For the conditions Nigel was in, this was the best match in his career. To even think about going 25 minutes with KENTA in such pain and still being able to pull out such a great match and make a victory even in this conditions look credible, hell, you just have to be one of the greatest pro wrestler in the world. It's unfortunate that Nigel was never the same after these injuries and ended up retiring so early...
For all the crap every one gave Nigel in his world Title Reign the fact that he fought through a serious concussion Tearing his biceps three times (two of which happened at the same time) and still put on many good matches despite all these things. Everyone has to admit he is one of the toughest wrestlers in history.
Watch the ECW-match Terry Funk vs. Sabu, where Sabu cuts open his whole biceps....takes a tape to fix and goes on.....I guess thats rank1 in toughest wrestler. Or maybe the jump of Sick Nick Mondo from the Building (about 7 meters down) into glass and two tables...and he did another match that evening...
Peter Wild The toughest wrestler ever in that regard I'd say would be Mick Foley. The amount of damage he received just during his HiaC match against Taker in 98 and still continued the match is insane (I believe the total result was a dislocated shoulder, a tooth that came out of his nose, a hole bitten into his lip, a bruised hip and a concussion). And in case of Sabu, I'd say his broken jaw from when he moonsaulted onto the guardrail (and then also proceeded to use tape to fix it) was worse than the flesh wound on his arm. But Nigel was tough as nails for carrying on for such a long time despite those injuries. Other such feats of valor would be Vader and his eyeball, Danielson with his shoulder and his retina, Kawada and Edwards with their broken arms, and for the women, Akira Hokuto with her broken/Injured neck. And to think Sin Cara stopped a match because he dislocated his finger...
***** u are right, I completely forgot about that one....that was Insane also. Compared to Nick Mondos fall from the building through glasses and tables onto the concrete (did go wrong a bit)....not sure, which one is worse, coz both are really very near death.
@@Wurzelknecht Hansen would have dragged him in the ring by his finger and took his head off 😂 weak ass finger dislocation... I got my shoulder bone crushed, a torn labrum and rotator cuff and reverse dislocation from being electrocuted and drove myself across town to the hospital... Sin Cara is a diva 😂
I was front row for this show. Was absolutely convinced KENTA was taking the belt here, absolutely bit the 2.9 count after the G2S. Unreal Nigel was able to have this match with how shot his arms were.
Man, I did not appreciate how good Nigel McGuinness was as a wrestler. Didn't really get into anything outside WWE until 2011. And he's still pretty good as a commentator today.
what a match. ROH, are you able to bring back KENTA? i know he is killing it in NOAH right now as the GHC heavyweight champion, but would be awesome to see him again in ROH sometime.
Punk does the GTS on guys twice his size. So I think Punk is very impressive when he does it. Most of Kenra opponents if not all are small or bellow 240 Ibs.
Yeah Punk adopted it because the Pepsi Plung was too close to the Pedegree and the GTS doesn't require as much set up and can kind of come out of nowhere if need be.
can't say enough about Nigel McGuinness this guy is absolutely awesome love watching him fight in fact I think he's probably the only fighter from the West that I've seen who could even compete with the more skilled skilled and sadistic Japanese wrestlers most of the big muscled Western studs go to Japan get destroyed and have no success good to finally see a real big hot white guy who could beat one of these Japanese Fighters I have seen Kenta beat the crap out of so many white muscle studs previously that it made it particular Suite to finally see a western fighter who could defeat this Japanese tough guy and Kayenta is one of the toughest and more skilled Fighters I've ever seen so kudos 2 mr. Nigel McGuinness and I do mean mister
And now is cleared to possibly get back into the business again, which is something I know a lot of marks want since they missed him doing storylines in ROH a lot, anyways.
If Nigel was a heel champion, why didn't he just take the loss? And why didn't Kenta get him back into the ring? Clearly a botch on Kenta's part that Nigel had to do an incredibly face-like manuveur to keep the match going.
Because not all heels are cowards who take the easy way out. Nigel at this point in time was one of those heels who had a lot of pride in being the best. He was booed because of how much of an asshole he was to everybody.

It wasn't the injuries that made him retire, it was a hepatitis B. The injuries only prevented him from wrestling in WWE.
thank you commentators for being professional and calling the damn match makes pro wrestling feel more like a sport than a script
what a match this was awesome and ring of honor is still the best today

Awesome match! Nigel's torn biceps injury was completely legit. What a warrior!
Holy shit! That double stomp to the outside! KENTA is nuts!
I was front row for this show. Was absolutely convinced KENTA was taking the belt here, absolutely bit the 2.9 count after the G2S. Unreal Nigel was able to have this match with how shot his arms were.
Nigel McGuinness never gets enough credit
Nigel is one of my fav wrestles. Decided to look this up while watching Nigel call a Kenta match on 205 Live.👌🏽
awesome match!
nice, professional work-job of KENTA, he let Nigel shine...
Watching this on the bus, so glad they featured a Nigel match.
Big KENTA fan!
Awesome match
What a helluva match!!! Hats off to Nigel! Such a shame he had to retire so soon.
Man, I did not appreciate how good Nigel McGuinness was as a wrestler. Didn't really get into anything outside WWE until 2011.

I miss the old logo and mat.

Great match
Yes, sir.
awesome!!!!!!!
What a match!👍👌
it's a shame nigel had to retire. would have loved to see him go a couple more times with danielson and kenta.
KENTA's GTS is so good
Punk does the GTS on guys twice his size. So I think Punk is very impressive when he does it. Most of Kenra opponents if not all are small or bellow 240 Ibs.
Qthetar All his GTS on big guys are very sloppy

Hope Kenta comes back one day.
@ 17:06 a Paul London look-a-like in the crowd.
Man that was crasey!
So Nigel Did Wrestling before Doing commentary?
Yes but sadly he retired .
I wonder if kenta will have matches like this in NXT.
😂😂
Poor Nigel the last great ROH world champ, such a shame his career ended.
I'd say lethal was the last great champ
he invented it.
Dave prazak and Nigel on commentary please
He's kinda busy in NOAH for a moment since he's the current GHC Heavyweight Champion. But yeah, one day would be cool.
nigel had a torn bicep in this match right?
All the talent and future talent roh had how they where always the third wheel behind wwe and tna
Yeah Punk adopted it because the Pepsi Plung was too close to the Pedegree and the GTS doesn't require as much set up and can kind of come out of nowhere if need be.
I meant Nigel actually
"Is tonight the last time he leaves with that belt around his waist?" Wait, what?
That means is it the last time he gets to go home as champion.
can't say enough about Nigel McGuinness this guy is absolutely awesome love watching him fight in fact I think he's probably the only fighter from the West that I've seen who could even compete with the more skilled skilled and sadistic Japanese wrestlers most of the big muscled Western studs go to Japan get destroyed and have no success good to finally see a real big hot white guy who could beat one of these Japanese Fighters I have seen Kenta beat the crap out of so many white muscle studs previously that it made it particular Suite to finally see a western fighter who could defeat this Japanese tough guy and Kayenta is one of the toughest and more skilled Fighters I've ever seen so kudos 2 mr. punk said he used it because the pepsi plung was beating up his knees and he said triple h had nothing to do with him not using it
How did Nigel McGuinness keep his hair like that?
what the hell is that on Desmond Wolf's head?
He was in such bad shape at this point and yet he went out every night and worked his fucking ass off!
And now is cleared to possibly get back into the business again, which is something I know a lot of marks want since they missed him doing storylines in ROH a lot, anyways.
God, Nigel had shite taste in haircuts back then.
SilverZombie44 lol I thought the same thing about that hairstyle when I was younger but now I'm considering actually fashioning it.
KENTA vs Kevin Steen
Can someone tell me who kenta was pointing to the heavens for
Kenta vs nigel mcguinness was a awesome match but could have be better
Kenta looks just like Hideo Itami
Yeah wonder why

Aye, there is loads of ROH vids on dailymotion
your loves like a hurricane
If I'm correct, he retired cause he was diagnosed with Hepatitis
The hepatitis was taken care of, I think he was just battered and had enough
I think Nigel does the best GTS, looks so stiff
archangel76106 they way he takes it or hits it?
nigel's harcut is one of the most unfortunate ive ever seen
Nigel still holds the claim to the worst hair in the business.
Have you see Michael Elgin's balding mullet?! Now that's some pretty jacked up hair!
***** seen* ...
Is it me or does McGuinness look tony in this match? Its like he was getting smaller towards the end of his career.
Nigel is desmond wolf from tna lo
"kenna" wtf
wwes hideo itami vs TNA's Desmond Wolfe
obviously im joking. but ive never like Nigel's hair. it bugs me.
