    "Silent darkness"
The whole map is based underground with multiple big caverns, each being centered around vertical movement, having different loot spawns such as one having clothes and civilian items, being the largest one, and the rest being centered around either farming or specific loot types such as guns, ammo, raiding equipment and crafting equipment. Zombies would be extra tough and would have above average drop rates, which would award players for killing them. The top of the map would be dark, like in the night of unturned while the bottom would be the same as going into a cavern with 0% brightness, sort of making a line between the top and bottom zone, where you'd only survive if you have a headlamp, flashlight, or nightvision. The higher tier loot spawns would be located in the bottom aswell, of course.

I picture the maps chart would show the underground areas albeit the chart-map itself would be looking wrinkled and such (and probably very rare of a spawn), whereas the GPS-satellite map would just show something like a forest above (or whatever else you could think of that'd still be fair). Swapping the rarities of chart and GPS map items.
Just a thought, it can make for some interesting gameplay.

I want to see an extremely mountainous map. A map where building on the apex of a mountain provides an advantage to those who build there, which results in the build spots being highly contested. There should also be large cave networks and mineshafts similar to rust, to provide a place for other groups to turtle their bases, hoping to fly under the radar of those fighting for the top of the world. I feel like it’d be a cool idea.

(I somewhat disagree with myself now, some points still stand, but others don't. I'm too lazy to go in and rewrite this comment, but Elver (which was directly inspired by this video) has shown that a combination of some of these concepts can work)
As a curated map maker (worked on Rio de Janeiro) I hear what you're saying, and I wish the Curated map maker community could do more to create interesting concepts. I'd love to create a map with a section that is on fire, like you suggested, however, the reason why stuff like this hasn't been added is due to Unturned being closed source. Modders cannot add any code to the game, and Nelson doesn't want to add any more content. Modders are forced to work with the same tools that we've always been working with. We can ask Nelson for some new minor features (which he usually adds after 2 or 3 months, that's what the majority of the last updates have been) but he won't go so far as to add new game mechanics like you're asking for. To give you an idea of what modders can actually add. Resources, (Bushes, Trees, Metal Nodes) Clothing, Guns, Ambience, (Background sounds), Animals, (This does not mean zombies) Objects and Effects. (Particle Effects, though also some sounds) As you can see, it's rather limited. We can definitely get creative, and a lot of people try to break the norm, but part of this lack of creativity is due to Nelson, some of the more outlandish maps (Like Candyland) are "Featured", and not actually officially supported. Nelson tries to keep the core game experience close to the Vanilla maps, Dango is so far the only exception.
Curated maps are the only thing that is keeping Unturned alive at the moment, and we're trying to do the best we can to keep the experience at least somewhat interesting. For most of us, the creative process is what we enjoy most, not the gameplay of the map. Most mapmakers don't want to pump a load of time into a project that's not going to be played, even if that's not their primary motivation to make a project.
As for your concepts; Metropila is interesting but ultimately flawed, a map like this might as well be an Arena map, as that is the only kind of gameplay this kind of map will ever receive. Most New players will be gunned down in an instant due to not being able to gain the necessary equipment to survive, due to early birds camping all the loot spots. Highway 51 shares the same problem, except it wastes space even more and exacerbates the problems I outlined with Metropila.
Isles of Agony is very interesting, I think given the right execution this map could actually work, however, I highly doubt this due to how most players like to play the game. Most people would camp one island, and never move. They'd have all the resources they'd ever need, and very quickly get bored of exploration. It would become the ultimate base raiding simulator due to that being the only thing left to do besides getting shot.
Water World shows the most potential, as gameplay like Subnautica could be introduced, however, it is not possible to make this map interesting without Nelson adding more content to the game. Animals currently cannot swim, meaning no aquatic animals could be added. No new zombies will ever be added to 3.x, meaning the player can just fly over them in the water. Some maps are looking into adding more underwater content in order to give the map a more lively feel, however, I don't think a map set purely underwater could be plausible/fun, most players would probably quit relatively fast.
Worlds Apart would run into the same problem that the Driftless ran into, players would have no incentive or will to travel back to the other side of the map once they've crossed the sea, as they have everything they need on that side of the map. I'm assuming each side would have Civilian and Military loot? If so then that would cause players to never leave either side, if one side didn't have this loot then it would immediately put all players on that side at a disadvantage and would give players on the other side no reason to travel to that side of the map. When was the last time you headed further south than Moscow when playing Russia?
Edit: Happy Holidays Manoman, I hope you don't take this as an attack towards you, I've posted this on the SDGforums, hopefully, some interesting points are brought up, here's a link to the thread. forum.smartlydressedgames.com/t/unturned-has-a-map-problem-manoman/13149

The worlds apart could work if each of the sides had some resourse or equipment that is only avaliable on one of the sides. Like military gear on one side and ranger on the other. Or raw explosives only spawning on one side and grenades and glue only spawning on the other side.

    • @somerandomfoo1723
      @somerandomfoo1723 4 роки тому +40

Isles of Agony could most definitely work, if one island has all the military gear on the map, one island has the majority of food, another has all the map's ranger gear, another island will be a dead zone, and maybe one more will have all the miscellaneous stuff like construction loot and maybe a mine, which would be the only source of metal rocks on the map. This will mean your squad will have to choose which island to prioritize and set up on, and fight any competition on that island. For example say your squad fights to gain dominance over the military loot island, well in order to get a stable source of food youd have to either ally with or fight for control over the island with animals and farmlands. This could promote really interesting faction-esk gameplay.

A “tier-based” map where everyone starts out at the edge of the map and has to work their way to the core using stuff like diving gear and gas masks, where higher tier loot awaits.
The first tier is the very perimeter of the map, carrying very basic loot seen in farms and campgrounds, like bows and hunting rifles.
The second layer contains all the stuff you would see in cities such as your typical gun store an police station weaponry along with a good amount of hardware. You can only access this by getting proper diving gear and surviving the long underwater journey through completely flooded tunnels.
The third layer has all the goodies you would find at a military base with a mixture of military and ranger issued gear. The only way to get here is by going through a dead zone path, which there would be a lot of. But they’re all dead zones with a lot of risk (other than the radiation) and no reward other than passage into the level 3 zone.
Level isn’t like the others, but rather a dead zone deep underwater, which is an underwater Scorpion-7 weapons development base that went abandoned, causing many bioweapons inside to go off and turn the whole base into a dead zone. The other experimental weapons that could be used remained and are free for the taking of anyone willing to make the journey. It is plagued by bosses but some seriously good loot spawns there, which is the loot that you can only find in airdrops-until now. You could find Devil’s Bane, Hell’s Fury, RPGs, and grenade launchers among other airdrop weapons in here. It has extremely great risk and great reward.

I have an idea, it’s basically:
2 cities containing multiple POIs, connected by an underground tunnel. Outside of these cities and tunnel, the entire map is irradiated. (As far as the player knows that is).
Edit: You would spawn in one of the two cities which would contain areas to get gear to go out into the dead zone. The safe area would be the cities plus a small area around them, additionally, another thing could be NPCs which give you quests, such as finding certain items and they provide you with filters and maybe XP to buy off of vendor NPCs

A map where the entire surface is a deadzone, caused by some military incident. All major cities have been turned into military outposts, meaning there is high tier loot all over the surface, but players wouldn't be able to survive without a gasmask and filters. This would force players to retreat into a massive cave/sewer/metro system underground, where the tight, dark corridors would mean you could get ambushed at any second. Players would have to mine scrap in order to build their bases within the spacious railway systems, and the introduction of some giant, place-able radiation filter would allow for colonization above ground.

Worlds Aparts is kinda like driftless tho
    My concept for a map:
Looks like a normal map from the surface BUT almost all the locations are connected by a complex cave system that goes throughout the whole map. There would be underground locations that spawn more of the end game loot. Basically I wanted the underground to be kind of like a battleground for the players that are in the end game. You would obv need some source of light to explore and travel by underground.

-Finland:There would be a lot of lakes since Finland has a lot of them and it's being called "the land of thousand lakes".
The south would be where Helsinki and other cities would locate, the north would be a frozen wildness where palyer's could build their bases. Aland(Finnish island in the Baltic Sea) would be the largest island with a big city in it.
-Cuba: Being the whole island with it's cities.
-Nepal: A mountanous map where most of the cities located in the flat areas. The top of the mountain the Mount Everest would be a place with good loots.
-Australia: Most of it(mostly in the West) would be a desert while one of the coners of the map(Northeast) would be a mountain while another one(Southeast) would be the place with the most cities.
-Vietnam: Yeah, I know... But I' mean a jungle map with a few cities and villages wont be a bad idea.
-Congo: The map is the same as the Vietnam one, exept there's a river flowing throught the map called the Congo River. Along it would be the most cities and the best spots to loot.
    And finally:
Egypt: The map is a big desert. Along the Nile would have the rurest and most populated areas. The desert would be just a sandy wasteland with some pyramids which perhaps would have a lot of loot.

An Unturned desert map would be a great counterpart to Yukon. My idea of a desert map would force the player to worry about sun/heat stroke necessitating them to find shelter to cool down (like Yukon), additionally, your hydration is now more important as it decreases faster compared to other maps meaning canteens and such are vital pieces of kit (if they weren't already).
Let's go with your idea of using Egypt, perhaps we can combine it with a smaller version of "worlds apart" (to represent the Nile, rivers can make pretty large gaps between their river banks).

    My idea: Vallejo
What’s it like: A Long ravine cutting through the earth. Served as a mining center but has since been abandoned. Small boom towns line the borders of the ravine with the mines in the cliff faces.
Think of it as a debate on where to go. In the Ravine, or on top.
The top has several small and medium sized Boom towns but have a large amount of zombies in them.
The ravine doesn’t have much in terms of loot but little to no zombies are in there.
The caves are thin and posses zombie miners in them. But the caves also contain some good stuff to loot.
Either stay in the Ravine where it’s safe but watch out for the caves.
Or stay up too and get the best loot. But deal with a ton of zombies.

a lot of small, cramped cabins scattered around the map with huge rivers and a middle lighthouse with a large FOV could offer a unique experience, as players rush at the tower and get picked off by snipers and automatics, with a lot of options to arrive to the middle and sneak in.
huge, very tall office buildings with a ton of floors, varying in height and size with many items scattered in the remains of a great corporation with few bridges and a huge first floor with a small, or no outside world surrounded by fence could have a unique "rationing" style of play, or a kind of "capture and defend" style

Map in space! A space station with a new type of alien enemy or some sort of testing room where all the special zombies were created. It’d be completely filled to the brim with zombies but would be dynamic and you could close doors to stop them from going to certain areas. There’d be a boss zombie that could open doors and youd have to kill it before he did too much damage. The space station would be split in sections containing different things ie: an armory for weapons, Hospital for meds, recreational room for clothing etc. And they would be in a circle so you would have to travel through multiple ones to get to where you want to be. So the best ones would be further away so the infirmary and the armory would be opposite sides. You could find space suits and oxygen tanks to go outside the base into 0 gravity and fly to where you want to be instead of travelling through the station. There would be no zombies outside but you would have very little time to get where you need. This could honestly even be a little story mode for single player or co-op where you have to enable a bunch of things like solar panels and find fuel for an escape pod. The map would get pretty claustrophobic so a lot of windows will let you see players on other parts of the ship without being able to shoot each other.

    Abandoned:
A map design based in the cold reaches of Canada. You would spawn in a campsite with a dead player in a biohazard suit at a spot off to the left of you. There would be little areas of lootable resources, thus making you have to makeshift weapons tools and other types of needful things. There would be a freezing effect where you would need to be by a campfire or have warm clothing (I.e plaid longslevee with some jeans and beanie or toque.)
This effect would slowly freeze you to death until you have appropriate clothing or are by a warm area like a fire or a flare or inside a building that has the doors closed. There would also be a blizzard every in-game week, which drops the tempature, making freezing effects kill you faster, cause a blindscreen limiting your eyesight substantially and making encounters with other live things all the more terrifying, and it would cause all vehicles to jam up if not used for a while. There isn't any food found in the stores or houses to animals having picked it off before you got to that area, and all bottled drinks would have to be melted in a pot over a fire. There is a river with numerous tributaries sprawling from the main river allowing for clean drinking water.
    Points of interest:
There would be numerous small campsites littered around the map with basic loot like headlamps, axes and flashlights and everything in between.
There could be one to three small towns with one having a gas station making it a higher priority town and other players would either make it into a store where people barter things to get gas using things such as water, meat, ammunition, weapons etc. There would also probably be selfish players who would block off the entire thing making have gas impossible unless you have a pump jack.
Might be a medium or marginally bigger sized town compared to the ones above, which might have a gun store, cars, gas station, mall, restaurants and this would make it top priority of the players view due to the military base having increased zombies and they all have more health.
A Deadzone would cover the entire top left and in the far corner would be a laboratory with higher tech weapons (shadowstalkers, bigger bombs, and just beefier guns, along with better armor and other useful things to help you with fights and going against zombies.) Seeing as how this is a deadzone there wouldn't be and bases made inside and there would probably be tons of markets making a deal on necessities given by adventurers going into the deadzone for loot and in exchange filters and gas masks, some of which could have been used making it a scam and then have people use low filters.
A military base with chances to spawn a gas mask along with filters for it so you can venture out to the deadzone, and there would be some lower tech weapons such as regular firearms like the heartbreaker or peacemaker. There would also be vehicles here and chances to spawn a helicopter. Basically Olympia military base but remodeled.
Finally there would be frozen lakes which would make for great PvP fights from long range.
    Zombies:
There wouldn't be to many around due to the desolate nature of the map, but they would usually be found in groves at the lab in the deadzone, and be tougher to kill at the military base for obvious reasons, and there would be the normal zombies at the campsites and the towns. There would also be a mega zombie at the laboratory and chances for one at the military base.
    Vehicles:
There would be obvious vehicles to use in the snow which would be here like snowmobiles and snow cats, like the ones in the old map, the Yukon. There could also be some regular sorted cars like vans, sedans, and trucks but not many because of their unreliability to do well in heavy snow. At the military base, like I said, there would either be a hummingbird or a transport helicopter. There would be military snowmobiles which just would have more armor.
    The Animals:
This one I'm not going to spend much time talking about because you know which would place lower or higher in the animal hierarchy. Bears would roam around the entire map making everywhere unsafe besides the frozen lake where bears don't go. Wolves will be in packs of up to 5 depending on the amount that had spawned and they would be put loosley around the forests and be put in higher concentration around the cities and interests.
Deer, elk, moose would all be sources of food and they would be your only source as a matter of fact, (also wolves and bears and fish) , and since they are these will be mainly put around the entire map but would usually be by frozen lakes and larger plains as well as rivers. Then we have the Deadzone animals and all they are the wolf and the bear but with red/orange eyes and are not edible unless your willing to sacrifice 10 immunity for 20 food, which would only be when it's cooked, and when raw it's 40 immunity for 10 food. There would also be some fish in the river which is fine and edible and the species would be trout, Pike, salmon, and a Pollock.
The main points making it not a normal map:
The map would be snow covered, and pretty barren and the main things making it much different from the main maps would be the fact that there isn't any regular canned or human made food, and you have to go hunt for it, the freezing effect, and the mutant animals.
EDIT: Fixed spelling errors and Grammer errors but I am on mobile so thats expected.

There could be a map where there is a valley stretching from centre east to South the southwest with an ocean in the southwest corner, the valley would get wider the further west it was. In the valley would be nearly all the points of interest, cities on the coast and farms and lodges and such in the eastern parts of the valley. It would also have a couple military bases. In the south and south east would be a pinewood forest without any points of interest and no roads and only some hiking trails. The deeper you would go into the forest the denser and more hilly it would get an the less trails there would be. There would only be some campsites, tents and small cabins. There would also be a few crashed airplanes and helicopters.
On the northern edge would be a mountain range which would progressively get higher and colder the further north you went and there would be some cabins, a cave system that would also connect with the forest In some places and an underground military base which would be a deadzone. The special feature of the map would be that every 1-3 hours the sea level would rise for 20 mins which would either force the players into the higher parts of the forest or the mountains where they would need to have sufficient materials to survive. During the high tide ships might wash up along with other loot, but it would also bring out a very powerful zombie that would wander through the valley for another 20mins until it would return to the ocean. The large zombie could sense players from very far away and would release a swarm of all kinds of other zombies which would follow it and attack any players.

There was something like 10 regions in the map, each being totally different and unique from each other. One was a volcano, there was a forest and desert, and so on. The coolest part of the map was that all of the islands were unconnected. It was up to the player to create their own connecting bridges and structures. Map idea: Mysteria, a medieval fantasy island that consists of 2 villages, no modern tech, an abandoned zombie-infested kingdom, deadzoned dungeons, dangerous monsters with super abilities, quests, and the uses of medieval armor and weaponry.

This map contains of 2 layers the first layer will be a post apocalyptic world with a big city in the middle and in that city there are several secret way to go to the second layer (The secret way probably in building, military base)
The second layer will be an underground city, which will be separated to be a several district like the flooding district ,the fire district ,the hazardous district
And in order to get to those district you will need special equipment that you can get from the first layer

I thought of a map that has a large impassable mountain in the middle, and everything is as usual. The difference here is that you can't go straight to the other side of the map, you always have to go around the mountain and eventually you will find players, or worse!

I would love a map based in the Gobi or Sahara, where there was maybe one large city near the spawn and a couple of separated small villages off in the dunes. Maybe an oasis or gem mine. Useing a large subway system and scattered mines there could be a large underground zone to make up for the lack of surface areas. Water could get used faster while a nice ground too.

A giant cave system, point of interests are open spots where explorers have settled down but obviously the zombies have taken over which forced the police and later the militairy to take action which both failed leaving militairy and police outposts behind
The map is very dark so you need some form of light with you, GPS doesn't work unless you're standing in pockets of light coming from openings in the roof of the cave

My map concept would be a former battlefield with trenches, encampments and ruins everywhere. The map would be halved by some sort of nomansland where there is just nothing and the two sides would have completely different equipments (because of the two factions). The trick of the map would be that loot is abundant but the clothing would only have a small amount of storage, maybe that guns cant be reloaded but are commenplace. There can be some bunkers with immobile weapons which could be reloaded or maybe some guns you can carry in pieces like a raidin mg where you would need a tripod the gun and the ammo and craft it together to be placed.
This idea could be expanded with things like mortars, cannons and the like.
There would be some areas where there are hoards of zombies that have been striped of clothes by fire-bombing and just wait for someone to walk by to get mauled.
There can be city's which are reduced to nothing but corpses of houses and all the streets are broken.
Please tell me your thoughts and opinions on this.

I remember working on a modded map but never finishing it, it consisted of two islands, one was a big island with two major docks and a city that would spawn civilian equipment, a walled settlement that long since fell, which would spawn a few military equipment, then a military base with a fallout vault, that was going to be a big pvp zone for good loot, the second island was a Russian safe haven that had walls of sihppping containers, a castle in the center, which would have spawned Russian equipment, the entire map had lighting effects where areas were flicking with lights and lots of aesthetic world building from wreckages

a map filled only with jungle, and hidden abandoned fortresses (not built by players) with high-end military weaponry and armor inside. there could also be a storyline, like what if military took over and then the apocalypse took place, and there are small military tents everywhere like little supply points where you can go and get food, medicine, etc. that would honestly be kind of fun to explore, find the secrets and fight off huge hordes of zombies near the fortresses.

A Map that is like Iceland, It would have Mountains stretching sky-high some that would be covered by snow and where freezing is a risk. But we're also smaller and bigger maze like Cave networks would hide that would have useful resources or some of them would be Deadzones. Valleys would be also scattered around the map with only a few Road systems that would lead to small towns. Houses, trees and Guns should be quite rare.
    Sorry for the bad english

I know I'm late and whatnot, but hey! I love giving ideas so,
Perhaps, a new turn to a zombie apocalypse-- making it feel like it isn't so alive.
What about an outskirts of portland, the portland outskirts could be a huge huge interest point, but could be hard to navigate in, some areas are going to need gas masks, but farther from the outskirts lies a NPC town, which is made out of a underground mall, where NPCs can perhaps give you rescue missions, or retrieval of items.
The map can also keep the PVP aspect, since the middle of the town of the portland outskirts only has a few radiation zones, but keeps itself good with buildings which you can get on, and a highway which is almost collapsed- and more!
The map is themed to encourage you to use the crafting feature, to make makeshift weapons and contest other players, or parts of the map.

I am currently working on a large sized map where it’s mostly water because it’s a lake, and military and ranger locations are dead zones (albeit for some small locations there are ranger items). It’s mainly focused on stripping players from weapons and food. Mansions are present all over the lakeside but they are heavily infested and contain civilian loot, there’s only one main location to get military weapons and that is a small coast guard shack, but multiple crashed jets have some loot. The main idea is to make it so that you have to actually build. You have to fish, you have to chop down trees, you have to survive. There’s only 3 main towns but two are dead zones and one is almost barren, ranger/militia locations are deadzones as well, like a infested bunker or a farm where a milita group was. You also have npcs scattered around the map, in their own small huts and not huddled together.

I had an idea similar to "isles of agony" in which there are a bunch of Islands, every single one is dangerous, (in it's way for example one is really cold and one really hot) except for one which only has low tier loot.

A map set inside a metro and the surface is a giant deadzone, with a chart you can only see the surface, and metro maps would be on walls and such, there would also be a story line including more than just friendly npcs (like have a bandit place that's enemies with the survivors outpost)

Hong Kong essentially, a few very urban islands that are connected by very few bridges making them control points. To keep with lore, some islands are destroyed from the zombies while others were defended but later abandoned. Trees are very seldom, being restricted to parks and maybe some sidewalks. There are multiple military bases with different nationalities which would spawn different items based on the base’s nation. The deadzone would be a shipwreck that you would need to enter underwater and navigate about half of the interior underwater as well. Maybe a large airport and a theme park for some other points of interest. Idk

I think I have some interesting map ideas for Unturned.
    1. A map where civilian/police grade weaponry are common, while military (aka good shit) would be very rare.
    2. A map where resources are limited; causing players to team up into factions to evenly distribute resources.
    3. A map where survival is a MAJOR key objective. This could either be with temperature, food, or even land itself. (Possible locations where either of these objectives could be are... Egypt (temperature), South Sudan (or any other 3rd world country) for resources, and island nations (land)
That is all, but I don't think that this should only be kept for 3.0. But rather also for 4.0/II.

Las Vegas, the map is inspired by spec ops the line where las vegas were destroyed by massive Sandstrom. roads are mostly unusable and the player has to keep cool or risk dying on thirst or heat stroke. During the night it become cold and you must seak heat. Some sandstorms come and destroy or damage player structures. Animals are scare and so is water, there could be area 51 that's a dead zone where all good tier loot is. There are no farms and you must use grow beds to grow crops which are rare spawns. There are military convoys where you can find scattered on what remains of roads. Nellis AFB is the local HQ of the Collation and Bellagio is HQ for a looter faction.

The Wilderness, a map that is Large sized that is purely a forest, with weapons, resources, food and other needed equipment is hidden around the forest, in either caves or small encampments.
The map would encourage exploration, in order to have everything you'd need to travel vast distances and vehicles of any kind would not be possible unless maybe through an elaborate quest implemented. This would not be a map for those who have neither patience or time to sit down and work to survive on this map.
