Yeah, you're number one in the queue. Watch and see how mandolins leapfrog each other into first place. It's one of those things that never ceases to amaze me.
Love these! Love seeing all of your jigs and fixtures...so much different than the Siminoff book. Your binding process / jig is atypical, for instance. It would be fun to hear why you use that instead of the tape or rubber strap. And why you use go bars instead of violin clamps when attaching the back and soundboard. Thanks for sharing these! Really inspiring!
I'll try to tell about the string vs. tape/rubber strap and the gobar vs. violin clamps in episode 91. (Next week's video 05/07/22) Hope to see you then .
"Camera stand broke. Gotta stop, fabricate and repair." I hope everyone appreciates just how much "extra effort" goes into producing these video diary bits. Thanks for that.
I love watching the videos and can't wait until mine is in the line up to be built. In the meantime I am watching other lucky people get theirs built and am enjoying the process. Thanks for posting these!!
The instruments are looking great. Gotta love those days when you can really make headway. I think you win the prize for the most colorful assortment of wooden prop bars in your go-bar deck! Nice zoom movement on the editing.
Thanks, I'm learning technique every video. I realize it's not professional quality, but then I'm a mandolin builder, not a video editor or cameraman. I cut new prop bars every time I have a scrap board that's long enough.
Spent most of it digging holes and toting mulch and compost for my better half. We have an understanding, I help her grow things in the garden and she feeds me good healthy food (As you can see in the videos, she feeds me too much or, maybe, I just eat too much).
So good to see you again man! I sure do miss living a block from your shop and coming by, going to your bluegrass Christmas parties. Such a fun time! Believe it or not, even though I'm a banjo player, I have started tinkering with building guitars and mandolins just as a hobby and stumbled across your videos watching a Rosa String Works video on building and said Hey! Thats my buddy! Love the videos! Keep it up! Great to see you Audey
Hey Travis, good to hear from you. I don't have the Christmas parties anymore.....too much work and I'm getting too old and lazy. Stop by and visit if you're ever in the area.......
I hear ya! Everything gets to be more work the older we get. I certainly will come by to see you. I'll bring one of my projects to get the Ratliff stamp of approval ;) you take care my friend.
So cool to see my mandolin (#1) being built. Ive got the whole family watching. Thanks for a good video. Be back in a week!
