Tips:
1. Learn to empathize. It takes a people person to empathize with someone. Empathy is when you put yourself in their shoes. You feel what they feel from their perspective.
2. Avoid robot responses. Give a little more substance when answering questions and be honest. Try and be relatable. When someone asks “how are you?” You can tell them the truth and go into some depth. This will make you relatable. Just remember to be honest and try to put a positive spin on it.
3. Ask, don’t tell. Don’t sell yourself by telling people about yourself. Ask people about themselves and they’ll want to be around you.
4. Be quiet and listen. You need to be present when you’re listening to people speak. Don’t think about what you’re going to say next when you’re listening. Just be present and listen. Stay in the moment. You need to get this down if you want to be a people person. Reflect back the emotion.
5. Watch your tone. Your tone is SO important for conveying meaning. Your tone conveys just as much information as what you say.
The number one thing we can do is practice self-awareness.
Try and spend more time with someone who is a people person.
Great video. Thank you!
I love your delivery. No screeching. No high pitch yelling and eloquent and timely
Chic Stiletto yea she’s so classy
I left my 32 year nursing career in 2019. Good communication skills and really listening to people actually won me awards for customer service…my patients loved me and I was confident in that role. Coming out of the pandemic, I feel like I somehow lost my people skills. I have to catch myself in moments when I don’t feel like I’m being a good listener anymore and I have to stop myself from interrupting people. The social isolation left me just wanting to talk to anyone that will listen 😂 You are so right about this ability being a muscle. I’m “toning up” now by watching your videos. Thanks for putting these out here.
I love how you summed up all the tips with the idea of "leave people better than you found them." I intend to keep that in my mind. Have you known anyone who makes every person who they know feel as if they are the most important person to them? I have a friend who is just that way. As an example, I noticed when I arrived at her home for a party, she greeted me as if she had been waiting for me, especially, to arrive. I felt so welcome and special. As I mingled, I noticed she greeted each guest in that same way. Anytime I see her, even by chance out shopping, etc., she makes me feel that I made HER day. Needless to say, she is well loved by many people.
Bless her. Yes, I have met 3 individuals in my life who are just like that. Everyone adores them and for good reason.
I'm very introverted . And these steps are very helpful. I've been told I come off stuck up do to my robot responses. But in fact I desire to have more people skills. I just get anxious I'm hard on my self. I feel like I'll sound dumb. You have a new subcriber.
Welcome! Thank you for subscribing. Please feel free to poke around my video library for more videos like this! Enjoy your Sunday!
I feel the same way!
That's how I feel too. People say I'm aloof but in reality I'm anxious.
This is a tricky one for me personally. When it comes to strangers and acquaintances, I dislike small talk. I rarely engage with it.
More videos like this Tracy PLEASE! How to be sociable, more likable, develop charisma...
Thank you for all the wonderful videos!
Thank you! God Bless!
tirtunemdouq I fully agree more videos please🤗🤗🤗
I work with a large group of people in a stressful environment (nurse in ER). I have always been a people person, but the environment brings out the very worst in people. I go through my day trying to remain positive but there are so many people who are negative,it can be hard to remain positive. I try to walk away when someone goes off but I have to remain in the environment. I find myself losing control of my temper. I have yelled in situation that people are pushing so hard. I really want to be a classy person. I enjoy your videos, I hope I can learn to always stay in control even when everything is out of control around me.
Awesomeness! Judge Judy said it best, “there’s a reason we have two ears and one mouth!” Be quiet and listen! Exercise that discipline. You’re right! Diva T.
I can see right away when someone starts to glaze over when I’m talking to them. That’s my cue to say “oh I don’t want to keep you too long” 😊 I love your videos. They always make me think more deeply. 🤔
Filming With ME - Media Enthusiast Yes, I have learned to literally stop 🛑 talking. 😆.
PHD in Me TV right? I think my husband and I have this conversation at least once a week. It’s probably something I’ll always have to work at.
Will you do a video on public speaking skills?
IM SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR VIDEOS.YOU ARE NOT ONLY BEAUTIFUL,BUT YOU ARE CLASSY AND SASSY.I STRUGGLED WITH SELF CONFIDENCE FOR YEARS AND HAVE FINALLY FOUND A COMFORTABLE PLACE,BUT SINCE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS I AM EXCITED TO LEARN I CAN GO EVEN FURTHER.EXCITED TO LEARN MORE FROM YOU!
I’d like to know how to, at a gathering, gracefully break away from a conversation when it seems like the conversation has petered out, especially with someone you don’t know very well.
Wonderful refresher. I knew this but it's easy to slip into bad habits😉
About tip 3. Some people ask a person something about them only as a lead in to talk about themselves. Not cool 😎. Thanks for sharing Tracy!
Clear Voice Sweet and Marvellous Contants!
& Clap for your positive guidance.
$ You made an interactive conversation throughout the clip.
I once saw a tee shirt that read " I used to be a people person, then people ruined it." 🤣 Love your content Tracy.
Yep, that's GREAT!! Other's can be our best reminders and teachers of what not to DO & SAY! Have a GREAT weekend!
i really appreciate your video alot…. Im a new supervisor and trying my best to motivate my employees and understand the balance on how i talk to them, motivate them, and still get the work we need done
You're Very Smart Tracy Hansel
Thank you!
What I have learned when working with the public is:
1: Smile ( It must show in your presence and body language ).
2: I have heard the opposite when it comes to people wanting to talk about themselves. If they are in the entertainment industry or have a esteemed career or went to Ivy League college yes they might speak about themselves. With the average Joe or Jane it is a toss up.
3: You have to be interested in other people than yourself.
I am the opposite of talking about myself. I loathe talking about myself and am the ultimate reflector. There is nothing I get more scared of then dinner parties and other social situations...
Thank you for sharing, Darcy! You are not alone. I am sure others can see themselves in this comment.
Hi Tracy, I found your videos today as a suggestion that I may like. I'm so glad I found them and I'll be watching all of them. Brilliant, just what I've been looking for. Thank you!
Tracy ...can u do a video on teenager tantrums and hormones etc how to deal with there anger and negativity... and plz don’t sugar coat it ...seen as tho Uve had experience with 5 girls teenager please I will be very greatful.
7861hotcakes What a great suggestion!!! This would be awesome!!!
diannedugan Tracy Hansel, I would be very grateful for you doing a video on teenagers as they change as well. Ugh 😑. It’s rough as my only child son, has two daughters, 15 and 13 1/2. Always lived alone with daughters as mother passed at 3 and 4 . I helped constantly when they were grammar school but now even my son is undergoing much stress as he is an electrician and comes home to a mess. They do nothing to help, he’s tried so much but I feel he’s just given up. They just don’t pay any attention to me anymore. Please HELP!! Ty
7861hotcakes ... Oh my goodness! Tracey’s video on how to be thick skinned ... little ladies would benefit from listening to this video. I just watched it and it was so wonderfully in line with hormonal teenage girls! Think of WHY they are acting as such... offer them the tools to manage what they feel. Help them be more thick skinned so they feel less dramatic about the bad and more dramatic about the good. Maybe?
💜 much love mamas. 💜
Yes!! Plzzz do this. I don't have a teenager. But a very stroppy, short tempered 8 year old :(
Any tips would be great. Love your videos :)
Honestly, just being a good listener can be enough in many cases because it IS so rare. Lol
Another great video! Thx!👏👏
Amen to that 👏👏
Lady Bohemia Gotta agree ☝🏿
I am glad I found your videos. Young people need to be educated on manners, etiquette and people skills. Thank you!
I try with people but always come back to loving and being with animals.
You grabbed my attention in the first 7seconds. Very powerful and influencing message. Thank you Ma'am!!!
Hi Tracy, I have found myself at times, interrupting people. My husband especially! I’ve been working more on listening. As a child I’ve picked up on this habit from my Aunt. She only listens to what she what’s to hear! The rest of the time it’s all about her. I didn’t want to be that person. So now I listen more and talk less! It works! Thanks Tracy!❤️😀
Great self-assessment! Keep up the good work!
Exceptional video! Thanks so much!!!
Such insightful and necessary tips! Thank you, once again, Tracy, for gently speaking the truth to us.
I've always wanted help with becoming a people's person. You're a star Tracey!
Ive watched several of your videos in last couple of days and I have to tell you that your hair and lip color in this video is beautiful!😍💋
Great tips, great voice, thanks for sharing.
All your videos offer invaluable advice. I always look forward to watching your videos. I'm glad that I got to watch this one early in the day. Great star to the day. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you Rita! I appreciate your wonderful messages more than I can express. Have a wonderful weekend, as well.
Great advice. I see that I am in need of more listening and less wheels turning. I will really give this attention. 🌻
A great reminder to be your best and focus on others 💫
Thank you, Tracy. One thing I recently heard is that people may forget what you say, but they will not forget how you made them feel. I thought that was eye opening, too. Love your channel and always look forward to seeing your posts. Be blessed...
Great points; every one of them!! I used to be the person in the room whose conversation volume was too loud. I had no idea until someone told me. Lol.
I'm furious at youtube for demonetizing and de-platforming some of the conservative channels on here but I'm smart enough to know not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'm not going to let that wrongful activity get in the way of the channels I love, like this one, that luckily aren't a victim of the unfair and unwarranted censorship.
Glad you were made aware of your voice tone. As for UA-cam, I am unaware of the issue. Interesting, however. I watch very little UA-cam and as a result, don't know much about it. Thanks for sharing the news.
Thank you for this. I'm trying to combat my anxiety with my job. I'm a fairly new nurse and I'm trying to learn each doctor's way of things. Thank you so much
Hi Crystal! Give it time. Don't be intimidated by the more seasoned nurses. Obviously they have more experience and also, don't let impatient doctors get you down. They mean no harm. Trust the process! God Bless! You are a blessing and making a difference in people's lives every day in your profession. Nurse's deserve so much respect for what they do!
I love the way you think. I wish more people were like you.
Agree With All The Words And Great Sensitive, Obedience And Lovely Words
I watched this video before a zoom call with a friend to see if I could put into practice your advice, and she later texted me saying that she really enjoyed the chat (obviously I had not told her I was practicing)- thanks Tracy!
Love it! Thank you for sharing! Keep up the great work!
This was so helpful not only for myself but I sent it to my mom as well.
Thank you, Tracy! Great video as always! :)
Thank you for this excellent video. I think you should teach a course like this to junior high school students. It would be a great way to help them develop these valuable people skills going forward into life. This information will benefit them in school, in their first jobs, in all their relationships and conversations with peers, family members and in all social situations. Unfortunately today, society can be very "all about me" and your approach enourages them to communicate in a positive, inclusive manner.
Thank you Joan! I appreciate it! Have a fantastic weekend! God Bless!
Traci thanks for all your content..I'm a mom of 3 and it can be a struggle for me to break out of mommy mode attire..can you do a video on how to start to style yourself if you are just new at it thank you!
Hi Ms. Tracy! You are so beautiful and just amazing! I'm so happy to have found you. Thank you so much for making videos that women of all ages need. I am an introvert :\ I don't enjoy being around people, I think mainly because I take on too much and see people as added work/stress. I am empathetic and naturally do many of the things you teach but I struggle with stress and depression. My husband on the other hand LOVES to be around people. I have only watched three of your videos so far but I'm learning much already and look forward to learning more from you. "Ownership" is a huge goal for me this year. I think you are a Godsend. Blessings to you!
Thank you Rebecca! I wish you much success in achieving your goal! Have a GREAT week!
Can't wait for the online workshop! I haven't been able to tune it with all the kids home this summer. 😢
Great video:)) can you do one about how to overcome disappointments in life and how to trust people again, especially family members/close friends etc...basically about how so start over:)? I'll really appreciate it😍😍xoxo have a nice weekend
Love this! Wow I enjoy watching and listening 👂 to these videos- every year is highly recommended!!! I know I need this; sometimes my mind is closed off and I don’t want to better myself quite yet... mistake I know but I’m happy that now I’m listening in full Bloom! Thx Tracy much luv🌻
Great video! Lots of food for thought and reflection! Happy 4th of July as well 😊❤️
Miss Tracy!
You are such a class act! I LOVE your videos and learning how to be the best version of myself. My mother was very skilled with teaching my sisters and myself how to be well spoken and well behaved, but I have learned a lot from you. Cheers!
Thank you Julia!
love the ending song. Love your intelligence you are amazing thank you for giving me confidence mom
All of these suggestions are so helpful to me. I always feel like I need room for improvement--and these tips are just the way for me to start.
Great video sunshine thank you! I do all of these naturally lol as I work in hospitality but this is a great way to self assess and help others! Love your hair by the way xo
I have Asperger's and it's hard for me to read people or understand where they come from, I am also introverted and have social anxiety. Some describe me as distant, cold hearted, rude, disrespectful, awkward.
I'm gonna try and practice these tips and I appreciate you alot for sharing this.
Thank you Tracy for these wonderful tips...so true too..
Thank you so much! I was always wondering how I can make my mother feel better whenever we have a conversation. The listening part is easy... but I love your tip on reflecting back the emotion of the person! I think that is what I am definitely missing. Most times I am left figuring what my mother feels, and I when I do I don't really reflect that back.
Great video Tracy. I can’t wait for the course.
Thank you coach Tracy, better than any other Ted talk on this topic.
Thank you!
Tracy you are such an inspiration. I will be relocating to Texas from Europe next year and I have some anxiety about the people side of it. There is such a cultural difference between people and I’m afraid I will be out of place. I really do want to make friends so your video is so SO helpful!
Thank you Lana! I wish you all the best in your move. I would't analyze it too much. People will be drawn to you, as you!
Love this video thank you . Can you help us to put together a wardrobe ahead of time for the next season . Where to buy best times to buy trends for the season etc . Ha ha ha that’s enough for a series of videos .
Wonderful content Tracy. Your channel is so broad based. I enjoy all of your videos and look forward each and every one. I would love one on handling teenage low energy, attitude and moodiness. Looking forward to your class!
Thanking you once again for the tips!
Thank you so much, Tracy, for sharing your thoughts and ideas. You’re spectacular!
Thank you! Blessings!
Super! You articulated this so well!!
Thank you!
WOW. I was waiting for this. What a great video Tracy. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thanks a lot Tracy, I love the way you carry your self with all the due respect and dignity! It all motivates me to being what you teach about,
and with matter related to personal skills, you overwhelm me!
I appreciate you and your videos so much! I struggle with social anxiety and your videos help me a lot.

I totally agree with all the points you made Tracy, good reminders!
I have always wanted to be more popular and these tips have really helped! Thanks, Trish
Yes managing emotions is super important! Great tips!! 👍
Thank you Tracy. Have a blessed week. Cindy 🌻💗💗
Thank you Cindy! You, as well!
Awesome content! Have some homework to do now....
Great stuff. How do we empathize without taking on the negative energy of that feeling? I feel so drained. I may be more sensitive to energy?
Good assessment, Angi! There is a good chance you are. Don't stick around long enough to feel a person's negative energy. Say what you need to say to show empathy and move on to the next topic. Some people we just have to set up boundaries with. But that does not mean that we cannot have a good relationship with them.
Thank you! My goal is to stop the robot response: "I'm fine"
Thank you great advice!!!
One can’t stop from judging others no matter what they tell themselves!
you're so wise, thank you
I subscribed to you Tracy just yesterday in fact, and I must say I really like you! You are the epitome of a real classy lady! Also, I think you’re very pretty, by the way! God bless you and I’m looking forward to listening to your videos and learn from them as well!!!🙏🏼🌹
Welcome and thank you Diana! Bless you!
I’m a business development coach and I directed my team to this video. Such good tips!
Thank you Lisa! Bless you!
Tracy Hensel and I don’t guide my team to things I haven’t had to work on myself so great reminder for me as well. I’ve shared your videos so much. I find so much value in them.
Came across this channel. Thank you. I needed to hear this. I have a friend that’s so absorbed in herself/ family that makes me ill. Needless to say, don’t hang around with her anymore. (It’s ok)
Hay Tracy your videos are so inspiring.. what day is your dreamer/do video coming? Your are such a classy lady I have learnt so much from you thank you x
Thank you! That video will be out next Wednesday! Enjoy your weekend!
Another great video :) Thank you Tracy!
Thank you for these videos! These are tricks and trates we all should hone more consciously. I applaud your passion to educate and advocate so eloquently.
Thank you!
Great info, suggestions, help, as usual, thank you!!!
Damn I thought the second " I can't believe YOU did that" was more of a compliment, like you are so great, you achieved, what's wrong with me 😳
It depends on the context. I can not tell you what is wrong with you, if anything. We could certainly work on that through coaching.
Very helpful. Thanks.
Great Tips!!
Needed this one, Thank you.
Wonderful tips!
Very good advice. I need practice
Thanks for this video! I appreciate it!
It was really good for me to listen to this...❤️
