Omega Mart appears to be just a regular supermarket run by a corporation known as DramCorp. But it's story goes far deeper than that. I sit down with Vince Kadlubek, Founder of an art installation team known as Meow Wolf. They have been breaking the norm of the art industry this past decade with incredibly immersive storytelling seeped into their products such as, House Of Eternal Return & Omega Mart.
Follow me down one of the most exciting rabbit holes I've possibly ever come across on this channel.
    Omega Mart appreciates you.

My sister was fully not paying attention when my family made plans to go to Omega Mart so when we arrived she thought it was an actual supermarket. My girl had absolutely no observational skills considering we had to pay to get in and Area 15 is not the kind of place a normal person would expect to find a supermarket in. Still, she had no idea what was going on. So imagine her surprise when she crawls through a hole in the back of a tent, only to emerge in a freaking fever dream. In short, she had loads of fun in the place, but understood absolutely none of the story and may not have even known that there was a story to understand.

If I don't think we do, I'll say it, but I'll still offer to go and look to see if we do. When I'm back there, I'll go through the four or so spaces that the product might actually be and give it a good look through. Thanks for this.
It reminds me of the time I started a "band" in 2007 because it was fun and a great way to spend time with friends and escape a stressful job.
The band never existed and never made any music, but we had a manifesto and an entangled history.
A social experiment and a whisper farm. And it exploded into all sorts of crazy on MySpace and we got threatened by local mafia club owner.
From the pre -launch guerrilla graffiti poster campaign, "collabs" with artists/ musos/filmagraphers/ designers, secret "exclusive" gigs, secured gigs at city's most demanded venues....
It kinda a peaked out when a drunken stranger was hitting on me, humble bragging about how he'd managed to get into a secret gig to see his favourite underground band. I asked a few questions.
He told me a story about Karen O and Julian Casablancas being in the group of 23 audience members the night before, and the two key bands members Pussy Thomas and Miss Meow Mew. Everyone joining in to adapt a few of the songs. Garage percussion with found object instruments.
It was all filmed on a Super 8 camera but no-one could figure out where to get it processed.
He told me about Miss Meow... he was a result of creative energy flowing in strange unexpected ways.
He believed, and for a moment I considered telling him, challenging him, pulling the Polaroids out of my handbag.
      But I didn't.
It was too pure and punk rock.
He had just gotten a Meow tattoo, and it was perfection.
The band spilt up a week later; creative differences and an attempted homicide. The Vacuous Whores may come back if Pussy and Meow are in the same city again, who knows.

The idea that omega mart as an evolving instillation with a story that people can potentially unlock further aspects of just appeals to me so much on that D&D storyteller world builder DM way.
The setting exists but it requires players to make it come alive and set it in motion.
Meow Wolf’s idea here is absolutely brilliant in so many ways it combines so many elements of ARG with the LARPing aspects of role playing in a murder mystery dinner party or in an escape room. With the idea of a paranormal supermarket inspired art instillation with a parallel reality themed touch museum.
Its basically an arg that takes the form of a physical location. Its so hard to define because on a way this is in itself an entirely new art form. It’s an art instillation but it’s not just that.
Trying to Define it is like trying to explain a modern video game to someone in the 1700’s the best you can do is try and relate it to paintings, live theatre, and music.

I’ve seen things like this from decades ago but it would be for kids or at a museum, mostly places where you can’t play. It almost makes me tear up to see this actually existing and how fully realized it is. We all take everything incredibly serious it’s nice to see something imaginative and so fun to look at. It makes me so happy to see that independent artists are still able to produce pure art like this to this scale and be successful with it. The true thing that nobody noticed is that Omega Mart is actually Mega Art!

  • @Nugcon

This is so cool. I've knew them from videos i've watched and I thought theyre just an internet creepypasta/ alternate reality thing, but seeing Omega Mart be an actual building in real life is a whole another level. Seeing fiction being physically manifested like some sort of theme park is one of the coolest things.

oh my god it took me ages to realise the opening sequence was a sponsor segment. i just thought it was part of the overall video. absolutely brilliant.

This has to be the most effort I've ever seen put into an ARG, an entire store location made dedicated to this!
    Also 5:05 Lmao dispassionfruit.

I am SO excited to finally see some talk about Omega Mart. It's truly so creative and amazing and there's been so much put into it... I can only hope it'll still be open so one day I can visit too. Because I know I'll end up spending a pretty penny on all those cool FDA approved definitely edible products...

It was amazing. Living in Vegas can be cool and this addition made it so much better. I went with my friends and we ended up trying to communicate scrounge and solve the mystery. We were there for SIX WHOLE HOURS. The experience and visuals were transformative. The discoveries are so satisfying. The story is pretty fun but also weird and kinda creepy and super mysterious. I've heard of people not even having a clue that there is a story and thinking there's nowhere else to go other than the supermarkets. Most people don't find out the majority of its secrets or how it actually functions. I feel like there's still more I need to know. We had to leave only bc we were physically worn out.
Only complaint is that we had no idea we needed to eat and drink beforehand bc they don't allow them in the store unless you're buying from their expensive foods.

I feel like when a supermarket is called Omega Mart you just know something is wrong, like omega huh and then just add mart to the end of it lovely beautiful name, now time to cause chaos

At this point I don’t even remember how I originally found out about Omega Mart. I know I’d seen both physical ads as well as commercials, but every time I did I felt like I somehow already knew about the place, like it had always been there. Once I figured out it was by Meow Wolf, it really didn’t change anything, as I had the same experience trying to figure out how I knew about them too.

A few years ago, I went to the Meow Wolf House of Eternal Return, and that place was wild. The whole thing felt like a daze or when you're so tired that you think you're dreaming while you're awake. Freakin crazy.

Well it costs $40+ just to get in to buy anything in the first place so I hope she'd at least suspect something lol. Its totally worth the price though, you can spend all day in there.
