There were so many great little details in this finale. The silent shootout sequence in the depressurized corridor was so intense, and it was just one of many. Dani makes her decision not to wait her turn, Tracy telling Gordo she makes the suit sing, Margo wrapping the number around a Tootsie Roll, the run on toilet paper at the stores, Sally Ride pulling out her piece, and those empty rooms with TVs playing the handshake. A lot to talk about, and I will follow up with a season 3 questions video in the next couple of days. Let me know where you’re at on that.

      1. the trailer for S2 was fake with 12-20 marines on rovers with guns (i thought that was gonna be the finally battle/siege).
1.5 fake trailers/scenes are common now with modern tv shows. or they just skipped/deleted that part of the show
      2. Why Panama is so important in this timeline the Suez cannel is still closed so alot shipping traffic is coming through it.
      3. we are never told why its so important to retake that cosmonaut or why he's defecting is he Christian/Jewish or just want a better life American Hamburgers. 3. IRL The Soviets had Generals/Colonel defecting all the time that it wasn't that big of a deal.
      4. The Soviets weren't acknowledge the mining claims by the U.S,A. 4.5 which started the marines bring guns to the Moon to reclaim their mining site.
      5. we aren't told if the truth about gordo's episode on the moon is told/leaked.
      6. the last part with the russians i didn't get/have subtitles on so i'll have to go back and rewatch it.

Yeah, I didn't think that they were going to make it and was shocked that they actually got back to the airlock. I didn't want them to die but at the same time it would've totally destroyed any realism had they survived. I was expecting them to just kinda lean back against the outer walls of Jamestown, leaning on each other as they watched the sun and have a fade out/white out that way to show that they'd died.
One thing I did notice on her tombstone is that they'd awarded Tracy the CMH along with Gordo, which I have to figure that they either: A. made a special provision for her being a civilian since she did go out into hard vac with Gordo to save the base, or B. Astronauts are allowed to earn military awards and decorations in this timeline because of all the work they do for the military or something. Or combination thereof.

I really liked Gordo and Stacey’s story arc this season. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about it at first but by the finale it really paid off both the characters and was also deeply heartbreaking. I didn’t even want them to ‘get back together’ in a sense, but dying in an embrace after all they went through was so powerful. I teared up and even tear up just thinking about it. Almost like the embraced bodies frozen in time like they found at Pompeii in their last moments. And they looked so lifeless. Really hit me in the gut. I had to rewatch that scene of them running as their suits are deteriorating. Just wow

  • @nolarobert

The Tracy/Gordo story was handled to my satisfaction even though I had a feeling they would have to sacrifice themselves to save Jamestown. The episode really drew upon the excruciating tension the world experienced during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The language was the same too as the Soviets emphasized that it was a Quarantine due to the Americans introducing weapons to the Moon while the Americans called it a blockade, which is an act of war. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, US Destroyers were dropping non-lethal depth charges on the Soviet submarine, B-59. The sub was not in contact with Moscow and didn't know the situation. The captain wanted to torpedo the US carrier with a nuclear-tipped torpedo. Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov refused to consent to prevent an escalation that would have led to the exchange of nuclear weapons between the USSR and the West. The writers were inspired by this real-world event to have Ed defy orders and destroy the Sea Dragon which helped defuse the confrontation. Nice to see actual history used to inspire the alternate timeline's reality. Too bad they couldn't give us a look at John Lennon's Madison Square Peace Concert. Well, Well, Well will have to do. “Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.” I'm ready to see what is to come in 1995. Let's go explore the Red Planet!

Ok, here's my question for you. Why didn't they just pull the dead astronaut and cosmonaut from the unpressurised corridor? They would have gotten two slightly shot up suits to patch up with tape. The first thing that comes to mind for me is that they couldn't unpressurise the segment they were in, so they couldn't have safely done it, but I would have liked it of they at least considered it.

I said that too ...do the tape thing and exhale etc then drag suits in ....even just 1 suit would do....then patch with tape ...even just using the radio to call another suited person to do it. They probably wouldn't have had the time. Depressurising, repressurising and then depressurising again takes a long time, many hours at least.
On the other hand, it seemed to go pretty quickly during the Apollo-Soyuz docking, but that just equalising two already pressurised spaces.
From the moment they realised the situation and what had to be done, Tracy and Gordo didn't waste any time. Not even for a final smoke or a quick kiss or embrace, before sacrificing their lives in a desperate mankind saving mission with hopeless odds.

    • @micart79

    • @MatthewNugentmonty54
      @MatthewNugentmonty54 3 роки тому +1

A)Because the corridor was unpressurized and would have lead to the depressurization of the galley. They would have died if they tried it, because it would have taken too long to attempt to open the door and then repressurize it (if repressurization was even a possibility since the galley wasn't supposed to be depressurized as it was the original main room to the Jamestown base)there also isn't a guarantee they could get that door closed again.
B)The door opened OUTWARD, and Vance and the dead cosmonaut were laying in front of a door that would be hard to open due to the depressurized corridor as it was.
      C) they only had 45 minutes before the meltdown started by the time they got into contact with Houston and knew they needed to do something (Margo said 45 minutes I think)
      D) the suit Vance was in, was shot more than once as was the cosmonaut suit and therefore wouldn't have provided any extra protection than the duct tape, even if they taped it (especially if any shots hit the helmet). Look what happened to the Cosmonaut suits when they were shot near the mine and the other Marine who was shot but lived.
      E) Gordo mentions to Molly that the Soviets shut down the base comms, meaning they had no way to communicate with anyone. Their only comm was with JSC, and that didn't link into the suits anymore because all comms for suits and such ran through ops comm (where the invasion occurred)

I thought blowing up the Sea Dragon felt a bit disjointed. That to me was the only part of the finale that felt off. Ed basically made that decision without knowing much of what was going on everywhere else. It seems out of character for him to take such an action without having more info about the situation. And I didn’t think they established Sally Ride enough as a powerful moral authority for her to be what persuaded him. Maybe I missed something. Having grown up in the Reagan years, he was much more a diplomatic statesman in his role here than in our reality. It’s hard to imagine Reagan and Andropov backing off so rapidly and cleanly in most any timeline. Maybe that’s because living through that decade still feels like a miracle to me.
The whole Sergei thing seemed like a twist that’s hard to pay off with such a massive time jump between seasons. It hints that the Soviet Union may still exist in Season 3, but it’s also true that in our reality that old Soviet stuff just passed right on into Russia and kept going. So who knows. The best idea I can come up with is that the result is that information passed back and forth in their relationship (assuming they hook up) screws up both space programs and allows the Chinese to get to Mars first. But that’s a stretch I know.
The Tracy/Gordo ending got me way more than I thought it would. I was surprised how emotional I got. I hate seeing them off the show, but it was such a beautiful and surprising note to end a chaotic love story on. I honestly can’t remember a love story on screen that came to an end in such a sad, powerful, yet satisfying way.
Dani got her time to shine and save the world, and now she and Ellen both have their hero moments. Surely they will both have political futures in S3.
Overall, best finale I’ve seen in ages.

      -Marines not watching their sides?
-Reactor meltdown but only on the one that was installed secretly.
-Spacewalk for 20 seconds, which obviously was much more.
      -Instadeath after fullfilling purpose.
      -Out of character actions.
      -Allknowing characters.
-Luckily Tracy wanted a snack or a smoke and was where she was.
-Everyone is basically unable to shoot after being hit by a bullet, except for the plot russian that has to hit the reactor control at some point.
-Lift capabilities of a seadragon and no bulletproof glas?
      -No Kevlar?
-Why are the AK's black while the M4's had to be white due to heat? (destroying its own continuity)
-The russians basically invaded american territory and Ed would not do anything knowing his best friend was right down there?
-Who TF is Sally Ride compared to Ed, he'd not give a shit about her in that current mindset.
He showed nearly no empathy for Gordo when he was at his lowest, but surely listens to her...
All in all way too predictable. I knew showrunners wouldnt have the Balls for WW3 so Pathfinder HAD to shoot the Seadragon.
As soon as they were in Orbit I knew the end.
Also, I knew Gordo would die in this season and, taking tom as an example, the showrunners did the laziest job on delivering this.
They give you a bit of insight and show that one is not as bad as you might guess and when you come to terms with it, they'll kill them,
because they don't know how to further use them in their story.
God I've seen this over and over in different series and movies and this is so annyoing.

In our 'timeline' all the Soviet-US tensions reached a climax and dissolved during the presidency of Georhe HW Bush. Who actually was that type of statesman. 1988-1992 was a pivotal time period that happened like being on several high speed roller coasters with corkscrews at the same time, all over the world.
In 1988 everything looked bleak on all fronts, in 1989 the turns started (to become tangible) and by 1992 the world as a whole was suddenly clearly in a much better place.
It still gives me the creeps when wondering what a few what-ifs-gone-wrong in that time frame could have caused.
The show was amazing in conveying the climate of Cold War tensions and antagonism in the late 1980s that had casually permeated everything.

I think some of it too is that the USSR is far more powerful because it didn't engage Afghanistan, and Reagan came to power 4 years earlier. We hadn't given up the Canal, which turned Panama against us (which in our timeline happened in 1989). Reagan did send the ability to build nukes on the moon when he sent the weapons reactor. But I think the fact that his more aggressive actions (like the canal and weaponizing the moon with marines and future nukes) brought the world to the brink of nuclear war did make him step back (we never really went to the brink under Reagan and the USSR was weakening which is where the Tear down this wall speech came from). Also the fact that you have people like Ellen in the cabinet may have offered a less group think mentality than we saw in RL.

There's no guarantee they would've been able to depressurize, haul a heavy body in which would take quite a while, and then repressurize without losing too much air and suffocating right there and then. They'd die just by trying to do that, especially cause the door opens outwards and the body was right in front of the door. So you add onto the fact that you have to grab a grown mans body and push and pull a heavy ass door while pulling the body in? No, it wouldn't work.

To make us humans an interplanetary species? Take Elon Musk. When PayPal was sold to eBay in 2002 he received 165 million USD. What did he do? He put it all in SpaceX and Tesla with the goals to advance our species technology. Had he been even remotely narcissistic he would probably have put it all in stocks, as to maximize profit.

I was just talking to a friend how there isn't any good shows after you watch the big ones. I signed up for Apple TV, just to watch Masters Of The Sky and figured I had some free days. Then I see this 4 season show about spy shit, 80's (before and after). I watched the first two seasons in one day. I really did.
Never has a show hit me in the gut, in the head. I'm a little biased for growing up in the 80's. These characters become almost family. I'm a grown man and I haven't cried, like a good one, in decades. I might of had one coming but when Gordo and Tracy passed the way they did, I got sucker punched. What a well written show, even 80's WWF references, just loved this. This is probably the best show I seen in so long and just I'm so amazed. I hope more Apple Plus content is of the caliber I seen. I'm not a iPhone guy and I cast my screen just to watch it and will watch the next two seasons.

I wasn't a Reagan fan but I actually could envision him, after watching the handshake and realizing the US and USSR were on the brink of a no-win nuclear war, calling Andropov from Air Force One and saying he's coming to Moscow to talk. And of the course the final scene setting up Season 3 was great. Ronald D. Moore has said that the series potentially has a seven season run, jumping a decade in each one. I'm wondering if the USSR is still going to be around in Season 3. There will definitely be changes without the war in Afghanistan and the absence of Reagan from 1984 onwards, but I'm also wondering if Chernobyl is still going to happen - it had a big impact on the Soviets. Andropov opened things up to criticism, but refused to change from the command economy established by Stalin. A reformer like Gorbachev, or the man himself, might come along to do reforms to the USSR without the constant pressure Reagan exerted on them in OTL (Our TimeLine). I can't see any of OTL's figures in the USSR, even Gorbachev, reforming the Soviet Union as Deng Xiaoping did in the PRC in OTL. Gorbachev's reforms were meant to prop up the centrally planned economy, not transition to market socialism, and all his free speech and democratization policies were unpopular with officials in the Communist Party. If Gorbachev comes to power without undue pressure from the USA and a drag from a war in Afghanistan, the USSR could plod on into the 1990s as a second rate economic power compared to OTL's PRC, but I can't see the Warsaw Pact surviving unless Gorbachev is removed from power in a quiet coup. Boris Yeltsin will probably remain a radical unknown. Putin might begin his ascent politically during the 1990s that might see him as a candidate for General Secretary during Season 3 and he might put himself across as the sort of market socialism reformer for the USSR that Deng was for the PRC in OTL.

    • @deanzaZZR

Who knows maybe the Chinese or Indians will be in the mix in 1995.

    • @Brasc
      @Brasc 3 роки тому

Maybe. It's possible that the continued competition between the USA and USSR in the Space Race of the FOA TL could have led Mao to give more funding to the PRC's Project 714, the Shuguang (Dawn) spacecraft, instead of canceling it in 1972 as he did in OTL. There could have been a first Chinese manned spacecraft in orbit in 1973, as originally planned, rather than OTL's 2003 with the Shenzhou. The PRC could have their own base on the moon by 1995, but I don't see them wanting international cooperation with either the USA or USSR.
India received help with its first couple launches from the USSR, but its dedication to the Non-Aligned Movement during the Cold War would, I think, leave it relatively low in space development - launching satellites into orbit or maybe even small payloads to the moon - as in OTL, especially with the Cold War possibly lasting even longer in the FOA TL and the flashpoint that the moon became in 1983.
