I don't mean to discourage you, but trying to fit in chords to match a person's humming will mostly NOT work, because people are not trained singers in general. Being able to play the melody on the guitar rather.. and then forming chords or harmony around key notes in the melody is the right approach.. :) Keep going strong with your teaching, doing a good job! I wish I had more time to drop some useful lessons like this.....
