Some producer in america thought Super Sentai looked cool, but figured american audience was too close minded for a show featuring only non-american asian people. So they purchased the rights, kept the suits, robots and monsters, and removed anything japanese: an so Power Rangers was born.
Actually it gets even cooler, Series 3-5 were co produced with Marvel with Stan Lee himself trying to bring the 5th one over to the untied states, his pitch failed and when Haim Saban saw it one of the same executives that heard Stan’s pitch was there for his, leading to the legacy we have today

I mean the biggest criticism people familiar with Sentai had with Samurai was how much it was a copy paste of the original
Only it made no sense when they tried to translate the Japanese context regarding families that made the main character plot between the Red Leader and his actual role as a decoy
Other cases where the near complete copy and paste of Gao for Wild Force
Or the annoying over done case for the White Dino in Dino Thunder since in Sentai he was the main villain for most of the series so White Ranger translations between Good to Bad and back to Good like 5 times

Super Sentai started in 1975; Power Ranger's started in 1993 with Zyu-Ranger

"How did Power Rangers get away with it Bruh," Okay. Bit of a history lesson. Haim Saban formed Saban Entertainment, he saw the potential for entertainment and toy sales from Japanese Live Action Special Effects Shows as an untapped Market in the West. Decades Earlier, during Black & White broadcasting era the Live Action Special Effects show Giant Robo was dubbed and released stateside as Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot, it had a mixed but memorable reception but in the 80's and 90's Saban had an idea. He would buy the License to only PART of the footage of the Annual Super Sentai series and dub it alongside additional reshoots. The rebranded and repackaged product of Power Rangers did VERY well in the west. For several seasons instead of following the Japanese model of each series being a new team he made a long form contiguous story until eventually each team became an independent entity in later iterations.
Some series were ENTIRELY different from their source material. Some, involved a ton of shot for shot remakes in their out of costume scenes. Cosmic Fury is the first to do their own thing entirely, only shooting ten episodes using entirely original suits and only borrowing the mecha/vehicles from the Kyuranger series...which is sad because that was a fun looking space show with tons of aliens and robots among the assorted members of that large heroic cast.

There was "Super Sentai" before there was "Power Rangers", and Power Rangers only started with the 16th part of Super Sentai.

Also to clarify, power rangers is an adaptation of super sentai. The corresponding seasons use the same suits, mech/zord design, and transformation devices, but generally the stories and characters are very different compared to their sentai counterpart. It's worth checking out the sentai version of your fav seasons to see how they differ, as well as checking out some seasons that haven't been adapted!

"Is Kamen Rider it's own separate deal? Or are they in the same universe? I dunno," there have been several Super Sentai Kamen Rider crossovers in specials or movies. Kaizoku Sentai GoKaiger crossed over with Kamen Rider Fourz for example. In which GoKai Red, Captain Marvelous, demanded Kamen Rider Fourz's greatest treasure at gunpoint when they first met. Fourz declared his greatest treasure was friendship, which he freely offered.
Their own universes and all crossovers between them are non-canon and do not affect them in anyway
Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are officially separate universes, the crossovers between them only due to time travel and dimension hopping shenanigans like with Decade and Shinkenger.
The first crossover was when Decade's journey extended into the world of Shinkenger (gogo samurai).
The most prevalent being Den-O since the trains go through time and dimensions
This is also the case with ToQuger whose train led them to Gaim’s world for in series episode that led to the crossover/anniversary film
The crossover you're referring to is the movie Super Hero Taisen. It was an overall story of the Super Sentai and Kamen Riders wiping each other out, with Gokai Red and Decade initiating the war. (Yes, I am simplifying to not spoil the full plot.) There is even a little historical reference about the two series co-existence thrown in.
The two series are currently broadcast back to back in Japan on Sunday mornings.

Fun fact, as you noticed, the third season, Battle Fever J, has the first megazord/mecha of the entire franchise.
The reason is that around the time that the season was being developed, Marvel and Toei (the company behind Super Sentai and Kamen Rider) brought Spider-Man to Japan in the form of Supaidaman and his transforming giant robot: Leopardon.
Leopardon was created to appeal to Japanese kids, especially through the transforming toy, which saw a lot of success. After seeing how much kids loved Leopardon, Toei decided to include mechas in Super Sentai.
Something interesting to note, Super Sentai pretty much always had a special crossover between a older series with the current one, that was a thing even way back with Himitsu Sentai Goranger and J.A.K.Q in 78
It’s also aided by the fact they can consistently bring quite a number of actors/actresses back for cameos or full blown returns
This being largely cause unlike PR the actors and actresses are full legit ones with careers usually already started or beginning by SS
Unlike PR that filmed between America and New Zealand and because most were in Unions

To put it simply Power Rangers is an adaptation of Super Sentai for western audiences and PR uses suits and fight scenes from SS sometimes PR would shoot original fight footage and have original suits also some story lines from SS seasons are completely adapted or not used at all the only thing PR and SS have truly in common are suit designs and some fight scenes that’s it

Toei tells Inoue to do Donbros as freely as possible and prohibited him from watching Zenkaiger (hence why Zenkaiser Black never has a plot)
Don Brothers is more of a Slice of Life Live Action Anime disguised as a Sentai.
You have to remember, power ranger uses stock footage of these shows hence forth this is the original source of the power rangers

Power rangers is a adaption of the Super Sentai. All suits, mechs and toys (mostly all of them) came from Super sentai. They don't call them zords since they all different names.

Kamen Rider and Super Sentai shared the same continuity.
They ocassionally collab, sometimes involving "dimension", indicating they're from seperate universe, but sometimes they just randomly bumped into each others out in the street, indicating fhat they're sharing the same universe. So it's been inconsistant.
But that's not a problem, since some sentai literally have settings on different dimension than other sentai. The same goes for kamen rider.

Zyuranger, Dairanger and Kakuranger are what became the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series
Season 1 was just basically taking Zyuranger action scenes and making up stories to tell with those action scenes and done pretty sloppily in the early episodes
Season 2 took the Dairanger monsters, megazords and white ranger but kept the main 5 zyuranger suits and replaced the dairanger action fight scenes with new american scenes with zyuranger suits
Season 3 took the Kakuranger monsters, megazords and Ninjor, plus a few of their main villains. Again shot new scenes with the zyuranger suits. The Kakuranger costumes made it into the show as the Alien Rangers
after that they just went back to the season 1 method but with more consistent execution
Saban licensed the Suits and footage of sentai to make power rangers starting with zyuranger for mighty morphin power rangers till ryusoulger for dinofury
"Is sentai connected to kamen rider?" Not explicitly, but they do have semi-frequent crossovers. The super hero taisen movies, super hero senki, and the upcoming rider summer movie that features Gotchard and Boonboomger, the current seasons of both shows. Shinkenger (The show that was adapted into PR Samurai) was also featured in a couple episodes of Kamen Rider Decade, since they were airing at the same time.
A good way to look at it is to say that Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are sibling series since they share the same creator. With Rider being the older brother with a bit more of an edge to it. While Sentai is generally the more lighthearted younger brother.

19:40 Haim Saban got permission from Toei to adapt Super Sentai seasons into Power Rangers. In the 80s, Saban was going Choudenshi Bioman (8th Super Sentai) and filmed a pilot episode of Bio-Man, but American broadcasters didn't like the idea.
But he later tried again with Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger (16th Super Sentai) and that became Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1.
Almost the whole show of Power rangers Samurai is like a one to one with Shinkenger 😂 it's crazy watching them back to back

So basically, back then visual effects weren’t really as great as compared to modern day, so for the Gorengers, Big One (the white suited member of JAKQ) and Kamen Riders 1-Skyrider they used cuts in the footage to convey a transformation (in the case of the Kamen Riders most of the time the main character would say their transformation trigger phrase while doing an elaborate action pose, then footage of the belt would be spliced in before cutting to the character in their costume)

In fact, most power rangers use the super sentai footage, especially the fight scene footages. I watched gao ranger and it’s power ranger variant, wild force. Power rangers only made the scenes where the actors weren’t in the costume, saving budget by using the Japanese footage. In a way I think it’s unfair that super sentai isn’t as we’ll represented in the U.S.

Weird how he only recognized very specific Power Rangers seasons; barely recognized Mighty Morphin’, and immediately recognized Dino Thunder, Jungle Fury, and Samurai, but nothing else. And also, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are actually conected! They where created by the same person, master mangaka Shotaro Ishinomori who created the original desings and worked in both series. There's a couple crossover movies between them, mostly in series of movies called Super Hero Taisen

Bro Power Rangers isn't just Based on Super Sentai, they also get most if not all of their suits from it. That includes Rangers, monsters, robots, the works. A lot of the fight scenes you see in Power Rangers are actually just straight up Sentai footage.
