  • I offered to clean this lady's yard up when I realized it was multiple feet into the street. I got started and man did I get myself in over my head. I spent about 10 hours doing this job and I removed a little over 3000 pounds of dirt/sod from the street to be composted. She was absolutely stunned with the result and thought I was absolutely crazy being there all day to do free work.

You should seriously consider using a mask while running the blower and lawn mower. The dust might cause issues in the long run.
You are doing a great service to the community, I really wish the home owners are more appreciative to the work that you do. I can't belive how ungreatful some of them are.

Not only did you do the town's job at fixing the sidewalk, but making it easier for the whole community to use the sidewalk and decrease any stormwater backup that I'm sure they had. If the family is socially uncomfortable, the lady could've at least left you a ice cold bottle of water on the porch. You also need a sign to put in their yard so that the neighbors know who to call and thank for your amazing work and possibly future jobs. Thank you for what you do!

It may not be the towns job, it might be a requirement of the homeowner to maintain it. At my location it is the responsibility of the homeowner to edge the grass on side walks and curbs and to remove blockages of leaves and yard waste from storm sewer grates. And since I live in the northern Midwest, we also have to clear the snow from sidewalks and keep them free of ice or face fines from the city - or worse get sued if someone slips and falls because you didn't clear it properly.

He did wonders on mowing that lawn, the amount of work and dedication I'm speechless, I don't know if she did but I doubt it since she said "oh man, is he still here" part, but where I'm from the least we could do is to offer a bottle of water or something to drink, it doesn't matter if it's coffee, and if it's take a long time we even offer food (even if we're paying for the service). @Bladetron She saw him working for hours at home without changing the reason he came there, which was to work. I once had some people work at my house, and I am socially awkward . What I did was order pizza and soda, and I put them on the balcony. I did not dare to speak to them because although I was paying for the service, it was my husband who contacted them, and I was alone. I don't know. It would make sense the way she talks without excitement but not the part of not offering at least water as appreciation for his hard work. But who knows, really, maybe at the end of the day, maybe her and her husband contacted him later for paying mowing jobs as maintenance or to do the backyard, which was excluded at first.
