What Vanessa has to say about this cover - It’s great when a song with nuance like this blows up in pop culture. The lyric is so clever. Once I took it on, I realized the structure is far more unconventional than you might think as well. Plus I got to play with members of the band Deer Tick on this. They happened to be in Nashville when I was recording this song. Dennis Ryan played drums and Chris Ryan played bass. So fresh.

If you knew more about Vanessa Carlton, you'd know that it's not all about hits or mass popularity for her. She expresses what she wants, how she wants, which is what any musician worth their salt tries to achieve. Sure, "hits" are great, but if it happens, it's on her terms. I'm sure Robyn would agree 100% with this.
Also, how is she trying "to be relevant" by covering a 9 year old song? Or the other songs she covered, some of which are MUCH older?

Oh damn! I remeber "MTV Duets" when Vanessa didnt choose talanted girl who played and signed better then her))) It Was SUCH A SHAME! Thanks MTV that didnt cut it from a show. As a ex-fan I was so surpised and dissapointed...and i guess after that show Vanessa's popularity was fall down... I actually once made a mix cd for my very first boyfriend that had a couple of songs from "Rabbits on the Run" (Carousel and Dear California, I think) AND this song, the original by Robyn, and the two of us were just really young and dumb and in love and tooled around town in my brokedown Suzuki hatchback blasting that mix CD all the time, so beyond just being a GREAT cover that you absolutely killed it on, the sheer happenstance of you covering this song is marvelous and it brings back some fond memories-- sincerely, thank you for this, I love it.
(And on the off-chance you haven't figured out what your next release for the covers singles project you're doing this year is, if you want to keep recreating that mix cd, I know I'd put "Cornflake Girl" by Tori Amos on it as well and we constantly had on repeat, so that might be an option ;) thanks again)
