I never clean the bottom bio part of the filter. Once in a couple of months maybe. The top sponge part i clean once a month in aquarium water. My rasboras realy strong fish that can handle the change in water. The other ones cant handle a great change in water. Cleaning the sponges in tapwater brings a to great water change to the tank. Often a nitrit peak is triggered.
For the bottom media, yes, but you only need to clean that 1 or 2 times a year, and rince in tank water is all it needs. The top media, is mechanical, you dont rely on bacteria here, just filter out the bits, but after cleaninig in the sink, simply rince a few times by dipping in the tank, then refit.
First, get acquainted with aquarium hobby and then set up an aquarium. Plants do not grow in sand, there must be some fertilizer, soil or a suitable substrate. Filter sponges are cleaned in aquarium water. Too strong light and not enough plants, therefore algae appear.
Cleaning with fesh tap water actually isn’t beneficial at all to the filters…it will wash away all the good bacteria that’s collected on them. Rinsing them in tank water is the best way to clean them and also shouldn’t clean them all at the same time, half one time the other half the next.. it’s like killing the cycle of the tank and starting over again as you’ve washed everything off that was beneficial to the tank.
You should rinse the filtermedia with your aquarium water, so you can save your beneficial bacteria that’s stored in your filtermedia :)
yes that is true thanks
Hi, just wondering if you have any videos on how you perform your water change?
Thanks
oke I'll make new videos
