Learned on these in 80s friction crane s were being phased out in 90s . Setting steel in winds was fun...no house brake.

MY DECEASED FATHER USED TO RUN REPAIR OWN AND MANAGE MACHINES LIKE THIS BUT MUCH LARGER. 165 TONS UP TO SKY-HORSE WITH THE BLEND OF MANITOWOC.THESE MACHINES HAS PUT OUT THE VERY BEST OPERATORS. THEY HARDLY HAVE MEN TO RUN THESE CRANES ......IF YOU TAKE AN OPERATOR RUNNING A DEMAG OR ANY JOY-STICK MACHINE .......CHANCES ARE ........ HE PROBABLY CAN'T MAKE AN 8 HOUR DAY WORK.... SIMPLY BECAUSE HE DOES
"" NOT "" KNOW HOW TO HANDLE ""FREE-FALL / AIR CONTROL CRANES""...... BECAUSE THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD HAS GONE STRICTLY HYDRAULIC. ALL THE CRANES TODAY ARE LIKE A DAMN WINCH......... BACK THEN THERE WAS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TELESCOPIC AND LATTICE BOOM......TODAY THEY ARE ALL ONE BIG WINCH...
