- a POLL just surfaced at the Spectrum Next Facebook Group asking folks if they would be interested in a KS#3.
You can find the link at
/ specnext
Make sure to vote so head on over there!
But, LET US CHAT about this subject.
Will YOU buy one if they make a Kickstarter #3?
I explain in the video what I would do.
My Patreon is here for those that enjoy what I do here on UA-cam and wish to support my channel. For a small monthly fee, it helps keep the lights on here at the channel for me to make more content.
I THANK YOU for the support.

I missed the boat on the first 2. I'd love the chance to buy a new one without paying stupid eBay prices. I also think if the community is going to thrive it needs to grow. It can't grow if there's a closed system of units that are just passed around via 3rd parties.
I also agree that asking a group of people who have one or more isn't the best pulse check.
So, there's 67% saying yes, essentially. I don't have one, so I'd be in.
you can buy a ks2 un opened or opened to check its not one of the duff keyboard batch for 400 to 450 off the group you see them on there for a while before they sell
I’m happy with my KS2. A like for like 3 is a maybe, but it’d be a solid yes if there is added value with a new KS like branded peripherals. A clear case, unsure if that’d clinch it, but it’s novel so maybe. They could do a KS for branded accessories instead, hooking up with existing suppliers to create accompanying merch. I’d jump at a mouse, joypad/joystick, cover, mousemat, sd card as a sexy liveried bundle.
I think a KS3 with KB and case colour options. Black with blue keys as an issue 2 homage. White, black, or clear with choice of black, white, blue or clear keys.
Just colour options management no engineering changes.

Idea two.
Potable with laptop style screen and colour backlit per key KB, with programmable option to light individual keys for incorporation into games.
The Spectrum Next is my absolute favorite retro computer, along with my restored Amiga 1200. But I am not a collector, I use my machines. I play them, I program them, and one Spectrum Next is plenty. The KS3 is for those folks who don't yet have one. I would not consider buying another one for new aesthetics, even for new features. They pretty much nailed it with the KS2 version.
I'm a KS2 Next owner, and I'd love to think more people could get a chance to own one, it's not disappointed me! I don't think they should have to change anything about the hardware, just get it to "market" faster than the last one ;)
I think I would get one. I have a N-Go I bought new when I found out about the Next and couldn’t get one for quite a while. Then I bought one used but like new a while after that. I don’t even know if it is a KS1 or 2 lol.
I wish you put a link to the poll in the description lol.
@@intellivisiongamer I just added the link to the main group. I forgot to do that. Thanks for the reminder.
I checked on eBay, the price is still twice or three times as high as the Kickstarter price. Based on that there seems to be demand still.
There are way too many new-in-box listings that pop up on Ebay for $1K+ for me not to feel that some of the people saying "no" to a KS3 were trying to profit off the surge in enthusiasm for retro-computers that started during the pandemic and will not see a return if more are produced. I agree with the comment that they should just do another kickstarter and advertise it because there is most definitely an audience who are not members of the FB group.
I would love to be able to afford one 😃. My budget says no 😠😧
I think that's a bit of an issue. There's probably lots of other people who would say yes because they don't own one. But they are not part of the group like myself since we don't own one.
I voted.. YES! But I passed on KS2, and didn't even know about KS1 until way too late... So if they do another, I will definitely buy one.. if not, I will be happy with my N-Go.
If people want it then sure but I got an N-GO which is a Spectrum Next clone with a better quality keyboard and almost half the price and it uses the same firmware. but if people want the real thing, why not.
Would be great if you could buy the printed Next manual separately, like with the Mega65. I’ve got the N-Go and the biggest incentive to get the KS3 is the printed manual. Not sure if worth $400 or thereabouts, tho.
I have an N-Go too and I have a ring bound printed version of the Next manual. I found a place online that printed it A4 size (larger than the original) and ringbound it. Cost £20 and was well worth it!
Did you have time to checkout the ADTH ATSC 3.0 box. Waiting for your full review.
I did not and will not be able to. I added a note in the description the other day I had to return mine and have decided not to get a 2nd one. So no, there will not be an in-depth review from me as I returned it to Amazon.
I don't use FaceAche. But I would like another.
If the Next was more comparable to a Rasberry Pie, price-wise it would do a lot better. Considering what a pie can acheieve with emulation. At least for generic Spectrum titles.
Maybe is the ks3 had a bigger core comparable to say the mega65 or something, extended sound capabilities maybe? Like an evolution from the 48k to the 128 etc
I'm not part of that group because I missed out on both kickstarters. Otherwise, I would have voted yes.
Considering no one can even sell a ks2 for 450 which is pretty much cost after inflation then who is going to buy the ks3
I just voted and the yays are at 69%... nice. 😂
@@TheAtomicCrusher lol
I think I'll pass this time. I voted NO. I'm happy with my KS1 and KS2 speccies.
They should just build and sell the things. I was on the second kickstarter and it went on for so many years that it kinda killed all the enthusiasm I had bu the time I finally received mine.
Pol link?
The poll is on the SpecNext Facebook Group. YT does not like links.
Need to get the price down
Why don't they do a TiMEX2048 clone...just for something different !!
Having a kickstarter to make a ZX Spectrum next #3 , that is exactly the same as a Next #2 ?? What is the point !!
To make more and make the Next community larger, more folks maybe developing. Lots of $$ goes into making these so they may not care much for a Timex as example and prefer a Next. Sure we can make all sorts of options but it takes someone and a team with desire to make it happen. That is why the Next happened. They may be coming to the end of the desire to go past Next or make something else as they did what they wanted.
I skipped KS2. I have a board only and a fully accelerated from KS1. I wish I had backed KS2, but I didn't. There is at least one alternate core (in beta) where the larger FPGA has allowed more functionality for a KS2.
So there's no changes in the specification ?? Sounds like a SCAM !!
better to be fast. zx entusiasts are aging. maybe a keyboard only kickstart.... plenty of boards out there but not good keyboards
They are going to lose out now due to the new retro Spectrum coming out
Id back it for no other reason than its a next and I'm pretty sure many others would to!
The question is an appetite to who? The existing user base or those who missed out the last two times?
However existing users buying, that doesnt really help the community. What's needed is fresh users not existing ones storing up unused systems. That doesnt help the developers of games and doesnt keep the system alive and fresh.
If the team were given time to finish any updates to the core would that help and there are several decent games in the pipeline plus the new Next Magazine...
I wonder how many units they would they need to sell for it to be classed as a success for KS3? IIRC the first kickstarter was 3,500 units.
only time will tell
Definately needs white one as an option!
and a joypad mouse and dust cover thats an instant buy!
