever us people of colour create something like hiphop but then act like gatekeepers when a white man wants to enter it. If he entered it while making fun of it, it would be a big difference. But he enters it while respecting, understanding it AND being good at it. So how are we ever going to get equality from all sides when "we" also dislike "outsiders".

Man, I was just thinking about this recently - why didn't I love rap until I heard the Marshall Mathers LP?? Am I that shallow that just because he's white, I'd listen?? But then I realized that I felt better about listening because I felt too much like a poser listening to most hip-hop because it wasn't "my" music. But I felt like I had "permission" with Em so maybe I wasn't invading somebody else's art/culture. Of course I couldn't relate to the gangster shit (hoes, drinking, guns, fights, gangs, etc) but when I heard Em talking about his horrible mother, feeling isolated, being poor and embarrassed, being sarcastic about all of it - I got it. I had discovered a legit wordsmith. And then I could understand some of the other artists better, and appreciate the elements of hip-hop as a craft much more thoroughly.

That's why I love Rakim. He says most people have a gimmick over their rap. And that is the truuuuuth. Dude is like the philosopher of the origin of the game. Fucking Alan Watts over here. Em's style and skills speak all by them selves. I agree. It's the truth

I remember in 1998 / 99 when Eminem blew up. I was born in 1980 so I was 18/19 when he really popped off and I remember him having 5 to 6 songs that were popular on the radio all the same I would be playing 94.1 in Tampa and they will play five of his songs almost in a row because that was what was popular lol. I'm not going to lie, I'm so grateful that I grew up in an era where I remember tupac, biggie, bone thugs-n-harmony, wu-tang,luniz etc..... I'm very blessed that the 90s were my teenage years and I got some of the best rap artist out of that and remember when Eminem and 50 cent came out. Along with so many other great rappers and artists
