As fantastic, stupendous, and spectacular as Depardieu was in this wonderful film, it's his role as Cyrano de Bergerac in the filmed version of that epic play that is his jewel in the crown. It's as though he were born to play Cyrano. Cyrano is one of my favorite movies ever, an unforgettable experience. And this one is not too bad, either.
Aah Cyrano de Bergerac, it's been years since I've seen that one. Need to watch it again some time. Also, don't forget Dépardieus role as the count of Monte Cristo :)
The music is from Le bourgeois gentilhomme. A musical play, making fun of a business man playing at being a gentleman. Its from a brief dance routine prior to the entrance of the Mufti to make M. Jourdain a Mamamushi. It is a total farce ending in M. Jourdain allowing his daughter to marry her sweetheart. The sweetheart is pretending to be a Turkish prince and Jourdain is duped into allowing the marriage.

Lullly died from gangrene caused by hitting his foot with his conducting staff (I believe he was seated at the time). He refused to have have his leg amputated because that would mean he would never dance again. I hope dancers and dance fans admire him for being a martyr to the art of dance!

Il a établi un style, en opposition avec les opéras italien roucoulés à cette époque par des castrats, ou des roles d'hommes sont tenus par des femmes, et vice-versa.Il a établi et fait règner la voix du haute-contre à la française. qui n'est ni un ténor, ni un sopraniste, ni un castrat, ni un contre-ténor. Les italiens n'étaient pas rebutés que le rôle d'Hercule, par exemple soit chanté par un castrat, gros et grand qu'à peine il puisse tenir debout, car les pieds des castrats restaient des pieds d'enfant, ainsi que les mains, le larynx et la tète, minuscules...... C'était impensable pour la France , de castrer les enfants trouvés , sitôt qu'ils avaient une belle voix.(Naples, spécialisé dans cette pratique) Il faut s'intéresser un peu aux choses , en profondeur!
