The ORIGIN of Michael Jackson's MOONWALK!

  • The Backslide, also known as the Moonwalk (renamed by MJ himself) is a dance move in which the performer glides backwards suggesting forward motion. There is no certain information about the real origins of that move, it goes back to the 1930s and it evolved into the street dance culture, most specifically as a Popping move, when it was officially called the backslide.
Michael Jackson got to learn this move after watching Eklypse's performance in Soul Train, which Geron "Caszper" Canidate was part of, and he taught Michael the basics of the backslide.
There was also a dance move called the Moonwalk, which was not the same as the backslide, they taught him both moves, but he remembered the "moonwalk" word, so when he got to perform it live, he connected the idea of moonwalk to the backslide, and that's how it got renamed.
Nowadays, the Moonwalk is directly associated to Michael Jackson, as one of his signature dance moves, since he popularized it in 1983.

RED JACKSON DANCE FULL INTERVIEW WITH CASZPER:
    • NEVER BEFORE HEARD! Ho...
"...I had been practising the Moonwalk for some time, and it dawned on me in our kitchen that I would finally do the Moonwalk in public on Motown 25.
Now the Moonwalk was already out on the street by this time, but I enhanced it a little when I did it. It was born as a break-dance step, a "popping" type of thing that blacks kids had created dancing on the street corners in the ghetto.
Black people are truly innovative dancers; they create many of the new dances, pure and simple. So I said, "This is my chance to do it," and I did it.
These three kids taught it to me. They gave me the basics and I had been doing it a lot in private. I had practised it together with certain other steps.
All I was really sure of was that on the bridge to "Billie Jean" I was going to walk backward and forward at the same time, like walking on the moon".

what about boogaloo shrimp. boogaloo shrimp had been moonwalking since 79. he helped Michael Jackson perfect the moonwalk making it look longer instead of shorter strides like in 1983 look at it compared to 84 and on it looks much better. he also taught mike the circle glide and forward moonwalk and side slide. there’s even a photo of the two where Michael was in disguise with him it just sucks because i feel like people don’t give him credit for anything

These "street kids" were the popping/locking dancers who went to Soul Train and also the ones who didn't get recognition.
Geron Caszper Canidate, Jeffrey Daniel and Cooley Jaxon were the ones Michael saw on TV doing the backslide, they were street dancers who got the opportunity to be on Soul Train to show their talents and travel around the world over the years because of their pioneering and innovation on these dances!
They were not little kids, they were young kids but you understand what he meant! :D

Es Increíble Como Un Paso Como El BackSlide Que Era Simplemente deslizarse Para atrás Haya sido Transformado en una Completa Ilusión Óptica de Que Estas siendo Empujado para atrás (Caminando En La Luna) Por MJ
Porque sí,El paso existía,Pero Michael Lo reinventó,Lo Mejoró y Lo Transformó,Simplemente el mejor.

Huh, I always had assumed that Jeffery Daniel taught Michael the Moonwalk.

    • @MichaelJacksonMultiverse
      @MichaelJacksonMultiverse  2 роки тому +2

He was part of the Eklypse crew, he recluted Caszper and Cooley to dance in Soul Train, is also known Jeffrey taught many dance moves to Michael but not specifically the backslide.

I’m pretty sure he taught Michael some other moves, but I think he might’ve helped MJ perfect the moonwalk in later years? I could be wrong though. :)

@@RedJacksonDance Yes that's for sure! even the 360 slide, or the side-slide could have been the moves he taught Michael without being the backslide.
