    THIS STORY:
    Poor Emma Trachsel had been taken ill. And then she became unconscious. All efforts were made to revive her. But the family was unsuccessful. She was only 18 years old.
    So they laid Emma out on her back in her bed. The doctor was summoned, and soon after arriving, he determined that Emma was dead.
    But little did anyone know, that all of this time, Emma had been perfectly conscious of everything that was taking place.

    The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
    IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
    This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
    Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

    Wow, what a story. It really makes me think about others from that era that didn't live to tell their story.

    • @FacesoftheForgotten
      @FacesoftheForgotten  5 місяців тому +4

      indeed. it was not uncommon, but the families never knew either way....no one lived to tell their horrific tale of being buried alive. when they were buried, that was that. unless family had some good reason to disinter them, and then open the coffin to look to see the condition of the inside of the coffins; the fabric lining ripped away, the position of the corpse, was their hair ripped out of their head, etc.
      in later years, the wooden coffin would become crushed under the weight of the soil above, and then disintegrated. you can still see the depressions of the ground above, where the coffins gave way.
      then it all becomes one with the earth. only the rubber soles of their shoes remain in the general condition that they were, mixed among the brown stained bones.
      now this has been studied - and it is thought that around 2% of all people were buried alive, in an unconscious state...many in a coma. what is astounding, and very chilling to think about is how many of them woke up in the dark stank chamber, only to struggle and die in their own tomb?
      think about it.....

    Ron, You have truly been hitting it out of the park with your videos! This one was really phenomenal! I'm so glad that the story ended well! I'm also glad that you are keeping up the pace of making your amazing videos for us after your month of Halloween-themed videos. I felt a little down after your last video on Halloween as I thought well, we probably won't be seeing videos from you for a while. But well, not so!!! Thanks so much! I really enjoy your videos and storytelling! Bravo! 👏👍🎉

    I love this one. That poor girl was SO close to her end....one way or another.
    My great aunt used to call me a crepe hanger, as I was always being a grumpy gus. Crepe hangers used to put black crepe all over the inside and outside of the home where a death occurred. My great grandma was "laid out" in the parlor in 1928.
    Ron, thank you for invoking these memories of family history. Blessings from Michigan.

    The lighting for this video was fantastic, very eerie. But one thing always puzzled me about being buried alive. Family usually kiss or touch the hands of their loved one one last time. Couldn't people feel that a body was still warm? Or were people buried sooner after death than they are now? Anyway, thanks for the great video!

    • @michelleduprey6661
      @michelleduprey6661 10 місяців тому +5

      You would think people would have noticed the difference between a person who's still alive and a corpse. However, before embalming people were indeed buried quickly. I don't know how fast they normally did that, but changes in death do happen quickly.
      Within minutes of the heart stopping, the body will get pale (pallor mortis). The body starts to cool (algor mortis) at a steady rate of 1.5 degrees F per hour until it reaches the air temperature around it. Two to six hours after death blood pools closest to the ground (livor mortis), this is also when rigor mortis sets in with its various stages, etc.

    • @kathywrightjohnson6804
      @kathywrightjohnson6804 10 місяців тому

      I think they buried them rather quickly, as the smell of death is not pleasant. Back when they had funerals in the home. After a few days the smell would hasten burial.

    I can't imagine the horror this poor girl felt, knowing what was happening yet not being able to do anything about it. Thankfully her sister noticed something and it broke the "spell" so that she was able to move. Thank you, Ron and Deb, for this story. I'm sure it happened more than we are comfortable to think about. Great re-enactment.

    Ron....all I can say is WOW!!! The quality in this, acting, technical effects, the fonts..... and above all else, the story itself. This is actually pretty damn good compared to what Hollywood is peddling out these days. I really like what I'm seeing, it evolves and takes your storytelling to a whole 'nother level!

    Unusually great video, the actors, the black and white, your narration seemed a little echoed.
    I’ve commented before about being a retired funeral director, my father was also a funeral director. My father, in the early 1950’s bought an old established funeral home building and business. This funeral home went back into the 1800’s.
    In storage at the old funeral home, we’re cases of the old black mourning ribbons for doors, buntings, various stuff for people to use at a home wake. It was interesting to see the old furnishings and even now, remembering it. Thank you Ron

    I just don't get it. So did they ever find out what was wrong with Emma? Wasn't her body still warm to the touch? If a mirror was held under her nose, wouldn't it steam up from her breath? Or couldn't the dr. hold smelling salts under her nose to jolt her awake? I'm sure these things occasionally happened, but I'd still hope they tried a lot more times to really make certain the deceased were just that!
