  • Before you can sell a single candle it’s imperative you understand the legal and industry requirements for your candle labels.
The governing bodies over label requirements for candles is the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act and ASTM F2058. One is US law, the other is an industry standard.
In this episode, we’ll cover the general requirements for your label and safety coverings on a candle, including the general interpretations of how this applies and why it matters at all!

Thanks for the video! I've heard and experienced conflicting information about wax melts. Do they need warning labels as well? When it comes to the candle labels, do they need to state what type of wax I'm using? I've heard that they do, but I noticed the example label you used in your blog doesn't have the type of wax listed on it. And last question lol, is it okay for me to just have the city on the label that they are made in, or does need need to be city and state?

Sooo helpful!!! Are you able to add the address to the warning label or do they need to be separate?!?

Hi there! I have a couple questions... #1is there a label SIZE requirement for the candle so long as we have the required label information included? Is it true that the candle has to take up 40% of the surface area of the container? If so, would this mean that if we have a small skinny label on the candle jar that this 40% would be obtained be having a larger label on the package that the candle is sent in (not the shipping box)? #2 have you heard of getting a "virtual mailbox" to list on our etsy website so that we don't have to list our physical home address where we make our candles out there for everyone to see?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I was curious if candles labeled as "samples" or "testers" have different labeling requirements when being sold?

Damn. I tried and failed apparently. Tomorrow I guess I'm reprinting so many labels.

Can I put this info on my warning label? And can I use a virtual address instead of physical address? Thanks for the vids

I’m really bad at understanding things people say lol. Just to clarify, all of this information can be on the outside packaging of my candle (not shipping box) as opposed to on the candle jar itself?

As far as my personal interpretation of the FPLA rules go, yes. It can also be affixed to the candle too (think twine to a tag).

@@ArmatageCandleCompany Great video! Can the Statement of Identity be on the lid of the candle jar? Mine will have wooden lids with laser-engraved branding which includes the word "candles". Otherwise, the product package already includes the word "candles", which seems this is acceptable?
