My most used ratchet is a Blackhawk, which is a Proto sub brand, 3/8" long handle flex head from my dad. It's got to be almost 40 years old. I still use it today works just fine.
Proto has always been in my top 5 tool manufacturers. OLD PROTO, That is..... everything I own by them is old and still works GREAT. For the exception of a 18" breaker bar. I was dumb and allowed a kid to borrow it to get off some frozen lug nuts. Next thing I know he brings it back snapped. Then finding out he slid a 8 ft piece of rigid pipe on it ....😠.... Then I mailed it off to STANLEY which I didn't even know was less than 50 miles from my house and within 3 days I had a brand new one on my front door. The new one is pretty, and shiny 😆 and it does what it sopossed to do. But I gotta say customer service was AMAZING!! As there other new stuff I wouldn't know, but if there built as nice as that new breaker bar I got I'm sure there still making a nice product. 👍🏼 Great video bud Merry Christmas !!
Just a shout out to wish you great things during the holidays and also forever! (Why not? ) I've learned many things from watching your vids. Perhaps you could do a vid of your storage and how you manage all these tools! I admit it, I'm a bit jealous! BTW, what kind of grease should you use to repack ratchets, ie. Snap-On? Thanks!
I like them OK, I have 11 that style, some thumbwheel, a QR ,a few of those challengers. Hmmmm. I guess I'm a Proto fanboy @ 29 total ? OOps. 30. Bought a 1/2" Big Dawg torquer NOS that isn't here yet. OK OK. My 3/8 90T is a commie version . Mac axis flexer.
Can you please check out Australian vintage sidchrome ratchet set please. A comparison between new Chinese and old Aussie models. In Australia they are worth their weight in GOLD!
I think I'm OVER my desire to get those ultra fine tooth ratchets. Everybody knows the benefits of using fine tooth ratchets. And it just isn't that important to me. I think I prefer a well made, regular, "course" tooth, ratchet from here on out. They are just bullet proof and no non-sense, easy to maintain, super strong, and cheaper. It really is marketing gimmick to try and cram a ridiculously high amount of teeth in a ratchet. Sometimes 120+. A 36-60 tooth ratchet is just fine. It will turn your bolt just as good as anything else. If it is soooo tight that you need that 120° of adjustment to turn your fastener than get a different tool. Come from a different angle. Get an extension. There's a way around it...

Mine say Challenger by Proto
Your the neighbor everyone dreams of having when they need to borrow something.
Is the CHALLENGER ratchet also 72 tooth?
What do you think about challanger 1660-3
The directional switch resembles the Chevy logo!
Great tear down of a classic !

Can't use them in the US, No Eucalyptus trees to get oil for them. A pack of firecrackers makes my boxer jump just like a roo though ! Crikey !
Happy Holidays Catus :)
These look like New Britain's design. I have a Penncraft (made by New Britain) that looks very similar externally. Are they related somehow?
I have Challenger by Proto and my buddy had New Britain
Catus ole boy... another great instructional video BUT that is a dirty ratchet....it needs cleaning
Thrift store proto ratchet ftw
