It didn’t start on October 7th. Hamas charter was created in response to the Israel response to occupy and refuse to implement Oslo for free independent Palestine state. Hamas only killed soldiers during October 7th, it was the IDF that got caught unprepared and what they can only do which is kill civilians. Hamas is not inside mosque, churches, schools and hospitals so Hamas is not using civilians as humans shields. It’s IDF that are using civilians as target to pressure a deal. Israel lost.

Just a correction: Hamas did not start this war on Oct. 7, the war has been ongoing since 1947, the terrorist attack on Oct. 7 was just a long line of attacks carried out by both sides, not least due to the ethnic cleansings perpetrated by the Israelis on the west bank, murders on civilians, torture, arbitrary arrests and dislocations. What we're witnessing right now is a genocide and Netanyahu has made it very clear that he will see it through regardless of wether the hostages is liberated or not.
To make a counterpoint to Tapper: Israel could end this war tomorrow if they ceased their illegal occupation of palestinian lands, allowed refugees to go back to their homes, freed their hostages in israeli prisons (some are children down to the age of 8) and accepted a twostate solution.
We've all seen these developments before and we all know that there's only one of two outcomes: 1) A two state solution where Israel ends its illegal occupation. 2) The genocide of palestinians with american acceptance and weapons.
Right now the 2nd option seems the most likely, the US will voice its objections to the staggering losses of civilians from bombs, bullets and not least famine, deprivation of water, medical and electricity supplies, and yet in the end the US will continue to be an accomplice to genocide, supplying weapons that is very clearly used indiscrimately against civilians, aidworkers and in every effort to eradicate the palestinian presence in the Gaza.
Just a friendly reminder tho: The UN can actually start a case against a president of the USA for aiding in warcrimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

Israel did not "misfire" on aid workers. It has a longstanding policy of directly targeting them. At least 196 humanitarian workers have been killed in Gaza since October, according to the United Nations. That's IDF policy, not accidental misfires.

There is no two state solution legally. It remains an aspiration. Palestine has observer status in the UN General Assembly, not full membership as a State. The Palestinian Authority has now requested it have full membership. But the USA will likely veto any such request in the Security Council because it insists the two-state solution must be negotiated between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Authority.

Mr Pannetta! How many aid workers did the US army kill in Iraq and Afghanistan? I believe it was close to a thousand. It is a very difficult war. US troops were killed in Afghanistan in vain. Many difficult things happen in a war. The workers did not cooordinate with the IDF and it is a known fact that Hamas dresses up as women as humanitarian workers, etc. They use women and children as human sheilds.
Root cause of the problem is Israeli occupation of Palestine . We need to adress it based on justice not based on power.
