these are 1 in a million lifetime excursions that I dream of taking......but being almost 60 now, I'll hold on to my dreams and live vicariously thru your vids......THANK YOU FOR POSTING.
I just did this today!!! Well worth the money!!! Our locomotive was a GP-40 freshly painted with the orange Royal Gorge line scheme! Lots to see! Very fun for us big kids who love our trains!!! Keep a sharp eye out for wildlife too! And YES THEY LET YOU BLOW THE HORN!!!!!!!!
Regarding this abutment at 09:08 what purpose did it serve? And was this not DRG&W trackage at one time. I see someone painted over their name on the hanging bridge. I could be wrong.
That's part of the old tenesee pass and it's been abandoned since the RG started operations. The only train that goes a little farther by maybe a mile or so is rock and rail.
UP still owns Tennessee pass and it technically isn't abandoned, it's out of service. They have it set up in a way that it can be placed back in service at any time, even though it most likely won't. It's shame to see a once highly trafficked mainline deteriorate to such a condition but I guess it's no longer economically practical!
@@hearsedriver302: That pipeline was actually completed in 1910, and completely relied on gravitation. No electrical or mechanical engineering was used to drive the water downstream towards the town. It served for 63 years, until 1973, when the water completely froze, damaging the pipeline itself.
Marcelo Model Trains well the engine that’s pulling this train IMO is 100 times better than those crappy f units. It’s the same engine in my profile which is a major part of my childhood. (No hate against the Fs I just love this engine too much lol)
Excellent footage, really enjoyed the cab ride view thank you! Here is a url to some footage from the Tairei Gorge railway journey over here in New Zealand - the gorge is a little deeper, oh the vid has been sped up too - there are some awesome passenger train journeys over here in New Zealand - come on over we'd love to have you! ua-cam.com/video/V1GEFVPz0qs/v-deo.html

Gerald Carroll nice to know they’ve got a geep now, painted as well. We’re all the passenger cars the same paint scheme too?
Do they still run those F units? Or are they retired? If they are, where are they stored and if I could see them?
Bruce Tharpe they still run, I got a cabride in locomotive 403 and C20 the same day
I wanna run, will they let you do that?
On the bucket list!!
That was so cool ...
Incredible!!!!!!
17 minutes In my favorite engine! She’s the same engine in my profile!
Awesome!
Bring back the K5LA horns
I've ridden the train 2 times and both were with the F7s

Why do trains go fast in some areas and slow in others? What factors determine speed?
Gradient, turns, inclination and slope
Do they let you honk the horn?
They do :)
AT 9:08 WHAT IS THAT IN THE RIVER?
Allan Love Jr there used to be an old bridge there. Never took down the pillars
16:26 why can’t they continue the way? They didn’t continue and we went back. Is it off limits?

I’m pretty sure UP still owns Tennessee pass

What's that girder bridge at 6:56? Looks to be an old railroad trestle
anaplat45 From what I remember, it's used for hikers, and I also believe it's part of a road for maintenance crews
There was an old water pipe running along the river that supplied the town with water till the 60s. That was a part of it.

A pity they withdraw the classic F7s of this train.
They might be working on them. They were about a hundred yards down the road past the station.
+Marcelo Model Trains I'm lucky the railroad I am an engineer at has 2 FP-7s that I drive more or less daily.

This is a ride train??. How do i get my tickets...what ages can kids ride free??
anthony 35 tickets can be ordered online, I don’t think kids can ride free
anthony 35 you can either buy tickets online or at the cañon city train depot. you kids we’ll need to be at least 13 years old to do a cabride.
what horn is that?
lel lolololllololololol 1774 I couldn't tell ya
K5LA (Nathan Airchime)
A gorgeous one, that's for sure! Nathan K5LA as stated by Brad)
The only reason I know is because VRE and Amtrak had same airhorns
