Voices in Finance: The Power of Community Forums

- It's fascinating to observe the growing trend of community-driven technical discussions in the asset management and investment industry. #fintwit and the r/quant have been great resources and there's a clear opportunity (and demand) for more focused and collaborative conversations. From these communities have emerged professional open source projects like Toraniko from 0xfdf (who recently has gone silent). 0xfdf/Toraniko: A multi-factor equity risk model for quantitative trading.
On the social side of things, some subreddits are moderated by individuals with vested interests, such as data providers or software vendors. You see this a lot with travel agencies where they influence conversation by being mods in travel subreddits. If projects like Hindenberg Research are effective for activist investors, becoming a mod in influential subreddits could be similarly effective.
As we move forward the relationship between the social world and financial markets will only further intertwine. That's part of the reason why we decided to create a podcast in the first place.
