I was dying of laughter when I saw this revealed on twitter! Also this made me so excited since mario 64 is literally my favourite game of all time since I grew up with the game as a kid so seeing mario 64 in other games is awesome to see!
The amount of work this must’ve been. It goes to show the extent fans of Mario 64 have gone to dig deep into the game’s code to figure this stuff out. Being able to take assets from a Nintendo 64 rom and put them into modern titles is insanely impressive. It’s like we have a third character we can design levels for, one that plays drastically different to Classic & Modern Sonic. I’d be interested in seeing what games Mario is put into next, or which classic N64 character could come into other games in the future.
More than anything this really shows how different Mario and Sonic are level design wise. It is almost uncomparable what goes into a Mario level vs Sonic level, and you learn to appreciate how much time it takes to make so much level.

Same way the PC port of Mario 64 is possible, because Mario 64's source code was reverse-engineered, which means we can technically port Mario 64 into nearly anything now! It's been done with Minecraft, Blender, and Unity as well (and probably other things).
The fact that this isn't just a skin and the guy who made this mod ACTUALLY add mario 64 player physics is probably one signal of the future of Sonic Generations Modding, the only incovenient is that the Generations level design and gameplay doesn't fit with the Mario 64 gameplay
It's amazing that this mod is changing the gameplay. But unfortunatelly, due to level design features, gameplay doesn't fits to game well. It's kinda boring to run the whole stage at slow speed.
OK so I personally wouldn't even call it that great of a mod after playing around with it. Very impressive and fun at first, yeah, but my God it's slow af... The stages are way too big for this mod tbh. Can't even beat most of the bosses with this.
