I made this video for the website to showcase the current pre-alpha gameplay for Project Feline!
Project Feline is a third-person anime-style action adventure game being developed independenty by Australian developer/artist/musician, Raymond Cripps.
- Ride on walls & grind rails to traverse complex environments!
- Chain wall-runs, jumps, rail-grinds and power slides to maintain momentum!

@@kalimbers1475 It is currently undetermined as to where Project Feline will release, as this will depend on production and budget constraints. The game is currently being developed for Windows. Yo Raymond, I know this is just Pre-Alpha, but I’m loving it so far! Can’t wait to see more of it!
Aside from polish, my only real suggestion of improvement would be to animate the double jump separately from the regular jumps.. Since it’s a parkour game, I’d imagine it’d be very useful for the player to know if they have the double jump available or not.
I’m not sure what you’re saying. Do you mean to have a separate double jump animation, or to have a visual indicator of if you have your double jump left? (Both of those seem like good ideas to me)
@@bell2023 Pretty sure he's referring to making the falling animation different between the standard jump and the aerial one, thereby giving a visual indication that you have a double jump.
Not exactly necessary. If you had multiple aerial jumps, it'd be different. But only having one kind of makes it unneeded. I don't see this becoming a substantial issue for the vast majority of players.
@@bell2023 I meant the first one, to have a separate animation for the second jump, but both seem pretty good tbh.
I think having the lights on the legs fade slightly would be a good indicator of having a double jump left, with them glowing again once you land, and having some type of exhaust or puff of smoke come out from the feet makes sense as an animation for using a double jump.
Again he is focusing on game mechanics + He's on a break for now. But hey thats a good suggestion!
So far the only thing that stands out to me is that gabbi's grinding animation is less lively than her other ones
i think that a nice solution to that is adding a knee bending animation, it would make the impact more real
On a similar note, the transition from wall running to jump feels very awkward - I feel like it works from her grounded animations, but wall running to the jump pose feels too abrupt

I agree but if you have been following his development streams then you prob know that for him game mechanics are the first priority.Heck, he just finished a ledge grab! (With a Tpose as an animations but it works)

just a personal opinion, i miss the old skating and wall slide animations. the wall running looks weird to me xD

Only on the wall riding though, I think the running is better
it's really amazing! Raymond, you still have a lot of work to do, and I believe in you. Your project inspired me a lot
I like it so far! Only issue i have is that some of the animations feel too static for the high speed the game tries to bring. The grinding animation should have her bend her knees for example and then wind in her hair. For making it look natural, a noise modifier on the animation curve can sometimes help. Also the double jump and slide feel a bit empty.
Loving the music - dnb with strings - reminds me of the GITS:SAC OSTs for some reason and I love how well it fits here.
Reminds me a little of that water stage in sonic riders zero gravity and I'm vibing hard!
Over the past year, I have being watching those videos and DevLogs, this is so inspiring.
Have being studying a lot and spent AT LEAST 4 hours per day in my game project (Because I work, I don't have much time as I want it).
Hope someday I can make my game as good as yours.
My God this looks amazing! Seriously like something straight out of my head. I do miss the skating animations, I think it could be cool if you had the running animation blend into the skating animation as your speed gets hugger. With that said, obviously I’m not the one putting my heart and soul into making this thing, so ultimately what you like should ultimately be the deciding factor.
Been following since the player model creation. God damn this had already come along way. And this is pre alpha!
I have been following this project from the moment you started sculpting Gabby. I remember that day so clearly, and I can't wait until the full release. I can't wait to play the whole thing!

I just started playing yesterday and I’m loving the game soooo much, I just have 2 slight criticisms: I think Gabby should be able to vault off and over boxes and climb walls. But seriously you have inspired me so much, great work, dude!

Looks really good! But the rail slide animation is a little stiff, maybe make the arms wobble?

This looks super solid! I can imagine people (if allowed) creating super fun courses with this and getting really good
I came two years late and watching the previous devlogs I realized how much you care about your supporters so heres what i wanna say. A dash animation with a pose similar to skydiving (i have a good feeling that ur doing this). Maybe a way to control the speed on rails so if u hold forward u go faster and if u hold back you go slower.(I have not played the game because I’m an apple user) but I’d still like to support the game. Lastly, i just wanted to say I’m a big fan of sonic, and if feels nice watching someone mention him in a good light.
Question: Nekos don’t have whiskers, why does Gabi?

A little suggestion to let the player read the screen and make decisions at the speed this game intends to move.
Make grindable surfaces stand out a bit better.
For instance that yellow crane. If not for this trailer I would have not thought by looking at it that the top could be grinded on.
What I would do in this situation is make all the grindable surfaces a single color, think mirror's edge.
I hope that was clear I have trouble conveying ideas sometimes. If you have any questions about what I mean I'd be happy to answer. I've been a hobbyist game dev since the first Xbox.

I've been following this game for so long and can't believe how far it's come.
If I might offer a suggestion, if you could dynamically change the focal length of the camera to match her speed, this gameplay could look and feel even faster.

tTHIS look so dope, my personal suggestion would be jumping animation though, like flailing animation or so
i think it could look really nice if when gabbi makes a sharp turn she slides during the turn a bit, like shes on rollerskates! it could help a lot with movement and making sure everything feels smooth and parkour-y

Ya know, it really is starting to look like future of gaming is going to be strongly indie and maybe AA projects like Nier Automata.
I mean, I’m more hyped for this than I am any known AAA release at the moment.
But I guess when most AAA stuff I’ve heard of is sequels to series I never got into, remasters, and generally uninspired sounding projects, a new, fun looking, sci-fi parkour game featuring an adorable cat girl looks even sweeter.
Also if you're planning to make this game on offiical consels you should make a mobile app for Android or iOS
This is awesome... But I think the low frame rate style affects the feels of it...
As a game based on fast movements, the higher frames gets those extra adrenaline pumps.... And also adds to the "hell yeah" factor...😁

This looks amazing, but part of me hopes you’ll include some form of population into these urban playgrounds to make the world feel more alive. Or, to just be knocked over as you run through a crowd. With that said; it’s your game, and i will definitely buy it once it comes out.

I felt like I should've been able to go even faster? Like everytime you jump from wall to wall, grind or do any other trick your max speed increased (like momentum)?
I also love the dive roll but felt it would be awesome to be able to jump out of the roll (not only in animation like now but) actually go faster and jump wayyy further when doing so after a roll

The animation transitions are still not perfect, but its still an pre-alpha build so Hopee it will become cleaner

I really hope you change the name of this game before launch.
Games with “Project” in the name are so amateur-ish unless the “Project” is truly warranted by the game’s story or lore.
“Project Feline” is just so generic and uninteresting, it doesn’t tell me anything about the game and I’d never guess what the game or gameplay is about just by that name.

Hey raymond im a huge fan i would like to put this comment and talk about things in the game first of all the story (for the record this is just an idea) imagine this scene and also imagine this stuff about gabi's sister like imagine her as a cool technological engineer and she knows that her sister loves parkour and that's why she made this transformation to become a human hybrid to gain more strength so she devolped the FELINE SUIT as her birthday gift (also for the record when i saw the giff picture in youtube that you posted to day i was thinking about this scene when it came to my mind) try to make a hart warming scene to make more dynamic between gabi and her sister and ohh! about the prototype model that you used for the first demo of the game i want you to keep it imagine her as a evil clone i think it will be cool like imagine this the place where gabi become a human hybrid is also bad and it make clones out of people (remember this is just an idea)
Now the second thing: i want to know what happend to the wall ride? Did you get rid of it? i suggest that you keep and hear me out about this idea can you make a skill tree? where all the abilities are in it and also the wall ride too but that is my suggestion any way let's talk about the double jump or the air dash can you try to add an different animation for it?just to make it realstic instead looking like this you know what i mean? im sure you can figure it out
Now the third thing: your world looks phenomenal by far but i have a cool idea now imagine this when the player starts the game it will be a semi open world and after completing stuff in the game the game's world will be bigger and bigger basically what im talking about here is the player starts with AREA1 then the player unlocks AREA2 and so on
Now the fourth thing: combat now keep in mind i watched all of your videos and i wish i was not broke so i can help you at petreon any way what was i talking about!? oh yes combat now previously you made a kick attack as a millie attack which it looks cool but can you try adding other types of combat like punching and many types of combat because obviously we expecting cool fights but any way let's talk about guns now im not sure if you don't want them in the game but i guess they will be in the game sooner than later that if you want to now let's talk about STEALTH will you added crouch now can you make stealthy missions like imagine gabi is trying to find out where she could find any informations about her sister like imagine that small place:easy medium place:normal big place:hard now i do realize that this is a parkour game not an FPS game or even a normal third person shooter which the fifth thing im about to talk about
Now the fifth thing:balancing you really need to make a balance between the story and the race mod and other mods in the future so why don't you make all of them in the thing as a side missions for example imagine a friend of gabi wants to send some thing fast but he is late and he wants some help so if the player accept the side mission the timer will start and the player will need to go from point A to point B and try to make a fast record now let's talk about the collectables mod do you know watch dogs? there some side activity like it try to do some thing in it ( just a suggetion ) ok?
Now the sixth thing: the look of people im sure you already planned for it those are my favourite that i was thinking about from citizens to enemy now let's talk about the citizens of this city well try people wear futuristic stuff from glasses and tshirts and basically every thing make some people wear clothes like the movie tron and the place where these people wear this type of clothes you can hear some things that have that type of vibe and try to make people like gabi human hybrid imagine an entire section full of them they can jump higher and they can breath under water and many other stuff you can think of and then try to make a place that include both i think it will be very very cool! Any way let's talk about the look of the enemies let's say bad guys controls police and every thing else imagine it like that a level1 enemy is not wearing a stroung armour and he can use his fists or a police bat and a level 2 enemy wears a medium armour and can use a pistol or a knife and enemy level3 a S.W.A.T officer that have an assault rifle or an automatic pistol these are ideas that just came to my mind
Now let's talk about the seventh thing: COSTUMIZATION obviously people will want a different look for there character (Gabi) like changing clothes or even the colour of the suit you know players of these days and by the way i really want to see the heavy armour suit like the one that you drawed in the first devlog i would love to see one of them in action!
Any way those were my ideas i hope you like them :) im looking forward for your game (even when i soo broke can't buy it :( ) any way im hopping you all the luck in the game

The only thing that's buggin me a little is the music. I like the drums, they're really cool and unique, but the melody/harmony (eg. the strings) get really repetitive, even after just listening to them for this short amount of time, so I think they need some work. Everything else is looking great though :D

I don't like when indie devs try to run their game projects like commercial games with all the labels land stuff and it seems that your scope is to broad to be able to finish this by yourself with out a team of people. This is a good idea but it's to big
When the character lands on something it just feels like she snaps on to the object, I don't quite like it.

please fix the movement animation
I really feel like the animations need smoothing and the character model needs polishing cuz she looks out of place and the animations are way too jittery (I know ur going for an anime style but animes run on 45~60fps)
No anime runs in 45-60, maybe some odd high budget movie exceptions.
But animes usually run on 24fps.
