Gone but never forgotten Pebber. Over a decade later and still this is peak musical education content. You had a worldliness and an expertise that continues to be incredibly inspiring. A maestro surrounded by the workings of his chosen craft.
Can't understand all the negativity. This man is offering you knowledge for free. Taking time to teach is noble. If you already know these things or don't agree that's fine but some of these attacks just make no sense.
Because this lesson is TOTALLY ineffective. I've been playing for 35 years and I can assure you this method will waste time. His heart is in the right place but the problem is that new guitarists may follow this tutorial and after thousands of hours practice find that they arn't really any good. This does them a disservice and we lose a potentially gifted player, and maybe they give up where as they might have become successful or just enjoyed their lives more because they would have been doing something they potentially loved. These reasons and more are why all the negativity, and i would say fair enough (and yes i went through the whole video before commenting)....sorry for the negativity but sometimes truth is more important.... cheers all.

Most all guitar teachers who teach out of strip mall music stores are extremely limited in their knowledge of professional skill level ideas. I am happy to help you out thanks!
I just stumbled on this video by accident. have been playing guitar for 37 years in every almost every genre of music. I have played gigs (blues/rock) for some of the toughest crowds including the Hells Angels and other outlaw biker clubs so that should be a clue that kick ass on guitar. I say that humbly because I paid my dues and probably have logged over 40,000 hours on guitar which is an average of 3 hours a day for 37 years. I play classical, Jazz, funk, metal, and have studied with some of the top guitarists in the world including famous musicians like Leslie West from Mountain, John Scofield, Pat Thrall, Bill Conners etc. . I also taught guitar for 20 years and gave free lessons to anyone ho couldn't afford to pay. I NEVER comment on youtube videos because I have better things to due with my time. But I felt compelled to write a comment so hopefully a few people who read this learn something about life, not just guitar. First off, anyone who made any negative comment already tells me you suck ass on guitar because you are too narrow minded to realize you can improve and learn by watching anyone play, especially a professional teacher like this man. Did anyone think about how generous he was to use his personal time to create this video with the intent of helping you improve your playing.? A lesson that everyone should learn is that time is more valuable than money because once it's gone, you can never get it back. Big deal if he made a few "mistakes" while making the video. I have seen the best guitarists in the world hit a "bum" note during a live show. One total asshole named JEFF DAVIS, who posted below, not once, but twice, must obviously suck on guitar because instead of practicing, he wastes his time posting negative crap. it's not terrible if you suck on guitar because with practice, anyone can improve. What really must suck, is going through through life as a clueless moron, which he proved with very own words by saying he watched the entire 1 hr 38 minutes of something he hated when there were thousands of other guitar videos a "click" away? Who could possibly be that stupid? We know at least one person who is. I actually feel bad for him and apologize for calling him an asshole because mentally challenged people with low IQs need help, not criticism. So I truly mean I am sorry. Anyone else who made any negative comments, think twice before posting. You weren't "forced" to watch video nor did you pay a penny for a "free" private lesson. Learn to live with a little gratitude and be thankful you have a computer, internet access, a guitar, and more importantly, eyes and ears to watch and listen to this video because there are blind and deaf people in this world. If I helped one person reading this post, then I am happy and it was worth my time posting this comment because as I said before, time is out most valuable commodity, so you it wisely. And a big thank you to Pebber Brown, a person I have never even heard of until an hour ago. You area great teacher and a good soul. And a big thank you for anyone who took the time to post a nice comment because you "get" it. Giving a compliment makes the person receiving it feel good, but makes the person giving it feel even better. Good look on your musical journey.
Absolutely agree... This is a absolutely awesome class, most people make this kind of things for money this teacher is a really Teacher and do this lessons to help people. Is priceless...
Best Quote in listen, "If you have the patience to do this you will get really good, if you don't, you will suck forever". I immediately clicked the subscribe button after hearing it.
i'm so glad that i stumbled onto this video. i am basically self-taught, which is great to a degree. i have been playing for about 25 years but i reached a certain level and then became stagnant at that level for about the last 20 years. i can't afford $30 lessons (they were $10 back in the day when i took them for a couple of months) so i was searching for something to bring my playing to the next level. this video had been priceless to me. i just found it less than a week ago but i can't believe how my picking has improved. i'm still just about a half hour into it and I can't believe how much i have improved in such a short time. thanks so much Pebber. you're a GODSEND!
52 yr....just starting right here, right now . Yep, sometimes luck strikes gold and this Man is going to help me learn correctly. It took me about 20 seconds to understand and admire his honest approach and commanding style of teaching that ensures no short cut or miracle. There must be a thousand choices to find inspirational instruction. PB exceeds my expectations to learn correctly the first time. Although I am older , I have not learned any bad habits and that is good because bad habits limit a persons potential. Thank you, I will be watching every video I , as many times as I can. Practice
Before anyone starts trying to argue with me about using a metronome and how my video is flawed because I dont use a metronome, just keep in mind I have dozens upon dozens of videos for my paying subscriber students which emphasize metronome practicing and I also have 4 instructional DVD's which contain many metronome practicing drills and exercises in many timing configurations.
"Yes!!" Patients Grasshopper I have followed Pebber for years. There have been several times I have got to sit in on a jam session and blow peoples minds. I will also admit that if I had more perseverance I would be at a "professional " level. But hey, I can play a lot of Jeff Beck to this day. :-)
By far the best and most entertaining free practice session ever. Thanks PB! We're done right? Nope right back to the A. Lmao Don't like it, too bad! Everyday for the rest of your life.
simple solution: buy a metronome and be a great metronomist, i´ll practice this and will be a great guitarrist. (no hablo bien inglés, no entiendo ni el 10% de lo que dice pebber pero pongo su video e intento copiar lo que él hace every single day). gracias señor brown !
Metronomes are a great tool but sometimes practicing with out it is good too. When someone is passing on so much with their great awesome influence and knowledge I give praise and thanks rather than complain and criticize. Thanks for your videos Mr. Brown. I also have applied your inspirational talking points on practice to my painting as well. I am glad to find you and your Linux-open-source-like attitude. Eating goober peas since third grade here and thirty years later getting serious finally. I'm surprised I could even tune the guitar sic.
Apart from your excellent guitar teaching, I love your raw "meditations" and mind-wanderings over the "boring" practice parts. You're quite the guitar-buddha haha. I've slowly started downloading your vids 1 by 1 through fear of losing them. I've accumulated about 17gb worth so far. I don't often make that much virtual room for anything, so I appreciate it. Thanks for the real lessons and virtual company while learning.
10 mins in and I'm excited to finish watching the rest. Dude is 100 correct. Everyone wants that fun road trip with hilarious moments and good tunes but in reality you are sitting a car driving for hours bored out of your mind. This guy is just being real with everybody.
Holy Crap! This is quite possibly the best practice lesson I have ever had in the 15 years I have been playing. After 3 weeks of playing ALONG with PB, this has increased my speed and made me an all around better player! Every DAY! Even on vacation...
I used to get up every morning and come on utube n type in marty swartz till 2weeks ago sum guitar building dude made a vid bout marty not being that great n many others with less followers that are miles better players teachers. He said marty had just taken off from no where. I read the comments and some guys were mentioned ie pebber brown. Since that day 2wks ago every morning i wake up to this daily practice without fail. I never watch the mind control tv anyway but a few things hit me whilst listening t pebber. Hes smart. And i WILL practice this module for the rest of my life!! Excellent dude. I tell all my friends about this guy
Pebber, a good friend of mine just brought my attention to you over the weekend, said that your guitar workouts will change my life forever. I just started today, taking my lunch hour at work to play all the open strings using alternate picking, spending 3 minutes on each string using a metronome at 80bpm. 40 minutes later I could already feel a difference. Can't wait to rush home and go through the rest of the exercises. Thanks for all your insight!
Pepper I just wanted to say thank you for the practice routine iv been using this for about six months now and its really made a difference....thanks again
this is brilliant, love how he challenges you to do to the WORK, people have to realise it takes work hahaha "every. single. day. for the rest. of. your. life."
I am a classically trained pianist who is also the child of professional musicians. At a young age I was dissuaded from learning guitar since at the time it was considered a "disreputable" instrument, especially among the classic music folk. Now in my 40's I'm finally pursuing a bucket list goal of learning to play guitar. This kind of training and rigid discipline instruction is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I SUCK. Thank you for your instruction, Maestro.
Are you still playing? If you're piano player and come from family of musicians? If you stayed interested, and put time effort into you would be like fish takes to water. Shredding!
This. This is what I need. I've been playing for over 20 years. I've played festivals and sold-out gigs and I have recordings on Spotify and iTunes. I fully appreciate Pebber pointing directly at the camera and telling me that I suck. I've studied jazz and classical. I've probably taken 10 years worth of lessons from various instructors, including jazz and classical. I practice generally 1-2 hours a day and I'm lazy, sloppy and unfocused. This is exactly what I needed. Thanks Pebber.
Thanks so much, Pebber. The best things in life are always free, and your guitar practice video is a perfect example of that. Thank you for patiently taking us through a real-time practice session. Those of us from backgrounds or countries with limited resources and opportunities truly value all that you think, say and do. By the way, your sarcasm and style reminds me of two comedic geniuses, Bill Hicks and George Carlin. You are the George Carlin and Bill Hicks of the guitar world. I will continue to follow this practice video on a regular basis. Thanks again, Pebber.
Dear Pebber, you blew my mind when you said we had to go back to the A string. Now for all people who want to excercise and make it through, what I do is this (while watching the vid); everytime you feel the need to do something else; just let it be and don't lose yourself into it. If you do it correctly, you get the chills. Do this everytime you feel the need to lose yourself in the distractions. Thats how you get through. Also, at the same time you may be thinking; "I'm committed to play guitar, and working on it to improve myself". Feels good. Cheers!
Been playing and gigging for 40 yrs and have just started this type of practice, i always just worked up songs. Guys do this type of stuff is all i can say. Very well done PB!
He s just being REAL... he s telling people what it takes from experience.. That’s the best teacher one can get.. to base his methods from experiences which is proven .. I APPLAUDE THIS GUY.. THANKS PEBBLER..
I've been watching every single one of Pebber's videos since about a month after I started playing guitar and that was 5 years ago. I used to play along to this video daily for almost a year straight when it came out before I developed my own warm ups and exercises. I still come back to it every now and then. He is 100% right, you do what he says and your technique will become insanely efficient. One day in the future I'll have to get those online lessons from him. Thanks Pebber.
it's absurd what a difference this made after a few days. The first 20 minutes alone would've been months of improvement if i had kept practicing my way. You're a real asset to the world, not for this vid but for wanting to spread honesty and knowledge. thanks
this guy is hilarious. He berates the fuck out of us for being lazy, but he is right. I tried the technique here and that night I played much smoother and more accurately. Thanks!
Thanks for the free lesson Pebber !! everything you teach is dead on - i've been playing 25 years and i couldn't agree more with your substance of lessons and your experience you share
I have been doing the exercises in this module for about 2 years now and I'm really happy about the results. Nothing has ever helped improve my playing as much as these exercises, especially the right hand single string picking exercises.
I love it thank you PB Iv been looking for a teacher like you. No bullshit you tell it like it is and you show what it takes and how to do it if someone wants to become a real skilled guitarist this is exactly what Iv been looking for Thank You Man!
I was searching vids for practice routines because I don't seem to be improving and found this. First 25 minutes showed me what real practicing is like. Its now 3:45am because I am hooked on your videos. Thank you so much! Neck and back surgerys have left me with time to learn guitar, something I always wanted to do.
I don't know why people say bad things about your teaching & techniques, you have just motivated me, this is what I need! ,back to basics and do it right! Am an intermediate guitarist, but listening to some of your lessons today, you rock!!
You are great sir. Thanks to you I now realise how important it is to be patient, to believe and of course to practise in order to master the guitar...
Thank you Mr Pebber for your free lessons. I am 50 years old and have always done what I now realize is "faking" at sounding decent on guitar to non- musical observers. I can play decent but never realized how important what you are showing means to getting past plateaus and getting on to next levels. I'm an airline pilot and have plenty extra time to finally use the wisdom that you are showing me and others on here for free and no charge. Just wanted to find a way to tell you, that some people out here greatly appreciate a mature person like you cutting thru the BS. Have a great week. Brian
Oh man did u pop some bubbles this time. It is all true that which you said and I completely agree. But unfortunately for most people the truth is painful. And many reacted badly. There are many expensive instruments gathering dust in closets and attics because music was a whim and not a disciplin. More is the pity..............
Pebber Brown, you are my guitar guru. The attitude is exactly what i have been looking for and it has pushed me a lot. All the material you have put out is just amazing.
For all you guys who keep asking about NOT USING A PICK. This is the wrong video for you guys. If you dont want to use a pick, or for some reason can not ore are unable to use a pick for whatever reason, what you want to do is look up videos on FINGERSTYLE guitar. This video is all about using the pick.
Thanks so much for this video. 2 quick questions : - Would you recommend always practicing with a clean tone? unless practicing songs or techniques that need/will have a high gain tone? - The annoying question (sorry!) : Alternate or Economy picking?
I did 10 seconds at first!!!! and I was holding my pick flat!!! I also play mandolin and could not work out why I could never build any speed!! This lesson has done me the world of good and is fantastic,,,, love your sarcasm I also was the guy who never got better jumping around all over the place wanting to be great at everything and getting nowhere............. THANKYOU
This video changed my life 7 years ago. (maybe you can even see my old profile and comments here.) I started to practice everyday to a metronome learn scales chords and now i knew how much i have to put in to practicing to reach my goals, i downloaded all the pdfs and videos and watched and performed that everyday, most day for 10-12 hours untill i became insane.... before that i couldnt play powerchords, punk songs or anything correctly, i was the worst guitarplayer in my band and worst musician general. this video teaches you how to PRACTICE and what to practice. this gives you a good foundation. now i can play solos, know the major scales modes minor scales pentatonic... everything that most guitarist use. and you know what i still call myself a beginner because im not at pebbers or bucketheads or holdsworths (rip) or even jimmy pages level. Thank you very much Pebber and i will still tell every new guitarist to check your videos as i always did.
Thank you very much Mr. Brown. Despite the controversy of your educational style, you are a true man and that is much needed in this world of today. And thank you very much for sharing your hard work and time with the community. Thumbs up!
Pebber, thanks for this. These exercises are just what I needed to find. I am trying to recover my playing skills after sustaining spinal chord and nerve damage that virtually paralyzed my left hand and severely effected my dexterity. I am now trying to get my ability to play back. Joel
Joel Harris Keep up the faith Joel, anything worthwhile takes time. I've recovered from a couple of rounds of major surgery... severed tendons on my right hand, and also had a rib removed from the right side of my spinal column. I had to relearn my picking technique etc. etc. (long story). BUT I did regain my facility and techniques. Slow and steady man... patience is the key. All the best. Take care.
Hey dude! I know this is 2 years later but I hope you're still at it, you can do it! I have forearm tendonitis in my picking arm really bad, but I practice everyday and stretch like a mofo lol. Cheers!
Same here. At my peak, I routinely played and practiced 4-6 hours a day (not that it was good for my marriage or my relationship with my kids, things that also require lots of time, but that's another story). Had my spine and neck broken in a car accident, had a girl who was texting and driving drive her Suburban right through me at a red light, my life changed in an instant. Between the "dead" fingers and spasms that resulted from the pressure against my spinal cord (especially the C-Spine damage), I just have up playing, entirely, for a few years, literally couldn't lift my guitar over my head for quite some time. I began playing again a couple of years ago, but it's been a struggle, you don't realize how much of that skill actually rests in your hands (rather than your head) until you have to start over. For a while I couldn't even fret again properly, so started doing pick exercises similar to these, trying to reconstruct my skill set any way I could. This video is like a Physical Therapy for Guitar Playing program, starts with the easily-taken-for-granted fundamentals and builds from there. THANK YOU, PB, for making and posting this video, it's just what I needed. Had I had something like this when I first started playing, I'm sure I would have gotten better much more quickly when I first started playing almost thirty years ago, but I'm glad I found it, regardless (I suppose, via UA-cam recommendations, it actually found me). Cheers!
This is a fantastic lesson. It is really good of you to post this up for beginners. Really good of you to take your time to post all of the lesson you have done for people on youtube.
Actually, MANY accomplished virtuoso guitarists and instrumentalists on other instruments have all practiced in this manner to develop the freedom which you seek.
Hey Pebber, I'm a new subscriber but am now a loyal student. I tell everyone about you. Been sucking at playing for way too many years. Been making awful noises on the guitar for about 35 yrs. You have shown me how to practice and that is what I've been looking for. As a side note; I find that if I don't make a fist with my right hand my thumb ; being the strongest digit; over powers my index finger and I lose the pick, the others support my finger against my thumb. Don't lose it anymore.
Love your teaching ways, I'm 52 and looking to purchase my first guitar in a few weeks. I have researched a lot of how to videos, you do have the best and straight forward! Thanks!
I first started playing 40 years ago when I was 14 and of course like most teens got side tracked - the usual - girls, cars, etc but my dad - who had nothing to do with music in any way told me then I would need to practice 2- 3 hours a day if I wanted to get good - yeah right! So 40 years later - yeah (he was) right! This vid and all others by this Pebber dude on right on it. So at 54 I'm starting over. Still got the same axe as when I was a kid but this stuff Pebber is doing is the right shit. You want to get good, do as he does and do as he says. If not, do anything else. The coffee and the "you suck" comments are pretty funny as well. Thanks dude
I just found your channel through a comment on a Rick Beato video comment! I LOVE THIS! thanks for uploading! I think I have finally found what I'm looking for. Thanks again!!
The single string right hand picking exercise is a great exercise. I have been doing 40-45 minutes of that of that every day for more than a year now and I can really tell how it has improved my playing. You helped me realize that I had always neglected the right hand.
Never ever take any of these videos down. I have been using your videos for almost 2 years and i'm already neck and neck in terms of technicality with a guitarist friend who has been playing for 6.
Pebber. I gotta say: your video here, how you hold yourself. You make me hate you. You make me want to get very good at the guitar so that I can some day walk up to you, play a riff, then punch you in the face. You give me a target, "Beat this dude. Hard." So, in short, I'm totally subbed! Only a half hour in and my right hand was burning. I can really learn something here. Thank you!
im sittin here watchin an thinkin i was only one who felt this......then i scroll the comments cause i caught many fuck ups with such a hot air tude and smart ass stance, i learned more in solitude than this fook could teach me.....so yeah, we shall all get better, sip some coffee an punch his fat face lol......i implore his efforts though......;)
I may just be. Though watching this guy and getting angry at him, even with what I meant as a joke, I have improved. So I'm an arsehole, sure, but I'm improving my guitar skill.
wax on, wax off! Pebber is the Mr. Miyagi of guitar. Thanks for the lesson and wisdom. Where can I find a 12-step program to help guys that suck at playing the guitar? I guess the first step to improving is admitting that I suck now but recognizing that I don't have to suck if I put in the required work.
I think it depends on what your goals are. If you plan to be a studio guitarist or teacher you need to read music and know music theory and chords from A to Z and have superb technique. But if your goal is playing your favorite type of music in pubs or selling original material you need to focus more on developing proficiency in your chosen style. Playing along with recordings of your heroes is an age-old method.
Wow this really brings back memories! These are the exact same things you were teaching me back in 79 at a little place in Claremont. I still use the 3 and 4 note per string scales and exercises / sequences that you taught me every day. I wanted to learn to play songs and you insisted that I work on these fundamentals and it really paid off for me. Thanks!
Pebber when you are practicing picking like this, or when you are playing in general, do you rest your hand at all anywhere on the guitar or is your hand completely "free" besides the contact your arm makes with the body? do you rest your wrist anywhere? Thank you in advance for any response.
Came back to this years later and now that I'm older, I'm seeing even more nuggets of wisdom than I did before (particularly the becoming aware of the different string tensions and the differences in where you pluck the strings parts)
I really enjoyed your approach Mr Brown. I began playing classical guitar (still do & teach) and the fundamental thing with the guitar is that the quality of the sound comes from the right hand. I had good teachers that emphasised the importance of the RH before looking to shred, so to speak. I really still do stick to a regime where the right hand is approached first, by the way for you guys that didn't study at University when Mr. Brown moves his hand from the bridge to the neck for a brighter sound to a warmer sound that's called sul ponticelli (at the bridge) in Italian and sul tasto (at the neck). Also imagine a professional athlete diving straight into a 1500 metre without a warm up or just going to a gym workout without a warm up. When I started getting interested in electric guitar and the girls (as we do) I had to learn a whole different (plectrum/pick) approach, well I didn't have to Mark Knofler, Robbie Kreiger et al didn't but I wanted some 'kick' behind my right hand. Then I discovered guys like Ted Greene and Robben Ford and I found that those fingers can be used when desired and the plectrum slipped between the index and middle fingers and brought back out when needed. I'd practice doing that little manouvre on the bus, waiting for a late friend etc - I always had a plectrum in my pocket. Also carry around the music that you're working on because you can read through it and play the guitar in your mind's eye and it really will help you when you get the instrument back in your hands. I've rambled and yeah i'm from downunder, Awstraya, I'm 52 and I still practice very much as this man does - no getting around it if you want to be a musician, but I'll tell you one thing, to the, maybe one person that's reading, Mr. Brown is totally right in this approach. The idea is to do these things things so often that even when you're in front of people and nervous the consistency that the practice will have given you will pay dividends. The defence forces use this approach and so does every professional ANYBODY. You have to do the boring stuff if you want to be good. Poor planning equals a piss poor performance. Great video.
U are one among thousands guys who is straight forward no bs. I've ben looking for a tutor whom is willing to sit down and do this stuff along w/u even if is boring but is the way to teach. There are many teachers yet few masters. Thank you so much for your input, is certainly wise. I look forward for more of your videos staying focused on the teaching slow and neat when it comes to watch finger positions. There so many egomaniac posting videos that all they want is just show off so the world can see how big Gods they are! BS!! Keep up your simplicity and good work. Best
Thank you Pebber for your time and patience. In 2 days I spent about 4 to 5 hours listening to your lessons (theory w/shop & practice) and I am enjoying it! The daily practice is really helpful!! Thks again!!
Pebber, I can relate to what you are talking about. Totally understand. Routine is what really helps you gain a skill. I am just starting out to learn guitar. Everybody talks about how easy it is to learn, but when you pick up the guitar it doesn't seem very easy, and you end up feeling you are missing something. You said the right thing. It just set the right expectation for me. I now feel, I got something to get started with. Thanks man.
A note to impressionable young guitarists: please don't sit there alternate picking open strings for 30 minutes every day of your life thinking it's the only way to become a good player. I promise you, Jimmy Page doesn't wake up each day and do this. Nor did Hendrix, or any other guitarist that matters. The type of players who do? Steve Vai. Joe Satriani. The players who manage to take music out of the equation and turn the guitar into a purely athletic endeavour. Remember that music is about expression above everything else. Play what you enjoy, identify the esoteric parts of your playing and make them a feature of your music. Enjoy yourself.
John McLaughlin does this, Al Di Melola does this. Steve Vai has a PUBLISHED 10 HOUR PRACTICE ROUTINE. Your opinion of "guitarists that matter' is only YOUR own opinon. Jimmy Page practiced more hours than you have even been alive and Hendrix spent decades practicing before he became famous.
How do you know they didn't Phil.Jimmy,Jimi did something and a lot of it to get where they are. That do what you feel got me know where just playing here there 0.So I am gonna try Pebber, my fingers are sloppie ,,I miss note when I am picking, maybe Pebber can help.maybe I am wasting my time, But a least I am trying to get better I have play 40 years plus and sound ok,Will I want to hit it out of the Park hardcore. Thank you Brenda D Guitarlady, Queen city kid. Thanks Pebber
Joe and Steve didn't take music out of equation...they elated music to a whole different level....Elvis Presley once stated that during his formative years, he practiced till he fell asleep....back home (my home that is), the Indian classical musicians practice similar exercises for hours at end...some of my relatives play an array of instruments..sitar, harmonium, tabla etc...and they practiced 1 to 2 hours everyday...because they just wanted to play for recreational purpose...and they studied under some of the most prominent musicians, and have regaled us with facts how their Gurus would practice for hours and hours...and it would be just 1 tune or riff..and only after putting in so many hours could they reach the levels where they could play whatever they "thought in their heads".. I can draw parallels.... Pebber Brown has hit the epicenter of the bulls eye..
As a life long beginner lol I have done this drill over the past three plus weeks with excellent results. I'm more excited but how much more advanced I will become a few more weeks or months from now! My fingers are so much more coordinated and faster, cleaner and more confident with accuracy. Thank you big time Pebber!
Gone but never forgotten Pebber. Over a decade later and still this is peak musical education content. You had a worldliness and an expertise that continues to be incredibly inspiring. A maestro surrounded by the workings of his chosen craft.

Most all guitar teachers who teach out of strip mall music stores are extremely limited in their knowledge of professional skill level ideas. I am happy to help you out thanks!
I think you are a super great instructor
He's the guy that taught Buckethead and knew his real identity. That'll tell you enough about the level of expertise Pebber Brown had. He was a beast.
Bob Danuff Hear! Hear! Well said.
you are one million percent right. And I think Pebber Brown should be sainted he is such a mentsch (good person) and a wonderful teacher.
Here Here !!! well said sir!
This 2 year old comment is the best thing I will read today, no doubt. Wise words Bob Danuff.
Best Quote in listen, "If you have the patience to do this you will get really good, if you don't, you will suck forever". I immediately clicked the subscribe button after hearing it.
Pebber is AWESOME !!
i'm so glad that i stumbled onto this video. i am basically self-taught, which is great to a degree. i have been playing for about 25 years but i reached a certain level and then became stagnant at that level for about the last 20 years. i can't afford $30 lessons (they were $10 back in the day when i took them for a couple of months) so i was searching for something to bring my playing to the next level. this video had been priceless to me. i just found it less than a week ago but i can't believe how my picking has improved. i'm still just about a half hour into it and I can't believe how much i have improved in such a short time. thanks so much Pebber. you're a GODSEND!
Practice
Are you still practicing?
Before anyone starts trying to argue with me about using a metronome and how my video is flawed because I dont use a metronome, just keep in mind I have dozens upon dozens of videos for my paying subscriber students which emphasize metronome practicing and I also have 4 instructional DVD's which contain many metronome practicing drills and exercises in many timing configurations.
"Yes!!" Patients Grasshopper
I have followed Pebber for years. There have been several times I have got to sit in on a jam session and blow peoples minds. I will also admit that if I had more perseverance I would be at a "professional " level. But hey, I can play a lot of Jeff Beck to this day. :-)
Gilbert Sandoval
vedy goot mr geel.!! ah ha ha!
By far the best and most entertaining free practice session ever. Thanks PB!
We're done right? Nope right back to the A. Lmao
Don't like it, too bad!
You're one of the better guitar instructors on the web, thank you.
@@smoothbuddha7212 it improves your skills tremendously just work on it
Pebber, a good friend of mine just brought my attention to you over the weekend, said that your guitar workouts will change my life forever. I just started today, taking my lunch hour at work to play all the open strings using alternate picking, spending 3 minutes on each string using a metronome at 80bpm. 40 minutes later I could already feel a difference. Can't wait to rush home and go through the rest of the exercises. Thanks for all your insight!
Pepper I just wanted to say thank you for the practice routine iv been using this for about six months now and its really made a difference....thanks again
this is brilliant, love how he challenges you to do to the WORK, people have to realise it takes work hahaha "every. single. day. for the rest. of. your. life."
Lmao this is one of the most enlightening, and enjoyable guitar instructionals ive ever seen. Pebber you the man, subbed.
Shredding!
I'm addicted to this video..
I agree with the observation on his wit - I like it!
Definitely the most comprehensive channel I have found. Love the website too. Grateful for the time and commitment.
Dude you are awesome. Your "you suck" rant is one of the funniest and most necessary things I've ever heard.
Feels good. Cheers!
Being a Brit I find this dialogue hilarious, Pebber Brown is a true character!
Tony brittain - jones
"this is boring huh ..... every day, every day for the rest of your life....." lol!
Being a Brit who's enjoyed Pebber for a good 13 odd years: Me too.
Been playing and gigging for 40 yrs and have just started this type of practice, i always just worked up songs. Guys do this type of stuff is all i can say. Very well done PB!
+johnny Johnson indeed
hilariously honest!!! i love when he tells us how much we suck, and why!! my new guru!!!!
I been on the E String for 3 days Peeb,, ready to go to the A Sir !!! I think I am getting this ! 😁🖒
it's absurd what a difference this made after a few days.
Pebber is the football coach of guitar! LOL
Iron Pebber.......... DITKA and Go Bears!!!
Pebber has to be one of my favourite guitar tutors on UA-cam. I like his slightly "grumpy" approach and I'm learning a lot from his videos.
Most boring practise ever, BUT: It works and has to be done. Thanks, Teacher!
Drink enough coffee to make it fun!
Thanks!
I was searching vids for practice routines because I don't seem to be improving and found this. First 25 minutes showed me what real practicing is like. Its now 3:45am because I am hooked on your videos. Thank you so much! Neck and back surgerys have left me with time to learn guitar, something I always wanted to do.
Thanx Pebber ...U Rule.. I Suck... now I'm gonna drop some acid and stare at the Texaco sign.
2 quick questions :
- Would you recommend always practicing with a clean tone? unless practicing songs or techniques that need/will have a high gain tone?
- The annoying question (sorry!) : Alternate or Economy picking?
You made me get up 2 hours before work. Thank you, i have a goal:)
Pebber Brown Your teaching is extremely useful, very much appreciated and awesome, but I swear I tune in mostly for the insults. Hilarious!
Just switch to bass
I did 10 seconds at first!!!! and I was holding my pick flat!!! I also play mandolin and could not work out why I could never build any speed!! This lesson has done me the world of good and is fantastic,,,, love your sarcasm I also was the guy who never got better jumping around all over the place wanting to be great at everything and getting nowhere............. THANKYOU
Your words are very inspiring. Thank you! A great lesson!
Thank you very much Pebber and i will still tell every new guitarist to check your videos as i always did.
who shat there pants when he started going the other way on the strings lol
Actually, MANY accomplished virtuoso guitarists and instrumentalists on other instruments have all practiced in this manner to develop the freedom which you seek.
thanks for your help much appreciated
1 hour 38 minutes of pure platinum.
Thank you Mr Pebber Brown for this video.
No bullshit, no sugar coating, straight up take your medicine if you want to get better demonstration. Thank-you.
I've been playing over 35 years so far...glad to see that I am not alone in how I think...thanks for this!
you are a great motivator.....thanks for being such a hard ass...great videos..thanks so much!!!
P90x of guitar lessons.
Yerizzo I LOVE this comment
Appreciate your no nonsense approach to teaching, dude. You're absolutely correct!!
"If you don't have the patient for it... you will SUCK for ever" hahahaha!
Thanks dude
...after putting the guitar away for 30-years, this was excellent for getting my 'chops' back. This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
"Quit playin guitar... go sell it... you suck!!!"
hahahahahahahaha!!!! that's the greatest thing I've ever heard.... good for you Pebber!
I just found your channel through a comment on a Rick Beato video comment! I LOVE THIS! thanks for uploading! I think I have finally found what I'm looking for. Thanks again!!
I went away and tried the first exercise...it's difficult!
Continuing...
Pebber please don't take this video down! this video has inspired me so much. You have influenced me immensely.
i'm drinking the coffee with my left hand while doing this.
The single string right hand picking exercise is a great exercise. I have been doing 40-45 minutes of that of that every day for more than a year now and I can really tell how it has improved my playing. You helped me realize that I had always neglected the right hand.
WHY AM I ONLY WAXING ON AND WAXING OFF!
Hard."
So, in short, I'm totally subbed! Only a half hour in and my right hand was burning. I can really learn something here.
Thank you!
36 minutes in, out of coffee and I feel like I spent 2 hours jerking off horses. No excuses, drive on!
I know what you mean mate good motivation though
im sittin here watchin an thinkin i was only one who felt this......then i scroll the comments cause i caught many fuck ups with such a hot air tude and smart ass stance, i learned more in solitude than this fook could teach me.....so yeah, we shall all get better, sip some coffee an punch his fat face lol......i implore his efforts though......;)
Nick Shepro Ugh,,,if only I could get THAT image out of my mind...
I may just be. Though watching this guy and getting angry at him, even with what I meant as a joke, I have improved.
So I'm an arsehole, sure, but I'm improving my guitar skill.
Thank you Sir for making videos longer than 10 minutes. These videos are actualy really helpful !
I'm at 18 minutes and my hand is falling asleep!
I just picked up the guitar after 20 years and you have energized me dude.
wax on, wax off!
Honestly just watching you practice and keeping track of the fretting is a work out.
So how much coffee do I need to have good tone.
lynx777 - More.
😂
Wow this really brings back memories! These are the exact same things you were teaching me back in 79 at a little place in Claremont. I still use the 3 and 4 note per string scales and exercises / sequences that you taught me every day. I wanted to learn to play songs and you insisted that I work on these fundamentals and it really paid off for me. Thanks!
And who might you be?
Pebber when you are practicing picking like this, or when you are playing in general, do you rest your hand at all anywhere on the guitar or is your hand completely "free" besides the contact your arm makes with the body? do you rest your wrist anywhere? Thank you in advance for any response.
Came back to this years later and now that I'm older, I'm seeing even more nuggets of wisdom than I did before (particularly the becoming aware of the different string tensions and the differences in where you pluck the strings parts)
hey pebber buddy why don't you drink your coffee with your left hand hahahah thats what i do and i don't have to stop :)
Lol, gain skill and character simultainiously! Can't buy that wisdom.
Best
12:00 this turned into a fem domme hypnosis recording really quickly.
Thank you Pebber for your time and patience. In 2 days I spent about 4 to 5 hours listening to your lessons (theory w/shop & practice) and I am enjoying it! The daily practice is really helpful!! Thks again!!
3hrs 40 mins......still warming..........
T0PNOODLE Still from frozen solid to cold
pebber's tone and attitude here is so refreshing and is what we all need to hear, the truth hurts but its what we need most
I like you pebber brown. I like you alot.
Thank you! I´ve been doing your exercises about every day for a month now and I can clearly see the difference. Thank you again!
i take these lessons very seriously and i like your style of being severe. Except for Starbucks as it is overpriced disgusting shit.
+orbitalchiller hahaha
and you still suck...
this is the best first 15 minutes ive ever heard. I used to do that first exercise for years. now i havent really played for years. miss it
Do you ever play music?
