I don’t want to insult your intelligence but I have worked for telecom companies before and there is no way they can really block all the scam calls. Especially when scammers keep using number spoofing to change their number over and over again. Really these call blocking apps only combat the issue and don’t really erase it from happening. Phone systems have improved a lot over the years but they aren’t as advanced as you think. There is a reason why everyone gets these calls even the people who work for the phone companies get these calls.
@Sea Pool The reason why you can’t call the number back is that they are using a number spoofing software that changes their caller Id to whatever they want. So the number you see on your phone isn’t really the number they called from. Sometimes they accidentally use an active number when they spoof and you call the number back and you get some 16 year old high school girl who has no idea why someone keeps calling her about making scam calls.
I used to get calls every single minute - literally. After following the advice on this video I only get scammed called once every 10 days or so and even that one is always caught by my blocker app. It’s like they don’t know I exist!!!

If you weren't on my contacts list, you couldn't call me, text me nor leave me a message. That's the feature I want back. If whoever was calling was legit and I didn't have them on my phone, they just emailed me. I, of course, would then update my contact list with the person or company in question, if necessary. Everything is paperless these days, anyway. Important folks always had my email. The rest were blocked as spam. Of course, sadly, these cell phone companies couldn't make $1-$4 a month by offering that feature, so I have no expectation on it being brought back to their respective users.

That's how you get those unwanted calls in the first place :) The best do-not-call-app is to call your Congress critter and urge that mofo to pass legislature that will heavily fine any telemarketing company that uses automation to annoy people.
I have a landline, no cell phone. I am on the Do Not Call List, and it is completely ignored by many companies. My phone rings several times a day with a variety of businesses selling something. Blocking numbers doesn't work well as they use so many different numbers. I usually just lift the receiver and drop it again when one comes through. Seems I get more when I am on the computer for some reason.
How about putting all the people you know in your phone book and when the phone rings, it shows a name rather than a phone number. If the phone number appears, let it go to voicemail. If it is important, they caller will leave a message and you can call them right back. Most telemarketers will not leave a voicemail.
Can confirm. Been on this list myself since 2003. I have since had to set up a fake voicemail greeting which tells telemarketers my line has been disconnected and is no longer in service.😈
I had a scammer threat to call Interpol over my assault on him. I used to be a drill and ceremonies instructor. (Sargent ) and I could be herd 3 blocks away. I baited the caller. And screamed loud then later got called by other callers and told that they called Interpol. Go figure. Tks Fer real cure for the trouble.
The best solution to this problem would be a 'whitelist' only approach. Only those on your whitelist can call you. All other numbers are automatically blocked. It's going to have to come to this because of the robo, telemarketer, scammer being able to spoof their phone number. Because of spoofing, no application will or can EVER WORK. The federal 'Do Not Call' program is totally useless and so are all the ones ThioJoe mentions. So basically someone has to invent the 'whitelist phone' to stop this spam calling dead in its tracks.
2 days ago someone from Switzerland (I'm from Germany) call me to tell "how he can make my computer hyper fast!" It was obviously a scam, so I blocked him the next day someone called and it was the same guy so I hope you method works.
That electronic 3 tone you get with the message "this number is no longer in service " I have that on my answering machine and let my friends know. When the auto dialer hears the tone it thinks it’s a bad number and deletes it It’s been on a month and gone from at least 10 a day down to 2 - 4 . I expect it to keep dropping
Are robocalls really a problem in the US? I live in Germany where we don't have them. They are illegal here and I can't imagine why a country doesn't ban such a practise.
If your not religious with the call block feature! It's horrible! My mother gets 4 to six calls an hour every hour everyday! I try to run her block when I visit but am developing arthritis from the list in her phone!
Checked the Do Not Call Registry sent the email and it's been over a week and no reply! So SCREW THEM ! The easiest thing is just do NOT answer the phone!
Check out you mail it allows you to block numbers and answer them with tones as if your phone was been disconnected and no longer in service. It syncs your call list and blocked numbers too. Also has a smart greeting to personaly welcome your contacts "Hello subscribers, @This Joe is not available, please leave a message..." has alot more features, so check it out.
If you have an iphone running ios13 or higher, you can silence unknown callers. Works really well at blocking all the robocalls. Just make you have the contacts of the people you’re expecting to call you. And if you’re expecting a call from a random #, you can just turn it off. Unfortunately, it doesn’t prevent the blocked calls from going into voicemail. You can find it at: Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers
In the USA there is a list of cell phone numbers, nursing home rooms and hospital rooms. Telemarketers are required to check this list since all cell phone numbers, by default are on the do not call list. $500 to the receiver of the call if you are able to identify the caller, good luck with that.
My biggest problem with the number neighbor scam calls is most people in the immediate are of where I live have the same area code and 3 following digits so its very hard to protect from that without blocking people who actually might be trying to call me
I found that a trick they have (the spamers) it to call twice in a few seconds. the first one gets blocked and while your app, (mine was Mr. Number) is busy blocking the first number, they get past with the second call. Now I see Mr number want me to pay for their services, no more FREE there, I am switching to HIYA now.
Thankfully their trick doesn’t work on a landline blocker, but I’m glad you’ve explained the mystery of why I’ve seen their blocked calls show up frequently in such a short spell.
Thanks for this information! It's very useful. One good trick is to answer the call and not talk. Usually they will hang off the phone and remove your number from their list.
Abdullah Alnajim how do you know what they do? It’s not like you get a confirmation letter that you were taken off of their list. Maybe they don’t call back afterwards but you have no saying of knowing for sure what they do after you hang up
I have stopped 99% of spam calls by letting my phone ring 6-1/2 times. Then they get my msg. It's very slow and lasts as long as my provider allows, about 90 seconds saying I check my msgs and caller ID several times a day. Msg ends with "Have a nice day and if you want to waste some more time call right back." It is working very well. Went from 20 spam calls a day to about 3 a week. I hate to do it to everyone but, people that know me know I'll call them back even if they only let it ring twice.
Switched from ATT to T-Mobile a couples months ago. Spam calls went from a couple of calls a day to zero spam calls per month. T-Mobile is using an app called Name ID. I think it grabs the ones that get through T-Mobiles first line of defense. I can see the calls stopped by NameID in case they’re legitimate.
I’m on the iOS 13 beta and it allows me to block all unknown callers. If they leave a message you can listen to it and decide if it’s a real call. Also using Verizon Call Filter app. Between the two it has really reduced my spam calls.
Someone needs to design an app that is an auto answer service that requires any number not in your contacts must press a number to ring the phone. I have yet to find an app on any platform that has that an option.
I have my cellphone pretty much covered but my home phone is deluged with spammers and scammers...at least 10 calls a day. I'm going to see if road runner has anything I can make use of! This is driving me CRAZY!
Free call management: 1. If I recognize the caller, I'll answer (or not) 2. If the caller leaves a message (rare) I'll listen to it to see if it legit. 3. If there is no message then obviously the call was not important. 4. My phone is ALWAYS on vibrate I control my phone it does not control me.
My parents constantly get scam calls on the home phone. The phone can block numbers, but it's gotten to the point where 75% of the calls are spam. Also, I'm early again!
You can just change your number annually, or more frequently if needed. My mother has had the same number for decades and gets dozens of crap calls each week. I've had my number for a couple years, but it's seldom used...I go weeks without a single crap call. Changing won't eliminate them, since some are random number dials. Sure would greatly reduce them, for a while depending on how much you use and share your number.
My mom receives about 15 spam calls a day. I convinced her to change her number this week. It did NOT work!!! Within 5 minutes after changing numbers, she got 2 spam calls. 30 minutes later, a spam text. She still gets tons, if not MORE!!! I think it’s an inside job…someone in ATT selling numbers to spammers. It’s crazy!!!
@@chocojavachip I can't explain the difference; but, I've got a number that hasn't rung once in the past two weeks. Not Once! Yes, it is a working number.
Use your mobile phones do not disturb feature only your contacts being heard and robocallers will be kept silent by your phone. Robocallers can call you all day and you won't even know when it's silent to them. Ive tried this and it works.
Perhaps you should READ THE MANUAL for iPhone iOS. Put ALL YOUR NUMBERS IN the contacts list first. Then go and mark the contacts that you want to converse with as “Favorites “ . Then go to cellular or phone in the settings menu. Choose FAVORITES ONLY TO GET THROUGH. The iPhone then COMPLETELY BLOCKS ANY CALLS FROM other than favorites unless you place specific ringtones for the other contacts. This only requires a one time download of SILENCE ringtone from iTunes. Make your default ringtone SILENCE. No moe robo, survey, out of country scams ect. ad nausium .
Hello we in Canada there is a telephone line which is called the National Do Not Call List that protects you from the so-called spammers and it's free thanks and good to you ..
Heres a method that always works for me, you answer the phone and start playing memes and ear rape at full volume, that will tell them that your number is NOT a good number to call and your number will be taken off their lists.
All the calls I'm getting nowadays are VOIP calls from legitimate numbers from all over the country and trying to sell me Medicare advantage plans but you can hear the Indian call center in the background with dozens of people making those calls. I've actually called a few of these number back and gotten people on the other end who don't know what I'm talking about. I let ghen know their numbers are being spoofed and apologize for calling.
I had received multiple call and text with same message from different area codes. Sadly the message prompted sexual products, that sometimes it is exposed accidentally, on presentation, or when you let your kids to play with your device. I am tired of those messages.
I just don't answer the phone unless I know the number in my small contact list. Other than that I'll let the machine pick it up. Let robot talk to robot
Get a phone number belonging to an area code you DON'T live in. If you get a call from that area code you SHOULDN'T answer it because YOU DON'T KNOW ANYONE from that area and it's likely a scam.
Mahalos for all your valuable info Holmes. If I answer unknown call and I was expecting a call the first thing I say is ""Hola" Then if spammer I say "No savvy enggishe! This works for me.
Telecom companies charging for spam blocking is total BS! Talk about a conflict of interest: they already sell your personal data then you pay them to block the resulting calls.
Here is what I do on iOS - in settings under Do Not Disturb I set a schedule from 9am to 6pm (spammer hours) to silence call unless caller is in my contact list. This schedule runs 24/7 and can also be accessed from control center - its the 1/2 moon icon and can quickly be turned on or off. It works pretty well, and I keep my contact list up to date so I can actually answer the calls I want, and know its not a robocall or spam.
This worked for me, i sometimes turn it off so i can mess with them which is fun because i dont have a car and they be telling me I owe money on my car like what.
And there's one free way that works for all cell phones. Turn on do not disturb, ring for contacts only, all the time. If a stranger calls, they get to leave a message. Spammers never bother. So bfd, first time callers get your voicemail.
If your phone has the feature of assigning sound to contacts you call set your default ring to no ring and assign each contact a sound. That way all calls not on your contacts never sound. The phone lights up and records an unanswered call. Just delete it off your history.
"How to Stop 99% of Spam Robocalls"... That's a joke. None of these suggestions work. DNC list doesn't work for obvious reasons. Spam call blocking apps only try to block known spam numbers but don't work. The problem is their spam blocking is based on caller ID. Spammers spoof their numbers and use different ones every time. I've tried both the free and paid versions of Hiya, and Mr Number and they did nothing. I've tried Nomorerobo and it did nothing as well. The only thing that worked for me is setting DND on my iPhone to allow calls from contacts only. Other numbers get sent to voicemail. If anything downloading these apps and giving them access to your phone makes you more of a target for spam calls.
I don't get the idea behind this "neighbor" thing... why would I not suspect receiving a call from a number that looks like my own number? I will know right away that it's not me callng myself from the phone which is receiving the call in the first place... If anything it will make it more suspicious - and so less likely I'll take the call...
If you have Spectrum (land line) phone service, Nomorobo is free. Just have to sign up thru Spectrum. I was getting a lot of calls and. Nomorobo has illuminated virtually all of them. Occasionally the phone will ring once, but the call is terminated at that point.
I have the simplest solution. I just don't answer the phone! If I get a call from a number I don't recognize or expect I JUST DON'T ANSWER IT!!! I hear my ringtone and decline it. PERIOD. DONE.
I am on a real old ATT cell phone plan, and because of that I am not eligible for the ATT call protect, but they will gladly provide the call protect plan if I get out of this very old plan which is only $66.00 a month all the time no matter how many text/data.
Or you could do what my mom does sometimes. (Say "I'll find someone who wants to talk to you.", then put the phone down somewhere.) One time, she did that, and they were still on the phone about an hour later. We were all laughing our asses off. Or say "They're breaking into my house, without an invitation!".
Voice mail is good for numbers that you are expecting but don't know and are not in your contact list: Say that you are getting a 700# crate being shipped to you by Airborne Express. THAT company isn't going to call you to let you know that you have to be at a location to receive the crate --- the person calling will be the truck driver using his personal phone and voice mail is the only contact you will have to talk to him (since his call will be blocked) ....
So I'm getting local phone calls that are spam calls. It's a robot that says a few words then hangs up. It's like 5-10 times a day. The free version hiya isn't working
There is a known issue enabling Hiya on an iPhone. According to the web site, the process is erratic, and it can take anywhere from a few hours to several days for iOS to recognize Hiya.
I just don't answer phone calls anymore. I only answer in these situations: if the number is in my contact list or if I'm expecting a call specifically. Otherwise, I don't answer. These robicalls have gotten really out of hand.

The federal 'Do Not Call' program is totally useless and so are all the ones ThioJoe mentions. So basically someone has to invent the 'whitelist phone' to stop this spam calling dead in its tracks.
This works and scares the caller: (Speak with FORCE and speed) “Operator! TRAP THIS CALL!!”
Jokes on you, I know how to get 100% spam blocks AND lower my monthly bill all while saving myself hours of my life.
Get rid of the phone.
You can find it at:
Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers
In the USA there is a list of cell phone numbers, nursing home rooms and hospital rooms. Telemarketers are required to check this list since all cell phone numbers, by default are on the do not call list. $500 to the receiver of the call if you are able to identify the caller, good luck with that.
My biggest problem with the number neighbor scam calls is most people in the immediate are of where I live have the same area code and 3 following digits so its very hard to protect from that without blocking people who actually might be trying to call me
That's what is happening to me and it's so annoying
Free call management:
1. If I recognize the caller, I'll answer (or not)
2. If the caller leaves a message (rare) I'll listen to it to see if it legit.
3. If there is no message then obviously the call was not important.
4. My phone is ALWAYS on vibrate
I control my phone it does not control me.
My parents constantly get scam calls on the home phone. The phone can block numbers, but it's gotten to the point where 75% of the calls are spam.
Also, I'm early again!
Google pixel phones are incredible at reducing scam calls, but scam text are still an issue
I have a Google pixel and I get like 5 spam calls per day
You can just change your number annually, or more frequently if needed.
Oh yeah, "Do not call list"....
A guy in India reads it off the screen, laughs really hard, and then says, "Sank you for the list."
Hello
we in Canada there is a telephone line
which is called the National Do Not Call List that protects you from the so-called spammers
and it's free thanks and good to you ..
FINALLY. IM EARLY.
Edit: on Samsung you can block scam calls by enabling a setting. It uses hiya and its free
Sadly the message prompted sexual products, that sometimes it is exposed accidentally, on presentation, or
when you let your kids to play with your device. I am tired of those messages.
I use Google's Call Blocker app and white-listed all calls, but sometimes it takes the app 5 seconds to block a call.
What about calls with no number? That should be an easy fix but no one seems to have it in queue.
No need to buy wide protect on android. You can do the same thing with in built phone app.
What about the older generation with a lineland?Att in Us.
The GB version of the 'Do Not Call List' is called the 'Telephone Preference Service' which works the same way.
Mahalos for all your valuable info Holmes. If I answer unknown call and I was expecting a call the first thing I say is ""Hola" Then if spammer I say "No savvy enggishe! This works for me.
Nah, I’m ok. I just pick up the phone and say “To continue your call, please press one”
The Fireman's and Policemen's organization are calling me daily, so glad I found this video.
When I added my number to the no call list all the legit telemarketers stopped and the scammers started calling.
I am keep receiving a chinese robocall about some online gambling. Cant seem to block it.
PERIOD. DONE.
Mr robo has an interesting feature that it records their auto dialer recording. And they also have options for your home or office phones too...
Good info; thank you ! As informative videos should be; packed full of valuable information, and nothing more.
I am on a real old ATT cell phone plan, and because of that I am not eligible for the ATT call protect, but they will gladly provide the call protect plan if I get out of this very old plan which is only $66.00 a month all the time no matter how many text/data.
So on top of my monthly payment to verizon, I should have to pay an additional $6+/mo to not be annoyed with illegal spam calls? Thanks FCC.
Or you could do what my mom does sometimes. (Say "I'll find someone who wants to talk to you.", then put the phone down somewhere.)
One time, she did that, and they were still on the phone about an hour later. We were all laughing our asses off.
Or say "They're breaking into my house, without an invitation!".
Where does Truecaller app lie? Is it like Hiya or Robokiller? Seems to be popular on google play store
Voice mail is good for numbers that you are expecting but don't know and are not in your contact list:
Say that you are getting a 700# crate being shipped to you by Airborne Express.
I answer the phone "Hello, this better not be a telemarketer..." and I hear "Click". If it's a legit call they continue.
Dude everyday I get at least 3 calls around 12. Im blocking every number until there's no numbers left...
Always great research & data -- Thank you!
Do not call registry seems to be useless,my phone rings all day long and I never answer any calls ,I am afraid to do that.
There is a known issue enabling Hiya on an iPhone. According to the web site, the process is erratic, and it can take anywhere from a few hours to several days for iOS to recognize Hiya.
Average 15 robocalls daily, they start at 5:00 a.m . At&t version does nothing paid or unpaid
