Wow! Great retrospective video on Roary the Racing Car, Joachim! I was also surprised and even honored to be mentioned in your end credits at 26:58 for “Special Thanks to…”, I don’t think I really did anything special, but thank you very much anyway. You know, it also would’ve been pretty nice if DreamWorks ever did make a special and modernized reboot or revival series of Roary that is still true and faithful to the original series, and even bring Peter Kay to reprise his role as Big Chris again, and make some more race car characters from different countries all over the world. I can’t wait to see your next review and retrospective video on Pixar’s Cars and Disney Planes this summer and find out which movie really stands out from the rest! 😉👍🏎️🏁🏆⛽️🚦
I can confirm this one as well as hotwheels acceleracers and highway 35 although they aren't talking cars the series is just as good and even teachers safety in both the standard driving world and special racing techniques in the racing world
I got into Roary because of how three episodes were accessible here in the States thanks to the Season 12 TTTE DVDs. Thanks to UA-cam, I went on to watch the entire series and found it quite great.
I watched a little bit of the now-lost US dub of Roary on Sprout back in the day, too, but I didn't really get into it until early 2018. I mostly just watch the original UK dub, but I don't mind because I prefer it, anyway.
Oh yeah, Roary is such an underrated gem of a show! My favourite episode has always been 'Mr. Carburettor's Birthday Suit'. I've always loved the scene where Mr. Carburettor announces that he will wear his 'birthday suit' to a race, with Big Chris looking horrified while Roary innocently asks him what a birthday suit is, only for Carburettor to reveal that he was referring to a suit he got for his birthday. I miss when kids shows were good like this.
Up until I saw that episode, I didn't know even preschool shows could get away with slipping the occasional "adult" joke (even though it was a small, minor one in this case).
13 years old in 2023 and it almost made me lose my memory of Roary. Now my memories of Roary, Maxi, Cici, Drifter and Tin Top came back to me like a rain cloud
Again, Roary is another show I'd like to touch upon one day! I remember watching it when I was younger on Milkshake, part of me wonders why it didn't take off as well as it should have.
I absolutely love Roary the Racing Car (The UK dub to be precise)! It's a really underrated show! As for my favourite episode, it would have to be Roary Goes Missing. I really relate to Roary as there have been a few times where I got annoyed when no one would want to play with me. Plus, the ending with Roary and Big Chris is really wholesome.
I remember getting introduced to Roary the Racing Car from the two Series 12 DVDs I had at the time: Team Up with Thomas and High Speed Adventures. I don't think I ever witnessed it airing on Sprout; I remember a lot of shows from back in the day that I would watch on Sprout, but I don't believe Roary was one of them. But that was over a decade ago. Anyway, from the two episodes that I had ever watched of the series at the time, I found them very enjoyable. I like how both episodes that I did watch (Big Chris Learns to Fly and Roary Takes Off) both involved a character being stuck in the air for most of the time. I never did take notice of the familiar sounding voice Kerry Shale voicing Big Chris and Tin Top or even the similar style to Bob the Builder until years later. I was even surprised to find out that they used CGI for a few of the racing scenes because they really did a great job with having it resemble and blend in perfectly with the stop motion animation. I've only seen about a handful of the series even though I think most if not all of the episodes are posted on the official channel in full and the reason for that is because I do kind of aim to watch the US dub. I know you don't like it, and that's understandable, but honestly, really, the only kind of bad voice there for me is Tin Top's. Everyone else sounds fine; half of them are even still voiced by the same person, either with different accents or no change whatsoever. Kerry Shale honestly sold me with his Big Chris voice in Big Chris Learns to Fly. I'm sorry, but it's so funny to hear him go from what's essentially his voice for Harold in Thomas to his Henry voice once he starts screaming. I have watched a few episodes from the UK dub, though, and I do think the voices for the characters are great there, too. Can't really think of much else to talk about which might be good for my sake as I tend to make very long comments on your videos, but overall, Roary the Racing Car is a very solid show. I do wish that I was able to watch more of this show when I was younger as because of Thomas, I always had a deep fascination for media starring sentient vehicle characters and I always loved the two episodes that I had watched of the series when I was younger. It would be interesting to see this show come back again but given the lack of a global audience like you said at the end, it's probably never gonna happen. And honestly, that's might be for the best given a lot rebooted shows nowadays. At least it had a good run, and I think one of the biggest things that it will or should be known for is the Children in Need melody as Big Chris organized the entire thing, and it all happened in the town of Silver Hatch. That's quite an accomplishment when you think about it.
Forgot to mention dragga has a similar voice sounds like his Orginal uk accent while most other characters either have Brooklyn Canadian American ones!
+ the only voices I like in the UK is Plugger Flash Drifter Maxi Marsha Mr carbreutor too! The only voices I don’t like/ hate Is Roarys, Big Chris and big Christine’s and Tin tops Nicks Officer Pete, Conrod, Loada and Murray Walker because I like their us dub voices better! And I prefer Dragga over drifter and Zizzy over Cici!
I always dreamed of a Roary the Racing Car review video covered in modern day, and this actually came out better than I imagined. I had my first exposure to roary with my season 12 of Thomas DVDs, along with track stars. I sort of forgot about this show for a little while, then I rewatched some of my DVDs a few years ago and now I can't stop binge watching them on UA-cam. Agreed that this is a good show.
One thing I don't see anyone mention is that Peter Kay wasn't the only celebrity on the show. There was also Tim Whitnall, the voice of Farmer Green, Mr. Carburetor, and Plugger in the UK dub. He's famous because he was a popular live actor for Children's tv in the UK, with credits like Mike & Angelo, a show about an alien who migrated to Earth after his planet's star went supernova I think, after which, he lives with his human family, adjusting to his new home, being an occasional commercial actor, and building a working time machine. Tim Whitnall also played Elvis in a musical about his life. If you want to know more, I recommend Jack's Throwback Attack. It's a podcast where a guy interviews various legends of British Children's TV
Something you overlooked is that what some of the cars make up for in personality, they make up for in uniqueness, because CiCi is a hybrid car who runs on both oil and Solar Energy, which is what those square things are on her roof, and Drifter is electric. Not just electric like cars are now (though he certainly is that), but rather, he's almost a computer on wheels, because, as seen in that episode where Tin Top wants to get upgraded like Conrod, Drifter is seen to have a screen that can project moving holographic images
I always remembered Roary The Racing car as a kid, it’s the show I have my brother and I have always loved. And I have a drivers permit and was encouraged to drive when ever I watch anything about cars.
The redesigned Cici looks like an actual rally car, especially with that spoiler. She reminds me of Raoul ÇaRoule from Cars 2 who coincidentally is also french.
One of my favourites was Maxi's New Engine, especially the ending. I liked how despite Roary won the race (and is the main character), not everyday is his time to shine and how on that day it was Maxi's turn, which is good as it shows the world does not revolve around Roary in the universe of the show.
@@JoshProductions07You do have a good point, Roary isn't a star Billing bastard like how Hit and later Mattel would make Thomas out to be And besides, Roary did end up getting his photograph taken later on in the series like how Maxi did in this episode
My Top 5 Favorite Episodes from Roary The Racing Car. 1. Testing time for Maxi - Great Character Growth from maxi. 2. Flash the Marshal - Great Life lesson and Mr Carburettor's Mama was a great addition to the cast. 3. Nick Solves the case - Big True Crime Fan here and this episode is perfect for me. 4.Law and Order - Covid rules don't apply to my family but this episode shows how overprotective Marsha's Brother who is a police officer when it comes to safety. 5. Save our tree - Not too big on climate change but this episode is great.
Man, you’ve just evoked some old memories. Although as I child I was most interested with Thomas and Cars, I did watch Rory the Racing Car. Over time I have forgotten about it, but I do remember that Peter Kay was in it, there was an abandoned camper van who lived behind the stadium and one of the racer was called Tin Top.
Yeah I wish Thomas and Roary were friends. Just because they are models and cgi, I've saw Roary as a £1 children's ride in Sainsbury's Wandsworth when I was going to Southside
If Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Blaze and the Monster Machines and Ricky Zoom can be popular with kids, Roary definitely needs a comeback to rival them
Hi there. you go into really interesting old shows, one show I'd like to see done is a retrospective on Tractor Tom. I am concvinved that no one watched that simple and sweet childhood masterpiece.
Honestly, when i saw this video was announced, I watch the entire show again I really like the show, it has a lot of Funny moments, great characters, model work, and cgi, also some of the songs are not great but it is still a good show. I give it a 7.8/10
My first introduction to Roary The Racing Car was from a Barney bootleg disc that had 8 other Barney videos, After Barney's Top 20 Countdown: It played the us dub of the episode "Roary Cleans Up His Act" and i was hooked and like other things like The Wiggles, Thomas, Yo Gabba Gabba, The Doodlebops, Imagination Movers, Hi-5 and many others, It stuck with me up until now and I'm glad i did since I've met lots of cool people in fandoms that have the same interests and i couldn't be happier to know that other people know these kinds of things :D
In my opinion, Roary the Racing Car is an underrated masterpiece. I grew up with 2 DVD's of it and I still own them. For a show that is a Hybrid of Models and CGI, this has aged very well, not like Thomas & Friends' Season 12 Faces and Human models. All episodes has their own little concept. The score, solid, the Intro & Outro theme goes really hard. I really wish this show could've continued, and if it did, it would probably only be CGI animation by now, and I would accept that, literally. But hey, not every show has their chance of coming as far as others, kinda like TUGS ended on a decent note. Although I'm from Denmark, the voice cast is solid in both ours and the UK dub. In my opinion, Roary's voice actor in the UK dub; Maria Darling, she did great, but in Denmark, we had Caspar Phillipson, and this guy can make a really nice young voice that could fit any young character, he even was Thomas' Voice Actor from S13-24, and he was there all the way until AEG, kinda like Michael Angelis from the UK dub of TTTE from S3-16. Nice video, well done!
Maybe someday you’ll make your own talking vehicle series. If I did one, it would be about public transportation In the United States. The main two characters would be a NASCAR race car and an MBTA orange line train. Both of them wished they could see the other side of the tracks (get it?) But they would often tell each other stories and that’s where the appeal of the show would be. The stories with largely be satire/parodies of Things that actually happened in motorsport and American public transportation.
One Creative decision we see in the show Is the fact the cars actually live at Silverhatch In real life race cars are often taken to other tracks after one race in the season is over
Great video on this underrated classic. But here are some mistakes I noticed you made Keith Chapman didn't design the Bob characters, Curtis Jobling did. And according to Jobling, Chapman didn't work on the show, and all he did was come up with the idea for the show about a builder named Bob with a taking digger. And Roary did not air on Nick Jr. in the US, but it did in the UK.
Was Curtis Jobling the designer of other Chapman stop-motion shows like Fifi and the Flowertots and Roary the Racing Car, which are stylistically similar?
Being someone who also enjoys Roary, I feel as though the animation hasn’t aged the best. I don’t mean the stop-motion animation, no that aged amazingly!!! I mean the CGI animation… The CGI has aged pretty bad in my opinion, ESPECIALLY on the more human-like characters. It’s a bit of nightmare fuel for me. Other than that, the show is pretty damn good. As for the US dub of the show, I think I remember seeing a UA-cam upload of the first episode in the US Dub. And yea, it’s pretty bad. I doubt it’s still on the UA-cam platform though…
I do have faint memories of this show as a kid and it was the U.S. version. The only episode I remember from memory is when Maxy got stuck in the sand and damaged his engine and had to a slow, old , and noisy engine and when he has to race with it he ends up winning even though he was the slowest car on the track due to everyone else wrecking out.
London definetly loved Roary. I wish he made a comeback in 2027 with a new company like uh Netflix or HBO with a reboot not the ones that are worse lookin and with that comeback Roary will have a rear wing
I used to watch Roary on Sprout about over a Decade ago, and i didn’t really pay that much attention to it back then, and for some reason, I liked the show, and I remember being at a place that I don’t really remember apart from having Popcorn and being red with the White and Black Checkered Pattern a long time ago, and wanting my mom to put Roary OnDemand when we got back. Over the Years, I’ve always had this feeling about Roary that makes me feel like I’m at home, something that the other shows didn’t have, and gave me Clifford the Big Red Dog (2000 Series) and Curious George Vibes, especially around 2017, I’ve always wondered why. At one time in 2018, I was sad about BFB 13 not being out at the time, and when I watched a rant about the Show, I’ve heard the Ranter saying a Certain Vehicle being banned from Racing, as well as a Helicopter crashing into a Tree, and it made me laugh and smile that it made me feel better about myself, regardless, though, I’ve never hated the show, not even in 2015 when I was going through my PreSchool Show Hate Phase, since i kinda forgot about the show at the time. It wouldn’t be until Late-2021 and 2022 where I would discover my true feelings on this show due to my currently ongoing Sprout Phase that has been with me ever since then, I just liked watching the Episodes on my Spare Time, and the show generally felt like a Perfect Way to Relax, just Light-Hearted Stories that you just watch and move on without being stressed out, unlike something like Paper Puppets Take 2, It just felt like a Getaway from all the mayhem going on in recent years. My favorite character is actually Flash, because he makes the Show more interesting, and He’s just a Generally Entertaining Comic Relief Troublemaker without being too much of a Threat, something that other shows don’t have. Even though Stars ‘n’ Cars and Computer Calmatry aren’t my favorite episodes, I do think they should be combined in some way, and at one point, I actually thought they were the same episode, but it would be interesting to see a Roary Movie mainly revolving around Mr. Carburetor having his Temper get the best of him and Big Chris leaving SilverHatch for not being being bossed around by Mr. Carburetor but also his Music Career as well, I’ve always wanted to do something with that, maybe a Fan Fic, and i especially agree with Computer Calmatry, and I’m definitely with you on it being a Timely Story as of Today, on that it should only be used as a Tool instead of a Replacement and it should be used as a Very Important Lesson to Adults and Corporations everywhere! And I do agree that it’s probably for the best for Roary to stay obscure, because I wouldn’t want the show to have the same fate as Thomas or Bob either, especially because of how ruined they are now thanks to some greedy corporation, and I do agree that it’s for the best for the US Dub to stay Partial Lost Media as well, especially because of how Babyish and Different it was, no offense to any of the US Actors for that show, but however, the Dub doesn’t deserve any appreciation because of that, only watch the UK Dub and that’s it! So as of now overall, Roary the Racing Car is currently in my Top 5 Favorite Sprout Shows, alongside Sesame Street, Thomas & Friends, Dragon Tales, and Chloe’s Closet. Sorry if I had been talking for too long, I just had so much to say.
Would you ever consider doing an episode on Underground Ernie? I recently saw Thomas Theorist’s video on it and God knows a lot of those characters could use a redesign like with your Mighty Express and All Engines Go episodes
Another difference in the US dub is the fact that For some reason they decided to get rid of Mr Carburetor and Maxi's Italian accents in exchange for Brooklyn accents
When I was little, the Roary franchise started here with italian language and Portuguese subtitles, that was a test though, then they translated it to portuguese. I always thought Roary owner was Mario lol
Unpopular opinion: Dizzy’s CGI design looked way better. The mouth design on Dizzy’s OG model was kinda creepy. Heck, they ended up even using it for Railways of Crowetoonia.
One thing I will mention that I always thought was weird is Is literally no one watching the races in the the seats that the people who come to watch the races are meant to sit not even on days which are meant to be big races
6:02 By the way Kerry shale was on Robocar Poli for its US dub as well and if you look up camp the traveling vehicles voice actor or something it’ll say Kerry shale Im sure when I looked it up it said something like that!
I’m quite excited for the Cars ranking. Please be nice on Cars 2, I think it is genuinely good and way too overhated. The Planes films are decent too, and I had a lot of fun with Mater’s Tall Tales growing up.
5:53 Also it’s lost media due to Hit entertainment making a lack of DVDs in the us and also sprout stopped airing Roary the racing car in 2012! If hit made more DVDs then it would be mostly found media!
Hey Wak can you do research on this show called Ricky Zoom its a show about Moterbikes interested of cars and i think it will be very interesting if you can talkabout it in your next video pls not begging
I am polish and english so i sometimes watch polish TV 📺 and when i was 5 (in 2019 ) i watched a polish kids channel polsat Jim jam which was one of the polsat channels and on polsat jim jam there was a roary the racing car polish dub which i watched
However, in Wiki, it states that the drifter is based on a 1998 Dodge Viper gts r coupe The car is made in America It makes sense that You said based on an rx7 I remember in deviantart made drifter in nfs underground 2 I like the idea of an RX 7 as drifter

I watched an episode of the show once when it aired on Treehouse TV in Canada. The one episode I remember watching is "Roary Goes Missing"
Roary the racing car is pretty much my childhood i remember watching it when the time i watch some of Barney's DVD bonus features
I used to watch this show on nick jr in the UK & channel 5
Edit: I used to have a roary the racing car Merc when I was young. Now I think I lost it.
Great idea
My childhood dream was to have Thomas meet Roary
Yeah me too lol 😅 @@jacobjcb8883
One Creative decision we see in the show Is the fact the cars actually live at Silverhatch In real life race cars are often taken to other tracks after one race in the season is over
Cops on break be like: 12:24
(I’m sorry I just had to 😂 that clip was too funny)
Cool video! Now that you're done making it, could you review Octonots next? They have vehicles.
One thing for a few US episodes of Roary is that they were also put on the HiT Favorites DVDs.
Roary is voiced by Maria Darling, who also voices Luke Triton in the Professor Layton games
10:29 Did you know that when you translate the French saying in English, Cici calls Roary “honey”? Some “best friend” that!
I still remember watching this.
And even have a DVD of it.
But it was scratch and I even lost it.
Only have it's case remaining.
I love how diverse they were with where the cars originated from.
I can answer this question even before the video premieres.
Yes.
Great video on this underrated classic. But here are some mistakes I noticed you made
Keith Chapman didn't design the Bob characters, Curtis Jobling did.
@@tombit5634 No, but he did create Raa Raa the Noisy Lion, which was produced by Chapman Entertainment
I remember watching Roary the racing car on that morning milkshake channel y’know, the one with monkey
Being someone who also enjoys Roary, I feel as though the animation hasn’t aged the best.
I don’t mean the stop-motion animation, no that aged amazingly!!! I mean the CGI animation…
The CGI has aged pretty bad in my opinion, ESPECIALLY on the more human-like characters.
How? I grew up with it, I think Kerry shale fits big Chris! + Roarys us dub voice is better than his not so good British one!
Roary is quite fun. Also enjoyed it threw Thomas season 12 DVDS, sprout and UA-cam.
the most banger song in the whole series is definitely "I'm me", sang by Tin Top In Silver hatch shapes up.
I never knew there were toys and if so I want all of the die-cast cars
6:12 Dragga Zizzy Furzz Lugga and Trucksy are alright names!
Is it weird that I used to think Roary and Maxy were brothers?
After watching the show entirely, I think it's nostalgic and memorable, it's just a pitty it only lasted 2 seasons.
Also another name change was Drifter to Dragga! Sounds like Draggar almost lol!
Yeah it’s sad to see that episode lost now!
Roary The Racing Car was an amazing show
London definetly loved Roary.
Come on I love the us dub.
I remember this show airing on Sprout in the US back in the day!
Me too!
Would you ever consider doing an episode on Underground Ernie? I recently saw Thomas Theorist’s video on it and God knows a lot of those characters could use a redesign like with your Mighty Express and All Engines Go episodes
Hmmmmm….
Another difference in the US dub is the fact that For some reason they decided to get rid of Mr Carburetor and Maxi's Italian accents in exchange for Brooklyn accents
I love the Brooklyn accent better for them!
The episode where big Chris flies Hellie is my favorite
I definitely have a soft spot for Roary The Racing Car. I even made a whole Roblox game of it. I’m thinking of redoing my Roary iceberg though.
I still do still watch this show from time to time
I love "Roary the Racing Car," and this video is going to premiere on my birthday!
It's my birthday tomorrow
@@jazztrain1 Happy early birthday.
Thank you 🎉
Happy birthday
@@jazztrain1 Thank you.
Interesting thing about Roary is that the videos on the official YT channel for the show are pretty popular despite how forgotten it is
You forgot to react to tin tops voice in the US dub!
Proud that I watched this show
The US dub is my favorite!
Also don’t forget Dragga had a name change too..
6:41 he sounds like hes being sarcastic or mocking someone
Fifi and the flowertots mention
I’m quite excited for the Cars ranking. Please be nice on Cars 2, I think it is genuinely good and way too overhated. The Planes films are decent too, and I had a lot of fun with Mater’s Tall Tales growing up.
I don’t care what anyone says but "I’m me" will always be my favorite song in the show
Roary the Racing Car is an awesome show 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏎 🏎 🏁 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆
Tin tops us voice can be cool!
5:53 Also it’s lost media due to Hit entertainment making a lack of DVDs in the us and also sprout stopped airing Roary the racing car in 2012! If hit made more DVDs then it would be mostly found media!
18:15 Technically Mr Carborator fired him for saying the computer takes the fun out of fixing the cars
Roary needs more love
What I don't understand about this series was why they changed half the character's names in the US dub
But its nice to see dragga instead of drifter..
@@Buckskin1290but Dragga Doesn't suit him because he's not a funny car he's a drift car
@@williampulfer-melville8536Officer Pete is greater than pc Pete!
I remember that I liked this show when I was a kid, also I watched The Finnish dub
Hey Wak can you do research on this show called Ricky Zoom its a show about Moterbikes interested of cars and i think it will be very interesting if you can talkabout it in your next video pls not begging
Is it possible you could do a review on Super wings
Rory, the racing car is the only sentient vehicle series to have anthropomorphic animals that speak.
I am polish and english so i sometimes watch polish TV 📺 and when i was 5 (in 2019 ) i watched a polish kids channel polsat Jim jam which was one of the polsat channels and on polsat jim jam there was a roary the racing car polish dub which i watched
3:00 i burst out laughing
+ Kerry shale lives in England I think!
drifter seems to be based off a Mazda RX7 which is japanese
However, in Wiki, it states that the drifter is based on a 1998 Dodge Viper gts r coupe The car is made in America It makes sense that You said based on an rx7 I remember in deviantart made drifter in nfs underground 2 I like the idea of an RX 7 as drifter
Although I like The Pixar Cars franchise, I also like Roary as well.
I also like the Czech dub!
I'm a czech
Loved the Koko censor sound effect
Jolly good show! What’s next, boss?
I liked this
What about that green truck?
Bandai made Thomas and Friends toys, so that means Roary wasn’t the only preschool show they made toys for
I watch this show on Nick Jr and NET tv
