Mystery Spot! My dad grew up right in front of it (and me a few miles away). Really cool to see in this context. I hope it remains safe from the apocalyptic hellscape that the Santa Cruz mountains are at the moment :-(
It appears this footage would be from 1942 filmed while Ed was working on his tower at Rock Gate, At this point of time I believe Ed was still living/sleeping in his wooden shack that he transported from Ed's Place...
*I've been to Coral Castles (in 1986) and back then, no fences around stuff, and you could still open the large balanced gate-door (however, the "lazy susan" type bearings under it were failing.) It took a hand push, not a finger push, to open. Now i understand you're not allowed to touch it due to "safety reasons." Overall, a pretty cool place. As a trivia note, a 1960 "porno" movie called Nude on the Moon was filmed here. Very campy but you see that the place is indeed Coral Castles. Now I live about 30 miles from the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot, and I'm not sure it's there anymore given the fires of Aug. 2020.*
Interestingly, there's one such person in every country - the Castle of Facteur Cheval in France, the Wooden Skyscraper (Sutyagin House) in Russia, the scrap iron aerodrome and full-one-to-one scap-iron airplanes made by a farmer - Xiaoxiao Xu - in China and so on. I'm sure people who've lived elsewhere can add their own exaples
@@ZenZaBill It is the piece he made for the admission money, on the face it says ADM. 10 c DROP BELOW, There is a pipe in the middle of the sculpture where visitors could drop their ten cent pieces in. I have heard this was donated to the Coral Castle in 1986 as Ed originally left it behind at his first place "Ed's Place" So I'm just curious if it actually was there the month you were... Thanks!
@@Onesfear I can't recall the 10-cent "admission" pipe to dro a coin into. I was there in March 1986 to catch sight of Halley's comet and visit Cape Kennedy. Perhaps the pipe came later in the year?

I grew up about twenty miles south of the Mystery Spot. I was surprised to see it. I remember going there when I was a little kid with my grandpa.

Hello ZenZaBill, did you by chance notice if the ADM sign was at the Rock Gate/coral castle location yet when you were there?
@@Onesfear "ADM" ?? What is that?
