Yeah, feels pretty incomplete without it. If the time i save using the device is more than lost when i gotta clean it, its not worth it in the end. Pretty important info.

The rotary grater is amazing. Went and bought it after seeing this and it works amazing. Beyond that it is surprisingly easy to clean which was a big concern but no issues.
You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but I think it would be nice to have Dan discuss his first impression of the tools (before usage), for the obvious/shock entertainment... and also to see his expertise.
Mr. Formosa, would y'all consider also doing the left handed oil test for the more "conventional" tools as well? For example, I see you compared the push down cheese slicer to using a sharp knife, but not everyone can use a sharp knife because of different dexterity issues. That would really help if you could include them from time to time, if you can tell that a new product that you're testing was designed to make certain things easier for only a specific group of people.
That last one was just a complicated Osthyvel (Cheese slicer) with a grater stapled onto it. The basic model is a distinctly effective method to get even slices of cheese. Still weird to not see it outside of scandinavia.
I was thinking along similar lines (Dutch raised) much of the devices here either exist in Dutch households in much more effective designs or have an alternative that is better. I live in South Africa myself, but will never use a knife for cutting cheese on sandwiches. The cheese plane will always cut a cleaner slice.
"We're selling this segment of the video as an NFT for 60 million dollars" Guys, that's a steal, because it's gonna be worth 120 million in 2 weeks. That's how NFTs work!
I wish you had discussed the cleanability of the rotary grater. How does one remove the barrel for washing and how difficult is that for arthritic hands?
I'm loving these product design videos, thanks! One measure that might also be important would be "ease of cleanup" too. Whenever I think of how a kitchen gadget could make a task easier, I always have to think whether it would be worth the cleanup it requires.
One interesting thing that would be great to review in these videos, at least for some of the gadgets, is the cleanup factor. We own a similar item to the rotary cheese grater, and while it does a GREAT job grating a lot of cheese in very little time and effort, it's such a pain to clean the cheese bits in all the nooks and crannies of the mechanism, that I often just default to my box grater.
Maybe you could try spraying the "blade" part with a bit of cooking spray/some kind of neutral tasting oil before use? Not sure, but I think that could help with the cheese sticking, thus making cleanup a bit easier.
They make a hand held version of the table rotary grater that works far better with no need for suction. They use them at Olive Garden and I highly recommend getting one.
I love trying to dissect some of the truly wrongheaded gadgets that end up on here, but it is refreshing to see the rotary cheese grater and immediately be like, oh hey, that one rules.
I have the rotary grater and it is absolutely fantastic. One thing that the review didn't give the prominence it deserved is how much better it does the job. Whenever I used a box grater, the cheese has a tendency to stick together, something which has never happened with the rotary one. This makes sprinkling it over dishes, or piling on bread/toast so much easier. There are many versions of what looks an identical product, many claiming it is for veg too (made quick work of carrots - provided you put several in at a time to fill the tube) - for some reason, some suppliers say that you shouldn't grate onions in it - no idea if that is because of the onions structure, or that the onion smells and flavours are too readily absorbed. Although if it did work and you grated enough onions, a second dedicated model could be justified at the price.
I'm just so happy to see a real product review show instead of a collection of commercials. Trying to look for reviews and just getting their advertisement is frustrating
Nothing beats the OG Scandinavian cheese slicer, the osthyvel. Together with A-ha's Take On Me, it's probably the most important thing to come out of Norway.
These types of graters have been around for at least 40 years and while they weren't as amazing at first, they are insultingly easy to clean today. You can often change the blade type so you can grate parmesan, mozzarella or even make thin slices of cucumber or tomato.

We had a rotary cheese grater you had to clamp to the table for like 20 years, and we have a suction one for the past 10, weirdly it has a lever and a bigger suction, your surface has to be as smooth as possible, so if your countertop has ridges as a few wooden ones have it's actually quite useless. The advantage over the clamp is of course the ease of putting it up.

My Mother has that rotatory cheese grater. She uses it as an vegetable grater too, and there is a minor issue, the blades on the actual grater are pretty dull, no issue with cheese but with veggies its takes a lot of force to grate them. Those laser cut graters are very sharp, the combination of booth products would be so nice.
I found the left-hand oil test to be an interesting consideration, and the stuff about angled guillotine/knife blades and staggered cheese grater stuff to be interesting as well.

@14:24 this is about the same device the dutch are using for years.... minus the adjustments and the grater... those cheese cutters have the better lip to rest the cheese on like you suggested... some even have a shorter blade (the part where the grating bit is on) on the end to cut younger cheese so it would not stick to the blade when it cuts.. this is another issue you might have with cutting with the adjustable grater slicer.
They cheated with the cheese gun, they didn't include the time in the micro to heat the cheese. I think that was designed more for kids so the heating element isn't very hot. I don't see that appealing much to adults.
