So nice when an artist is honest about a frustrating process or a mistake instead of just editing it out. Thanks. Really liked this style.
Glad it's appreciated
I'm inspired for the first time in so long. Thank you❤
I'm so glad!
I love this moody style Id love to see more in this style. Im def gonna try this looks so fun and Im a sucker for moody colours. Theyre my favourite
I will definitely keep that in mind!
I think it is quite lovely and dramatic! Love this style and your tutorial.Thank you. Looking forward to more ideas and painting tutorial.
You are so welcome!
I love your videos and have been following for a long time. I really like the fact that you make mistakes and are not afraid to show them , it taught me to not be so angry and frustrated with myself. The end result looks enchanting!
Thanks for the comment! I still get angry and frustrated but I'm glad you've experienced the opposite haha
Your authentic style is so refreshing and endearing. I really love this painting, as well. Thanks so much for sharing, mistakes and all. It’s helpful to know how you deal with them. Looking forward to giving this a try!
Thank you so much!
I like the one thinker tree! It looks closer!
:)
GENIAL...!!! 👏🎶📽️🖋️📖🖌️🎨
:)
I like it a lot. Very inspiring.
Glad you like it!
Art isn’t supposed to be perfect! I love that you are human and you showed us how to cope with your ‘mistake’ but quite honestly I love having one thicker tree. It gives it balance! Do NOT apologize and ignore your critics!
Thanks for your support!
Actually you can learn a lot from your critics.. feedback is invaluable for artists...😅
I think it's a great guys card!
Yes!
As always, very nice!
Thanks again!
I like it!! You may have been over-thinking things. We are all self critical--I thought I was the only one who had problems!! But really, I always feel much more accomplished when I can solve a problem...(you know who) named them Happy Accidents for a reason
Haha only reason I know 'who' is because my lovely viewers have quoted that a few times. I never watched bob ross.
I think this card is beautiful. But I tried looking up Joanna Gray 75 for more ideas and I can't find her
She's on IG!
@@JuliaLisArt thank you!
Please link the artist who inspired this piece.

I think it’s beautiful. You’re relatable even in being too hard on yourself. Thank you for this moody painting, I like it very much.
Thanks!
As did I! It was the moody look that got my attention 😊shirt and simple but very nice 👍
Thank you, abstract watercolor landscapes are my favorite.
Mine too!
Mine three!! 💙
Try the back of your hand on your work. If it is cold, it is still wet! Good luck!
Good tip!
This beautiful. It’s much prettier than you think. Thank you. 😊
Thank you! 😊
I like the bleeding effect and blur. That’s how things appear in the mist, morning dew or rain.
Indeed :)
I’m a 74 retired data control technician and have been painting 3 years. I loved the video especially when you shared ‘grinds my gears’. Made me chuckle, haven’t heard that one but I will surely use it. 😉
I'm surprised you haven't heard that one before!
I think your " happy accident " turned out beautiful! Love this whole idea, and the gold that you painted on the larger tree trunk in the end and on the smaller ones turned out to make it just an excellent overall piece of art! It's beautiful, and you have inspired me! Thank you for sharing!🌺🌈🙋♀️
Thanks!
I hate waiting for the paint to dry. I stop, go for a walk, do some laundry, or SOMETHING. Watching you make a mistake made me laugh. I say...happy accidents! It turned out very nice!
Thanks! A hair dryer works great to speed up drying
Hello, thanks for your tutorial. -I don't think I've ever found a watercolour landscape tutorial with different levels in the foreground like yours has. I really like it. And I like the darks. Woods are sometimes moist and musty and brackish. (at least where I come from!) The effect is more grounding - more woodsy!
I love this description, thank you
@@JuliaLisArt You're welcome!
I love it…especially with the gold! Reminds me of Mind of Watercolor’s landscapes too…thanks for sharing this video 😊❤️
My pleasure 😊
I think the mistake tree looks awesome and gives it a focal point
Thanks!
I have been following you for years,.. I love your work ,. But I appreciate your down to earth with sharing your trials and tribulations as you go along ,.. it really goes a long way with beginners that see that even the artists that inspire us have to trial and error their technics and you share your frustrations and emotions behind it yet ALWAYS come out with a beautiful painting!!!..
It is hard to wait for the paint to dry......thanks for sharing your mistakes and final creation....beautiful.
My pleasure 😊
do you always paint on a 2x3 piece of paper?
Mostly lately
"Fly speck " is what that's called
:)
Oh watercolor how I love thee, let me count thy ways
:)
I love the layered branches. Love this.
:)
Please enjoy this simple watercolor painting tutorial!
"grinds my gears...", won me over!
Liked and subscribed!
Haha I'm surprised so many have never heard of this saying!
@@JuliaLisArt I have heard it... I just find its rarely used... But be spontaneous, be you!
I'm looking forward to more of your work!
👁
I believe you have experienced a, "Happy little accident." I really like how it turned out.
:)
I just found your channel! I’m an inexperienced 63 year old lady retired from the computer programming world but would love to learn more about painting. I’m a beginner level Love-to-be budding lady wannabe artist!😂 Will be watching your videos. Love what I’ve seen so far.
Thank you for watching, I hope you find lots to be inspired by. Ps I seem to have a lot of retired programmers/engineers here
Goooood for you! for taking on something new. Welcome to the wonderful world of watercolor 🎨🖌️
As someone who has taught watercolor for more than 30 years, I encourage you to please do yourself the favor of getting good paper (YES!! Even though you’re just a beginner) good, quality paint (5 colors of good paint will take you farther, faster than 100 colors of junk watercolor) and a few decent brushes (Good w/c brush will have a nice point for detailed work and a nice belly for larger washes, one good brush can do several jobs, again vs lots of not-so-good brushes).
I’ve seen, time without number, people getting junk supplies to “learn” with but give up in frustration bc they think they “can’t do w/color”. It’s not them, it’s the crap supplies they’re using.
Kind of like using a Big Wheels toy to learn how to drive on the highway…or a kids’ plastic tools set expecting to gain the skills to build a house 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Suggestions:
3 primary colors and neutral tint or Paynes’s grey in Winsor & Newton Artist/Professional grade (or their student grade: Cotman)
Daniel Smith seems quite good too. Also an opaque white (Dr. PH Martins Bleed-proof White)
Or get yourself a Winsor & Newton Field Travel kit, GREAT buy for the money (on Amazon, about $35)= decent colors to get you started.
Arches is fantastic paper, but pricy- there are others try to get 100% cotton (cotton vs paper/wood pulp makes all the difference: cotton paper is specifically made to make watercolor sing)
Princeton has some fabulous travel WATERCOLOR brush kits (they work beautifully at home too- again: double duty = more bang for your buck).
Happy painting 🤗

So funny…same,63 yo retired nurse. Not an artist but enjoying faking it !!
@@differenttakethanmost Thanks for the tips!
Julia, your uploads always inspire me to TRY, just TRY something new. THANK YOU ❤
I'm so glad!
I love it!
:)
Charming and moody at the same time! Well done!
Thanks!
Use a hair dryer or heat gun. You have good style and ideas.
I do :)
👏👌👏
:)
I love this!
:)
Thank you, beautiful and emotional painting.
Thank you!
Spattering. 😉
:)
J aime beaucoup. Merci 🤎💜
Enjoyed watching you paint this, and I like that you have the bigger tree ❤
Thanks for watching!
Very nice, I wouldn't let those little "mistakes" bug you, after
all it's just paper, water, and a little paint. I actually liked the
little thicker tree in there it added more interest.
I like this style of painting, I do mini paintings and I love them.
They also make lovely cards.
Thanks for watching!
'it's just paper water and a little paint' - I love it! It'd make a good sign/memo for a studio space (or kitchen table!)
Gorgeous effect, and nice look at your process, thank you!
:)
I think you judged yourself to harshly on this. It really creates a mood. I like it a lot.
Thanks!
Love it ❤
:)
I love this quick and easy, sophisticated technique! Can’t wait to try it!
Have fun!
I tried it! Much fun painting along with you, but I can see that I need much more practice with a controlled hand drawing the skinny branches of the trees!
@@JuliaLisArt i’d like to send you my awkward finished results but I can’t figure out how to use a camera for UA-cam.
Beautiful painting, Julie!!! Love this style and love how you are so authentic ❤️
Thank you so much!
Spatter is the word you are looking for.
Thanks!
I am a Canadian who loves your art
Props!
Julia what is the tiny wood handled brush you use to paint the trees???
shrsl.com/4gook Here is my affiliate link!
I apologize if I missed it, but what brush did you use for the trees?
Grabie - linked in description
A beautiful painting.
Thank you for sharing your process. The end result was happy accidents and I’m excited to give this a try.
Nice!
What kind of paint brush are you using?
Grabie!
Baby is upset about being left out of art time.. 😤
Haha there's a lot more where that came from
Loved this, thanku ❤
:)
Where to find Joanna Gray75?
Instagram
What brush did you use for the trees?
If it was a wooden handle, then Grabie, blue = windsor and newton, maroon - grumbacher
Awesome painting. Love the moody forest 😍
:)
I love it!
Thanks!
Try using a hairdryer
I do!
I love the style.
:)
I loved it. 😊
:)
Love this😍
:)
Wonderful
Thank you!
I love it!

Long sleeeeevs?
?
I really like the way this turned out.
Thanks!
Love it
:)
👍👍👍👍
:)
I'm genuinely amazed-bravo!🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐎🐎🤩
Thanks!
Love this! Can’t wait to try
Hope you like it!
LOVE this! Funny thing, only yesterday a saw a post of Joanna Gray's work and was captivated by it. Then today I discover you and this great tutorial! Nothing like spatter and a hit of shiny metallic paint when in doubt. :-) Thank you for this; much appreciated. FWIW - FYI - The first 2 links for Canada you provided (paper & paint) don't work.
Thank you for letting me know!
Dear Julia, lovely painting. Thanks a lot for sharing. Best wishes from Brasil 🇧🇷 🎊 🎉❤😊
Thanks for watching!
I lile your watercolour it's well from the contrasts and palette color. I really love it the dark contrasting with the sky or mist and the subtle speaks of gold.
I subscribed as I want to follow your tutorials.
Sandra Giuria
Welcome!
AWSOME, love your thought and style. Thank you for sharing of yourself .
Thanks for watching!
Waiting till things dry was the hardest lesson for me. Only hard because of my impatience .
You and I both!
Super. Allerdings kann ich nicht so gut mit dem dünnen Pinsel malen. Ich versuche das Bild mal mit Fineliner für die Bäume.😊
This would be a decent 5 minute video.
Not sure what you're trying to say here
I think he’s trying to say he’s a jerk😜
I love the thicker tree! It creates depth. I know it wasn't what you had envisioned, but it was cool.
Glad you like it :)
Thank you for not cutting out your “mistake”. Love your problem solving. I actually loved your tree
I make lots of mistakes
I understand what You mean by that blurred part, but it doesn't look bad though...
Thanks!
The dark, moody look is fab! you have a bit of light there that satisfies the eye. and the splatters? it looks great without them or with the dark only...just me looking at it for a painitng for my wall.....well done Julia!!
Thanks!
I really enjoyed watching this video ❤ Thank you for sharing ❤
:)
Your over thinking about what u thought was a mistake, actually looked really good.
Thanks!
I like that you talk through your process and I think you made the thick tree work and it actually ends up being a focal point because it is different.
Thanks Sharon!
I just painted this and oh my gosh, it was so easy and so much fun and turned out so good that I painted one in my journal and one to frame! I felt so good after having so many failures! I am going to try another one of your tutorials tomorrow. Thank you so much!
This makes me so happy to read, woohoo!! Go Sharon!
I to just found ur Chanel and I'm new to watercolor..u just got u a new sub ur awesome thank u for ur vids
Awesome! Thank you!
Just love this. I'm going to give it a go. The gold highlights on the trees are perfect ❤️👍
Good luck!
Lovely ideas, thank you very much ❤
You are so welcome!
I really liked this moody painting. More please.
:)
I like the thicker tree as it is the focal point and gives dimension to your painting.
:)
Nice abstract I like that it's a little dark and moody. Thanks Julia 😊❤
:)
I have no painting ability whatsoever, but I'm mesmerized by those who are blessed with your artistic talent. And I love this creation of your's. Thank you for sharing it with us. 😊
Thank you so much 😀
