This is my favourite Wayne Shorter composition - not as well known as it should be. It has that "autumnal" sound I love so much - and again a great interpretation. The UNT One O'Clock Lab Band certainly turn out some great brass players (Austin and DJ here), though of course, they had to have the talent to begin with). I hope one day you will come to the UK and play here in London. I like the hint of "Darn That Dream" - well played, Mr. Ford!
I want to add appreciation for Guillermo Lopez , who plays really great bass, his support here to DJ is marvelous - but all six players are great to hear.
Hey Normalized Audio, I appreciate your feedback. I only have a limited number of mics and I am by no means a professional mixing engineer. I am simply doing the best I can with the few materials I have. All video and audio work is done by me. For all of the Wayne shorter videos, the mics didn’t move. However, on the most recent show, we moved one much closer to the piano. I mainly want these videos to be a simple documentation of my friends and I playing our favorite tunes.
@@austinford2339 Believe me, Austin - they are fine. - they document what great players you have among your friends. Better to be a really fine musician with few mics and gear, rather than a poor musician - you could have RCA's finest recording gear, and you would still sound inferior, but no worries on that score with the calibre of these lads. I'd love for you to play one of my favourite Lee Morgan compositions -" "Ceora" - you would do it proud, and it's another tune like this one, that doesn't get heard as often as it should be.
A compressor with high ratio will bring up that piano and bring you to levels. It doesn't have to be microphones, if you can hear it. Try it. Get that piano.
Nylon tips help the drum sound in this environment. I trade all my kingdoms for an overhead... You should sacrifice for the drummer. You are trumpet player.
