I put my girl Jezebel to rest 2 weeks ago. She was a Border Collie German Shepherd mix. She had all of those great traits. She herded kids and endured my cat Stink. We spent many hours hiking together and I always had her off leash on local trails. She had a 50m off leash connection and always stayed in that. She kept my friends kids on trail and close, behaving better than most of the kids. She was always on guard, eager to point out anything of interest. She did her fair share of killing...squirrels, wild turkeys and chipmunks, yet we sat and watched 3 generations of foxes raising kits and herds of deer at the Sifton bog without her leaving my side. She was a calm role model for some of my neighbour's dogs too. From putting a young rottie in his place, to calming a neglected beagle, she was friendly to any dog, or child she met. She made my role as leader so much easier since she was such a smart dog. She mumbled, whispered, smiled, barked and we howled together to John Lee Hooker. My time with her has inspired me to help pet owners to understand what our dogs want and need. Clear leadership, consistent and unconditional love... Funny how that is what we all, as humans, thrive on.

Megzie my tricolour border was 18 possibly 19 when we lost her she was a rescue and seemed so greatful to have a loving home a beautiful loyal dog!

my parents border collie taught himself to ring the doorbell when he wants back in. and he will whisper-bark when it's late and quiet time. nobody taught him these things. when he's got an itch he'll take your hand and put it where he's itchy. just like a cat when he seen a laser pointer too.

Border Collies are so intelligent and clever though. Having said that my Border Collie, Chloe 🐻 bear, she's not as intelligent as some of the doggies on here. In fact she's literally barking mad but I love her so much and she makes me laugh! She's so affectionate too 🐾👅🐾🐾🐻🐶🦴❣️❣️❣️

I have trained Stock Dogs, primarily Border Collies for 30 years. The things in this video are such a very small part of Border Collie behavior. There is no way to describe all the crazy things I have seen Border Collies do. I am down to just a few Border Collies at the moment, only 12, they are the absolute best of what I have bred and bought, they are often smarter than I am. If I could teach one to drive the pickup, I would never have to get out of bed to check and feed the cattle. There is nothing in the world like spending your life with Border Collies. Every single day they teach you something new. When working with Border Collies, you should never think you have learned enough because they will humble you very quickly. Approach each day as if you know nothing and let the dogs teach you all the things you do not know and they will. Most important, Border Collies have a vast vocabulary, much bigger than other breeds. Learn to listen with your eyes. They will tell you their life story if you learn the language and learn to listen to them.
