      When has advice ever leant itself towards “more is better”? Truly curious in what aspect you’ve heard this. I’ve only ever heard “less is better”.

    I was taught many years ago to season cast iron with suet and I never had a stickiness problem. I just re- seasoned a cast iron griddle with the recommended canola oil and now it is awfully sticky. I will follow your advice to clean it up so I can pass it down to my daughter. Tell me, why the switch from suet to canola oil? Thank you

    Mike, I had this problem once. I used a stainless steel scrubbie and hot water to scrub the area well, dried it off, heated it up, added some more oil and placed it back in the oven for another hour. It worked and the problem was solved. If it happens again, I will try the coarse salt method.

      Thanks for sharing your techniques with us, too, though. I use a stainless pad sometimes, and I use a chainmail scrubber, too. I know some folks frown on that, but they work just fine!

    Hello. What can I do to clean my cast iron grate tops that sit on my stove top? I've taught four ladies to cook and my husband fries everything. I occasionally put it in the dishwasher and that helps a bit but it in no way clears it off. It looks simply horrible.

    Sounds like all good advise to me. Might not be a bad idea to check pieces, not used often, to make sure
    they 1) Haven't started to rust, but 2) if stored with a lid on that it's not glued itself permanently to the Dutch Oven.
    Maybe just store the pieces separately.
    TYFS Mike

    If it's only sticky only the inside, esp if just in some spots, I've heard ... just cook with it and wear it down.
    Reheating to like 300 and wiping down those spots can work, sometimes.
    The worst I've seen is a badly restored Griswold lid I bought last year, sticky everywhere. Half the "seasoning" came off with a Dawn wash and the rest with a lye bath. Worked out fine after that.

      What about using steel wool, like SOS, or Brillo?

    • @MrCastIron
      @MrCastIron  6 місяців тому

      I heard that! Yeah, a Brillo pad will work, too. Just be sure to wash it out really good, though.
