- Explore and experiment with different mark making effects using food dye and mineral paper. This activity brings together drawing and painting techniques with a focus on play and expanding one’s knowledge around materials.
Paul Klee was a Swiss artist, born in 1879. He was an intellectual painter and teacher influenced by Cubism, Expressionism and Surrealism. Klee taught at the famous Bauhaus from 1921-1931 with fellow artist Kandinsky. Klee was an accomplished musician and this influenced his work, he often played the violin to warm up before painting in his studio.
Klee challenged boundaries in art by using symbols, hieroglyphs, poetry and language. Like Picasso, he drew inspiration from the simplicity of children’s artwork. He often experimented with materials and processes, especially the application of paint.
The art activities in this unit focus on geometry, shape, colour and line. These elements will be explored through drawing, painting and construction.
Suitable for Victorian Curriculum Levels: F - 6

Level 3-4??!! I’m 55 years old and I LOVE your lessons!
Age is just a number, we are so glad you love our lessons. We are all kids at heart.
Could we use a permanent marker like Sharpie instead of Posca?

You use some materials I have not heard of before. Though the highly cerebral Klee is not my favourite artist he is an ideal inspiration for these projects.
The mineral paper could be useful in a variety of ways but would need to be acid resistant for a professional.
is mineral paper the same as watercolour paper?
Hi Rosie, Mineral paper is a smoother surface that is slightly water resistant. Unlike water colour paper where the liquid sinks in, on mineral paper the liquid will sit on the surface until it dries.
@@ZartArtEducation - Ah thank you! That sounds like something exciting to try! I will put it on my list :)
@@ZartArtEducation - Oh thank you for that!
