  • This is a movie that has lived in my heart for many, many years. It's a weird experience. It's a very personal favorite I rarely recommend but I think it's worth talking about. Have you ever watched it?

I always took the ending as the Demon promised her she can be with him, but she would have to kill. During the exorcism that actually didn't do anything, as the Demon left because it was done with her and is no use to him anymore. So when she escapes the hospital and finds out the parents are of the girl she killed.
She took that a sign by the Demon so she cuts their heads off and takes them to the furnace as a gift to the Demon, like before but this time the Demon doesn't show up leaving her meaningless, her realising at the end that it lied to her to begin with and had no intentions of her being with the Demon 😀

I thought you had it pretty well up until the point where you suggest the dark figure was a representation of her loneliness. I think it really is as simple as no one else was there for her so the devil welcomed her. She served her purpose by murdering all the "c words" and was no longer needed or was unable to return because of the exorcism, but just my opinion. If the dark figure was a representation of her lonliness then it would've never left because she remained lonely at the end.

    This movie was criminally overlooked.

i saw this video a while back ago and i want you to know it really sat with me. you helped crystalize and verbalize an issue ive had with precisely sticking around someone bad for me, because i wanted the companionship.

Seriously! The twist was great. I didn't see it coming. But watching the film a second time, there are several clues scattered throughout. Great movie.

She killed the only people who might have cared about her at the end :(

There are jump-scare horror movies and there are slasher horror movies. And these two types of horror films often overlap. The third type of horror movie is the cerebral horror. This is the type of horror that the black coats daughter is. It attempts to scare you through atmosphere and more cerebral elements as opposed to the former two types of horror movies I mentioned. I'm not sure this movie does the best job of being a cerebral horror movie, but it certainly isn't a bad movie. I equate this type of film to films like sinister or The shining or the ring.
