Your video was so simple, however, when I make the chapter title and then add the table of contents on a blank page it keeps saying Start by adding a style from the gallery, but I have done that already! Even updated the TOC and it still says that. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you. But I did. I followed exactly what you said. Highlighted the Chapter title, went to references to add the TOC to a blank page and get that notice. Do I have to do all the titles first before it will populate?@@thelifeofawriter
I figured it out. This is an ebook for Kindle. They require it be a heading not a chapter title. I did what it said, and BAM. But you really got me to where I needed to be to accomplish it. Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving.@@thelifeofawriter

I want to create a TOC for my recipe binder so I can quickly find my recipes. The only way I’ve thought of is to alphabetize it by categories, make tabs for those categories, alphabetize by recipe names within each category, then as I add or remove a recipe, I’ll update it by hand until it’s time to revise and re-print it (say quarterly) in MS Word. Is there an easier way I’m not thinking of? Thanks for any suggestions!
I did exactly what you're saying, but my TOC "dotted line" runs past the page margin and puts the page number of every chapter underneath the chapter title. (*I also have a chapter numeral above the chapter title for every chapter. I put the numeral and title both on the 'chapter title' style - don't know if this is a problem?). Any suggestions? I would gladly pay someone to do this! I finished writing the book long ago, but the formatting issues are bogging me down. Maybe it's my dated computer and Word 10 that is the problem...
@@thelifeofawriter yes. I finally found a video (Leon Renner) about what to do if your TOC isn't behaving that showed some hidden features to access more hidden snares in more layers of Word! (That program is evil! lol) Finally got my page numbers to align on the margin! Thank you for replying!

You'll need to add a style to the chapter title you created.

Word does not show "Chapter Title" as an option, after following these directions the TOC failed to populate also
