Hello dear friends, today's oil painting timelapse features a recently completed classical realism style portrait inspired by John Singer Sargent. In this video I try to utilize a thick grisaille underpainting in order to build up more body and texture for the primary color layer. I also try to mix natural skin tones in the style of Sargent. You’ve improved so much! The tones you used to underpaint and the way you brought in the color was like an old b+w portrait coming to life, and then the varnish (very healing to see someone doing it properly 😅) just pulled out details I hadn’t seen before, you must’ve been focusing very hard and learned so much to nail those subtleties, like the tiny highlights on the bend of the fabric or on the very edge of the browbone. It’s inspiring to see as another artist who loves detail and bright colors and contrast but wants to be able to do subtlety and muted palettes too, she looks like a real person from history
