Why when everyone mention all the genres that Twin Peaks mixes together they never discuss the comedy? What stood out to me the most the first time I watched that show was how genuinely hilarious it could be at times.
You didn't even mention how the album loops the end of the final song leads right into the opening of the first. I frequently listen to it on loop. It's perfect.
It's interesting because you could argue that Twin Peaks' first 2 seasons are a time loop. Dale dreams at the beginning that he's an old man 25 years into the future and then at the final episode he enters the Red Room where he waits 25 years and appears in his own dream
Well Anthony literally said "Xiu xiu play the music of twin peaks.....forever" in the end, so I'm sorry to tell you that you've been wrong for the last 5 years
That’s a brilliant idea. It’s like the Finnegan’s Wake of music, as that book ends with the first half of a sentence, the second half being the opening block of text at the very beginning, lowercase and everything. An infinite loop.
"Josie's Past" vocal snippet is from an entry in the book "the secret diary of Laura Palmer." This album is like another Soundtracks for the Blind to me!
just had a listen. was not familiar with Xiu xiu at all. Props for keeping the material intact. Props for being super weird. Props for the use (not overuse) of noise. I will most likely listen to this when driving through dark trees, when it's black as midnight as a moonless night.
3:35 - Laura Palmer's Theme 4:42 - Into the Night 4:53 - Audrey's Dance - Packard's Vibration - Nightsea Wind 5:20 - Blue Frank / Pink Room 5:50 - Sycamore Tree - Harold's Theme - Dance of the Dream Man 2:54 - Falling - Love Theme Farewell 6:34 - Josie's Past
Love how people are telling him to review it a day after it came out and if he did butt hurt drake fans would be saying he didn't take enough time to listen to it...
Y'all tripping on the views hate.. Hype, weston road flows, still here, feel no ways, one dance, Grammys, child's play, pop style, too good & not mention hotline bling r all 🔥🔥🔥
I love Dale Cooper because he has characteristics of a protagonist that wouldn't go over well to the modern viewer. First: unlike most modern protagonists, he is pretty incompetent. He is constantly screwing things up, even though he has good intentions. Second: unlike most modern protagonists, he is genuinely a nice guy. Most protagonists are cocky, special snowflakes, and jerks. Not Dale Cooper, he is a good dude, who keeps screwing things up. Great show!!! and I also Luv The Valley OH!!!
Ruse of Fools I agree! I love how in the new season they kinda locked in on that, cooper can’t save everyone and at the end the sense of dread is felt so much I almost panicked. What a ride!!
You were on the right track, it is a piece from Laura's diary. When they performed it live, they had the xylophone player come forward and read directly from the book.
Jesus of Cool Because Anthony was talking about the strange things that come from the mind of David Lynch. Jack Nance starred in Eraserhead, he didn't create it.
He was talking about David Lynch and showed a picture of Jack Nance. Those of us that are familiar with Eraserhead noticed it, but people who aren't might not.
I agree. Anthony reviews a lot of Hip-Hop and often but he's not a Hip-Hop channel. Unless it's really underground you don't even need to tell him to review it, he already knows about it otherwise more than likely.
Thank you so much for introducing me to this album. My only regret with picking it up on the sixteenth was hearing that you missed out on that opportunity. It's a real RSD tragedy. All the sympathy to you.
Anthony if you manage to still read comments this late I highly recommend Nicolas Jaar's Essential Mix from BBC Radio 1, the first 30 minutes or so is an ode to the soundtrack of Twin Peaks.
Hey man, I'm from Holland and there's an electro-band from my city who've just released their debut album. The bands name is Hömpfdinga and the album is called Fjord. Check it out, you should review it next!
The spoken part from Josie’s Past is a direct excerpt from The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, a tie-in book written by David Lynch’s daughter and published between the first and second season. I recommend it.
Glad you love it as much as I do! I bought it after hearing you talk about it (I love Twin Peaks, but had never heard of Xiu Xiu) - and I'm so pleased I did. Also: On Josie's Past, I may be wrong but I think it's Angelo Seo reading from the Diaries of Laura Palmer (a tie-in book written by Jennifer Lynch - David's daughter and director of Boxing Helena).
Y'all tripping on the views hate.. Hype, weston road flows, still here, feel no ways, one dance, Grammys, child's play, pop style, too good & not mention hotline bling r all 🔥🔥🔥
Demn I know, but this album is a total new wave of the band, the progression, the groove and ambient vibes. Everything about it is amazing! My favriote so far!
I think you're right about Josie's Past. It definitely is from Laura Palmer's diary. Probably read it from a copy that you can buy in stores since the passage is much longer than anything read in the show.
"Josie's Past" is indeed a reading of "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer" and as far as I can tell it's an original extract. Jennifer Lynch wrote it and it is very disturbing stuff. The album is awesome, though, you should see them performing the project live, I was blown away.
+theneedledrop Josie Packard certainly had a history with the black lodge and with bob himself. There was a scene that got cut from the finale in which Josie pokes her head out of the black lodge curtains indicating that her head (representing her mind or soul) are free from lodge and most likely trapped in the wood of the great northern much like the soul of the log lady's husband is trapped in her log and Josie's physical body is trapped in the lodge for the use of its demented inhabitants. Josie's history is something that did not get fully fleshed out in the series but would have had they gotten a third season or had Joan Chen not asked to be written out of the show. It will be interesting to see if Josie's past is explored in Mark Frosts upcoming book, The Secret History of Twin Peaks, or in the new series (even though Joan Chen is nowhere to be found on the recently released cast list). Cheers for a great review and for the twin peaks love!
I was hoping you would make this review!! As an avid Twin Peaks and Xiu Xiu fan I couldn't agree with you more on this. When I heard Laura Palmer's theme I was absolutely in awe :-)
the last track is an excerpt from "the secret diary of laura palmer", incidentally created by jennifer lynch. kind of a weird read, but it's cool supplemental material
Hey anthony. Just a casual fan of your videos, but consedering the nature of the album, are you a fan of Twin Peaks? Your couple tid bits of info on it got me really interesting to see if you have a concise and deep opinion of the show as I would love a vivid discussion on it. In case you aren't too into it I would also love to hear your thoughts on it. SPECIALLY the "weak" subplots season 2 has.
Or their "All Fours" record? Sausagany pizzatano.... Youll love bosse de nage. Theyre experimental black metal and theyve gotta get reviewed effective immediately.
So many people are carried away, thanks for reviewing this novelty album. But I haven't found anywhere to listen to what isn't on soundcloud, does anyone know where I could hear the whole thing?
Ah, I can see that. I find it to be a rather polarizing album by them since it has something to offer for both pop and noise enthusiasts. A 6.5/10 for me.
It's probably already been said here already, but the spoken word part on "Josie's Past" is read by Angela of Xiu Xiu from the Diary of Laura Palmer, which was written and released officially for Twin Peaks. I think she does a pretty good job of imitating Laura's voice, although it can be a bit grating.
Why when everyone mention all the genres that Twin Peaks mixes together they never discuss the comedy? What stood out to me the most the first time I watched that show was how genuinely hilarious it could be at times.
Yea at times it totally feels like a soap opera parody
Cal didn't die, he went to the Black Lodge.
Who's to say he hasn't been from the Black Lodge this whole time?
How about that season three though?
The Best Teeth in the Game took his place as his doppleganger
The gum you like to xiu xiu is going to come back in style
You didn't even mention how the album loops the end of the final song leads right into the opening of the first.
I frequently listen to it on loop. It's perfect.
Nonagon Infinity opens the door...nonagon infinity opens the door.
It's interesting because you could argue that Twin Peaks' first 2 seasons are a time loop. Dale dreams at the beginning that he's an old man 25 years into the future and then at the final episode he enters the Red Room where he waits 25 years and appears in his own dream

Yes!!!
the reversed voice at 3:06 fits nicely into the twin peaks theme lol

Anthony has also killed me too, came into my house and while I wasn’t looking took me out. God bless Anthony fantano

- Packard's Vibration
- Nightsea Wind
5:20 - Blue Frank / Pink Room
5:50 - Sycamore Tree
- Harold's Theme
- Dance of the Dream Man
2:54 - Falling
- Love Theme Farewell
6:34 - Josie's Past

Agree with you so much, I had the pleasure of seeing Xiu Xiu play the Twin Peaks soundtrack in full in a tiny church in east London and nearly cried
That's some damn fine coffee 10/10

Love how people are telling him to review it a day after it came out and if he did butt hurt drake fans would be saying he didn't take enough time to listen to it...
tbh i fucking hate views. Honestly dont know why people are getting of to that shit.
Y'all tripping on the views hate.. Hype, weston road flows, still here, feel no ways, one dance, Grammys, child's play, pop style, too good & not mention hotline bling r all 🔥🔥🔥
+Hank Atkinson garbage pandering shit rap pop garbage gabrage fbagrag abgager
Hahahahaha
On the song Josie's past it's a diary entry from the book " the secret diary of Laura Palmer"
On the last track, Josie's Past, the spoken word part is from "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer," a spin-off novel written by David Lynch's daughter.
EVERYONE
PolyVinyl just announced a repress of this album on clear/white vinyl, so don't worry if you missed it on RSD.
Oh my fucking God!! I just finished watching Twin Peaks! I gotta check this out!
I've seen them playing this material live - it was just fucking awesome.
Watch this album be the music of the 2017 continuation.
Noah Nelson I hope so
You were on the right track, it is a piece from Laura's diary. When they performed it live, they had the xylophone player come forward and read directly from the book.
That picture is Jack Nance, not David Lynch, from the Eraserhead poster.
+viralinfecticide beat me to it
+viralinfecticide He knew that. Eraserhead was directed by David Lynch.
How do you know he didn't know that?
Jesus of Cool Because Anthony was talking about the strange things that come from the mind of David Lynch. Jack Nance starred in Eraserhead, he didn't create it.
He was talking about David Lynch and showed a picture of Jack Nance. Those of us that are familiar with Eraserhead noticed it, but people who aren't might not.
You just made me buy the album without even listening to it.
dope
Where did you buy it? I can't find it anywhere
+Danny Worsfold Polyvinyl website

he did last year
+Lebrun Jemz oh ok cool. thanks.

+Synergy Mtn The joke went so far over your head I think it hit a Boeing.
I GOT THE REVIEW NOTES FOR THIS REVIEW!!! Thanks for sending them to me Anthony, it's awesome
Saw this live in Moscow last year. Awesome stuff.
LISTEN UP GUYS! He only wears that hat when he's giving a 9/10 or a 10/10 so we know beforehand
He wears the beanie when he's giving good ratings. He gave darkest before dawn a 7
Hip hop fans really come off as the worst
why tf do they even comment here if they don't listen to this music...? I listen to hip hop too but I'm just like, fuck off about views lmao
I agree. Anthony reviews a lot of Hip-Hop and often but he's not a Hip-Hop channel.
Unless it's really underground you don't even need to tell him to review it, he already knows about it otherwise more than likely.
+Bartholomule01 I agree.
+Ronald Steyn I second what Ronald said
rock fans are worse so u cant rly complain
The good Cal is in the Lodge
Fantano is the doppleganger
Thank you so much for introducing me to this album. My only regret with picking it up on the sixteenth was hearing that you missed out on that opportunity. It's a real RSD tragedy. All the sympathy to you.
man fantano it really sucks that all your comments are just a meme jambalaya. i still love your reviews though! (: ♡
I feel like 99% of the people that comment on needle drop are Kendrick fans that hate Drake lmfao.
+The Trilluminati good taste... even though drake makes really good bangers, kendrik is an experience.
BLOBLBOLBOBLOB BOTTOMLESS PIT LEAKED

SELEKTOR IS GAY DONT RESPOND TO HIS COMMENT
Anthony if you manage to still read comments this late I highly recommend Nicolas Jaar's Essential Mix from BBC Radio 1, the first 30 minutes or so is an ode to the soundtrack of Twin Peaks.
2019 has got some news for you
"LEAST FAV TRACK: HAROLD'S THEME"
WHAT!!!!!! that's one of the best tracks!!!
What other Xiu Xiu albums do you think I should check out to get into the band?
Glad you love it as much as I do! I bought it after hearing you talk about it (I love Twin Peaks, but had never heard of Xiu Xiu) - and I'm so pleased I did. Also: On Josie's Past, I may be wrong but I think it's Angelo Seo reading from the Diaries of Laura Palmer (a tie-in book written by Jennifer Lynch - David's daughter and director of Boxing Helena).
Giving a 9 to a cover album is unheard of
Y'all tripping on the views hate.. Hype, weston road flows, still here, feel no ways, one dance, Grammys, child's play, pop style, too good & not mention hotline bling r all 🔥🔥🔥
I could never get into them because of the vocals but I love the instrumentation. This is the antidote for me, fantastic experimental album.
I know it's a longshot that you review it, but that Kyle Craft album is awesome
Please review "Fallujah - Dreamless 2016"
It is a kind of atmospheric progressive metal record! very good production, check it out!
He reviewed the previous album "flesh prevails "
Demn I know, but this album is a total new wave of the band, the progression, the groove and ambient vibes. Everything about it is amazing! My favriote so far!
+Demn didn't he give The Flesh Prevails a 3/10? I doubt he'd like Dreamless any better
+Radhwan Jubair anthony doesn't like progressive metal. sorry dude
The nina album has been on the back of my mind since you did the review and I never got around to it, now I wish I did check it out a lot sooner
I felt like Laura's theme was a little too fast. Like it moves through each section pretty quickly. The rest of the album is incredible.
Not sure if you know that but Falling is a version of the Twin Peaks Theme written by Julee Cruise. That's why Jamie is singing there.
LET'S ROCK
Love twin peaks and was unaware xiu xiu did this. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Looking forward to the King Gizzard review
Would love a review of Nonagon Infinity, the new King Gizz record!
God I love Xiu Xiu, since Knife Play. Great to see it here.
what a time to be alive!!!!
I think you're right about Josie's Past. It definitely is from Laura Palmer's diary. Probably read it from a copy that you can buy in stores since the passage is much longer than anything read in the show.
Dude! I told you like 5 years ago that you were going to LOVE XiuXiu. Guess I was right :D
"Josie's Past" is indeed a reading of "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer" and as far as I can tell it's an original extract. Jennifer Lynch wrote it and it is very disturbing stuff. The album is awesome, though, you should see them performing the project live, I was blown away.
Since they are bringing the show back, will they be using this soundtrack?
this is the best year of 2016
+theneedledrop Josie Packard certainly had a history with the black lodge and with bob himself. They're taking pre-orders for the repress right now in case anyone was wondering.
Wouldn't expect you to give this any less
Twin Peaks music had dope music for real doh
I saw this live when it was at GOMA! Was pretty amazing.
congrats , you made me wanna listen to this!
I was hoping you would make this review!! As an avid Twin Peaks and Xiu Xiu fan I couldn't agree with you more on this. When I heard Laura Palmer's theme I was absolutely in awe :-)
Fucking hell that Jamie Impression got me.
Curious about your opinion on Haken's new album Anthony just listened to it and thought it was decent.
At 8:09, you sound a lot like Harlan Ellison reading I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Hahaha
Best album of 2016
I don't get why you make this record sound so enticing if I can't get it.
+bloop bloop You can get it on Polyvinyl's website.
it's getting another pressing don't worry
+theneedledrop thank you!
+rand42Studios there is no such thing as a wrong apinion

AOTY 2018
That new Pity Sex album, White Hot Moon is calling your name Anthony.
I picked this up on record store day and I'm so glad I did.
the last track is an excerpt from "the secret diary of laura palmer", incidentally created by jennifer lynch. kind of a weird read, but it's cool supplemental material
Views got 6,8 on Pitchfork... Imagine what Anthony will do with that piece of... art (?).
Anthony, were waiting for views!
Hey anthony. Just a casual fan of your videos, but consedering the nature of the album, are you a fan of Twin Peaks? Lucy Dacus No Burden review please! 85 on metacritic and one of my favorite albums of the year! It's short and worth your time Anthony
"And you're bawling like the baby in ERASERHEAD!!!"
DK's anyone?
Or their "All Fours" record? Sausagany pizzatano.... Youll love bosse de nage. Theyre experimental black metal and theyve gotta get reviewed effective immediately.
So goddamn happy with this album.
Thoughts on the new Andy Stott, Leon Vynehall, and Moderat?
Any chance of a Cult of Luna // Mariner review?
@TheNeedleDrop, would you consider doing Azizi Gibson projects reviews?
Thankyouthony in Advancano
Has fantano seen Twin Peaks The Return? I'm curious to see what he thinks of if
Bruh, you should review "Until the Horror Goes" from John Congleton and the Nighty Nite. It's been out for almost a month now, very interesting album
So many people are carried away, thanks for reviewing this novelty album. But I haven't found anywhere to listen to what isn't on soundcloud, does anyone know where I could hear the whole thing?
Anthony, I know you're overwhelmed with requests rn, but come on my friend, Impossible Kid
Does anybody know where to listen to the full album? I've only seen the two songs on Soundcloud
DUDE CMOON DROP THE REVIEW FOR VIEEEEEWWWWWSSSS MAN IM WAITING... LOVE YOUR VDS
Thank you for your time
Dear Anthony, will you review "hopelessness" by Anohni??
I hear so much about this show , I guess it's time for me to check it out
I'm completely unfamiliar with Xiu Xiu, but they sound fascinating. Which album(s) should I start with?
first three albums, everything after is meh to garbage. Unclouded sky is decent as well
+Jack Morgan What about Angel Guts: Red Classroom?
Spontamar I didn't like it too much, maybe a 5/10
Ah, I can see that. I find it to be a rather polarizing album by them since it has something to offer for both pop and noise enthusiasts.
A 6.5/10 for me.
Really want this on vinyl!!
When do we get that reVIEWS though ?
But where that VTF6 review though, straight fire
Glassesthany beanietano.... When are you going to review bosse de nages "iii" record?
It's probably already been said here already, but the spoken word part on "Josie's Past" is read by Angela of Xiu Xiu from the Diary of Laura Palmer, which was written and released officially for Twin Peaks. I think she does a pretty good job of imitating Laura's voice, although it can be a bit grating.
I've been hooked since I luv the valley oh
